This took 6 weeks to chart in UK, it finally did it when ABBA’s record company hired a limousine and had employees dress as a wedding party and drive around London blaring the song out: simpler times! This was an attempted comeback a year after Waterloo success and after So Long failed to chart, I Do x5 wasn’t really that commercial. Melody Maker (music magazine.) said; ‘this song is so bad, it hurts.’
Was a huge hit in Europe and Australia, and top 20 in USA. It kinda found its home in the Mamma Mia! Movie and theatre show. It’s probably not a surprise to hear that it’s a popular wedding song, especially on radio request shows for the happy day.

NO! It found it's Home in "Muriel's Wedding" when she wanted it played when she came down the aisle...that's when the song first came back into the mainstream, not to hate on the Mamma Mia movies, but they tend to take a lot of credit away from "Muriel's Wedding" and "Priscilla: Queen of the Desert"

Agnetha was influenced by German schlager (and she was kind of popular in Tyskland/Germany). The others not so much though. Some Abba songs sure sound a little schlager, but this song is more along the lines of how a typically Swedish "dans-band" would play to dance around the 1970s.

    dearest Marissa and Tyler,
so nice to see you again with more ABBA
After the extraordinary success with "Waterloo" it took a long time for ABBA to ratify this success and demonstrate that the victory at Eurovision was not going to be a lucky and isolated success.
    "I do I do I do I do I do" (1975)
was one of the songs that they tried
this song is a beautiful melody, I think it reminds of the 50s, the voices and harmonies of the girls, the blonde Agnetha & and the brunette Frida are perfect, is the magic of the 'third voice'...the song leaves a happy feeling, is a beautiful lovesong
in UK it did not enter the Top 30
but the surprise was in Australia,
which gave them their first #1 there (3 weeks)
    follow by "Mamma Mía" & "S.O.S "
with two another #1 consecutives (all three #1 in a row, in 14 consecutives weeks)
in U.K. when seeing that event they published "S.O.S." and picks #6
and in U.S. they first edited "S.O.S." and reached #15 on Billboard, follow by "I do I do I do I do I do" with another #15
these is because ABBA have different company records in each countries, and each company decide wich song was released
that's why the chronology was different:
    Europe: I do (x5)/ S.O.S./ Mamma Mía
    U.S.: S.O.S./ I do (x5)/ Mamma Mía
    Australia: I do (x5)/ Mamma Mía/ S.O.S.
and then the ABBA's series of global successes will already be continuous between 1975/1982
in April 1975 ABBA filmed four videos in only two days to promote their songs and music all over the world
    these four videos was:
    S.O.S. (recorded in August 1974)
    Mamma Mía
    I do I do I do I do I do
Bang a Boomerang (the only that wasn't single)
That is why my next suggestion could be:
"So long" (1974) that have live performance in Top of the Pops at UK , or energetic performance in a TV special "Made in Sweden" 1976
It's one of the great songs that haven't success as a single after "Waterloo"
See you later in next videos
I wish You a great week
    Best regards from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina 🇦🇷
    South America

If you loved IDIDIDIDID, if you haven't already seen it, I strongly recommend you watch - and maybe do a reaction to, if you are into doing movie reactions - a brilliant little Aussie movie called Muriel's Wedding. It's about a possibly neurodivergent social misfit, a young woman who comforts herself by listening to the music of Abba and dreaming of her future wedding day, even though she's never actually had a date. Great story and script - you'll find yourself quoting some of the lines forever after. Toni Collette and Rachel Griffiths star in it and the whole cast give memorable performances. You'll laugh, you'll cry...

The 'picnic' version of 'I do, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do' - 'Made in Sweden for Export' - tells a little story. Agnetha and Frida, both to camera, serenade you - tacitly serenading Benny and Bjorn - in a flower meadow in the summer sunshine. Beautiful. There's also a silly bit with the saxophone instrumental as there is a group of saxophonists all standing, rhythmically swaying to-and-fro and doing their little piece in the middle of the meadow.

It was a big flop in the UK and I guess that's the reason why... but it was a big hit in continental Europe and hit it big time in Australia, which lead to the ABBA craze down under.. actually my mum's favorite... it had some nostalgic schlager vibes and that's why it was ignored in the UK.... in the US it was released only after SOS and Mamma Mia in 1976 and was a top20 hit... it is prominently featured in the Mamma Mia musical as the "wedding" song and got it's place... but it's not on ABBA Gold...

Thanks for the reaction, this is one of muy favorites songs from Abba, please react to Dum Dum Diddle, ua-cam.com/video/JQyjeZvn3HQ/v-deo.html , it's a very nice song, similar to Bang Boomerang, but calmer and more relaxing, the main voice Here is Frida, although we know that the beautiful Agnetha is the main voice in most of the ABBA songs.

Check out ABBAs 1st recorded single " Hej gamle man from 1970. It's in Swedish before they learned English. I don't think today's mainstream music lovers possess the capacity to enjoy a song that is sung in a foreign language. But I think you two guys can't appreciate it.

A lot of influences from the swedish "Dance music for grown ups " that was popular in the seventies and on to the nineties in Sweden with a lot of Saxophones in it.

When your done with your A8BA journey you should start the solo careers of Agnetha & Frida. And Marissa would probably love Benny Andersson’s solo work Nov 89 .. etc..And the entire Musical Chess written by Benny, Bjorn And Tim Rice.

It's awesome to watch a reaction like yours. For us that have heard this song over the decades, we may take it for granted, but it is indeed a great one. If you haven't yet, go see the Mamma Mia musical (or DVD) and report back to us your review.

"Gonna Sing You My Lovesong" is more of a hidden lovesong gem by ABBA than this one. 😍

Not really hidden gem at time. I was in high school at this time, in US a long lag after Waterloo was big, then SOS was finally another hit. Then very soon Mama Mia and I Do ..... the last two being very big at almost same time - would hear just minutes apart on radio.

That was unfortunately not one of ABBA's greatest selling hits. I love it though. It's nice to see youngsters enjoying this great old music. Half the kids in the UK lol at you gone out, and say.... Who?? When you mention the music we listened to

I reckon there's very few ABBA songs that you guys would like more than I do, but this would have to be one of them .. I do enjoy it, but for me it's a long way down on my ABBA rankings list .. It's smooth and sweet, but just doesn't get me that excited to hear it .. But I understand that millions will disagree, and I'm very happy to see that you've found another ABBA song you love .. Cheers, Wayne
