  • I know there are bits of expanded media that say The War Chief and The Master are different people, but this is just some headcanon of mine. This is what I like to think happened a little bit off camera at the end of War Games while nobody noticed

    In Episode 9 of "The War Games" the War Chief says that there were only two of the SIDRATs with enough life in them to make the journey to Earth. One of these two was used in an attempt to rescue the War Lord from Gallifrey. Maybe the War-Chief / Master used the other one to escape after regenerating? The War Chief is just too much like the Master to not be him.

    • @Icelandic_Sand
      @Icelandic_Sand Рік тому +6

      While I do support the theory that they are one in the same, the other SIDRAT was used by the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe to return to the 1917 zone and get their TARDIS

    • @malcolmwebb9367
      @malcolmwebb9367 Рік тому +2

      The other SIDRATs still had enough life to move around the War Games zone, and perhaps even to the Aliens' home planet. So the doctor may have used one of the partially defunct SIDRAT's to get to his TARDIS. However to support your theory, the War Chief would have preferred to summon a fully operational SIDRAT, and that was the same SIDRAT the Doctor used. Or the War Chief / Master may have gone to the 1917 zone after regenerating, knowing that was where the Doctor's TARDIS was.

    Even though it's not necessarily canon, the War Chief might just be my favourite incarnation of the Master. Edward Brayshaw's performance is unhinged in a way the character was never played (or written) as after The War Games, and (if you do count him as the Master) this is the story where he feels like the biggest threat.

    The War Chief could have been the beginning of the Master trying to control the universe for the sake of his vision of order that the Roger Delgado era was based on. That afterwards he decided to call himself the Master for bigger gain.

    • @ItsButterBean1020
      @ItsButterBean1020 Рік тому +3

      I agree
      I think this fits with the Master desperately trying to make the universe better, which explicitly takes on a more sophisticated and aloof form with that of the Master in Delgado’s form.
      So my theory is this is the 11th or 10th master, with him regenerating into Delgado or even Dreyfus

    I know this has been debated and it's more generally accepted that the War Chief is separate from the Master but come on! He looks like a younger version of Delgado with the facial hair and the mannerisms wanting to become "Supreme Galactic Ruler". That's very in keeping with the Master's personality and Delgado's is on his 13th incarnation, War Chief could be considered his 12th incarnation and why he decides to pursue the Doctor afterwards for taking his last life.

    • @awesomecat458
      @awesomecat458 2 роки тому +5

      yeah i assume that war chief is his 11th incarnation, and Delgado being his 12th and pratt/beevers being their 13th, basically we did see roger Delgado regenerate in the comic doorway to hell, seperating the Delgado and Pratt/Beevers master incarnations.

    • @doughorton3635
      @doughorton3635 2 роки тому +9

      There's an interesting conversation in the novelized version of "The Deadly Assassin" where the Doctor explains that although he and the Master are about the same age, the Master used up more of his incarnations by his dangerous lifestyle and sometimes forcing a regeneration in order to change his appearance and escape his enemies. It's interesting to think that the Master has a whole other life outside of his encounters with the Doctor and that maybe the Master has other major enemies out there always trying to stop him.

      The Doctor didn't recognise Derek Jacobi's Master

    Actually the security guards drop the War Chief's body on the platform on the left of the landing bay just as Arturo Villa comes in shooting his revolvers. You can see his feet at 1:48 of the above clip. I watched episode 9 carefully, and the War Chief's feet can be seen even after the Doctor, Jamie, Zoe and Carstairs have departed in the SIDRAT. Of course it's possible the War Chief was "playing possum", or just unconscious while his body was starting to regenerate. But then it's difficult to see how he could have escaped the Time Lords.

      I’m pretty sure there’s a moment where the war chief says he explicitly does recognize The Doctor, saying something along the lines of “you changed your face since you left but it’s still you.” It’s The Doctor who doesn’t recognize The War Chief, which I reconcile by just saying he never introduced himself as The Master, and The Doctor had never seen this incarnation

    • @themoxcast
      @themoxcast 3 роки тому +12

      They recognise each other. The War Chief states it directly and the Doctor runs as soon as he sees the War Chief. It's ambiguous enough that the War Chief could easily be the Master if a writer chose to make it that way.
