Thank you both for sharing this, I love your channel ! Agnetha's 'Soldiers' is a critique of militarism. If you want a great story telling song from this same album about being on the edge of death, with one of the best singing voices on display you'll hear. Try Like an angel passing through my room. Frida singing :))
It was a good choice to have Agnetha be the lead for this song, since she has the more vulnerable tone. It seems to basically be a warning not to put political decisions in the hands of the military. I think a form of military conscription/national service was around when Bjorn & Benny were young, so they have that experience too.
"Hey Hey Helen" is one of my very favourite ABBA songs ! .. I also love "Tiger", particularly in the live video performance from their Australian tour .. Great suggestions.

Y'all should really react to the Medley that ABBA put out as a B-side to "Summer Night City" containing: "Pick A Bale of Cotton", "On Top of Old Smokey", and "Midnight Special" ..I really think you guys will love the production value they put into it, originally recorded in 1975, they shelved it until 1978; when they remastered it and polished it up some and released it as the B-side to "Summer Night City", which at the time was a stand alone single that wasn't on any album (until it was included on "Greatest Hits Vol.2") so at that time you could only get both if you had the single, and the medley didn't surface on any album until it was on 1994's "Thank You For The Music" box set.
It's my most favourite ABBA song. It was so addictive back in the 90s when I first listened to it. I had to repeat it over and over again. I still love it.😊
Please do "Like an angel passing through my room", "Should i laugh or cry" , "Hey hey helen" & "Crazy world" next!. Just love these Abba reactions so so much.
This song is a waltz actually but the Drummer was requested to accentuate the second tact, so that it doesn't sound like a waltz... I love this song because they have produced it in a way that you can feel the cold and marching soldiers.
You realize a small common theme with "The Piper"? "We're following a strange melody... we're following the piper..." = "If the bugler starts to play, we too must dance..." Both carrying the theme of being lured into something, of an irresistible influence, that might lead to something very bad. In the story of the rat catcher, the citizens suffered the loss of their children, due to their cheating and greed. here, the bugler (signal trumpeter of the military) calls for war and destruction, due to the greed of warmongers. In parts of the bridges in this song, they definitively quote the guitar-play of "Eagle"
Love this one! In this song, "Soldiers" are warmongers who we can't ignore. Once they start a fight, it affects all of us. The term can also be a metaphor for leaders like Putin, who lead us down the wrong path. ...soldiers write the songs that soldiers sing, the songs that you and I don't sing....let's not look the other way, taking a chance...'cause when the bugler starts to play, we too must dance. I think you'd like a couple of early bangers "Bang-A-Boomerang" from ABBA's 3rd album in 1975 (also had Mamma Mia, So Long, SOS, and I've Been Waiting For You on it. Also "Tiger" from Arrival, their 4th album. And "Hole In Your Soul" if you haven't listened to it already.
I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do went to #1 in Australia and was also well in the U.S., peaking at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 (back then, a top 40 hit was a much bigger deal it meant far more exposure with fewer niche stations).
Thank you for exploring and reviewing many of ABBAs truly great songs and production values. Now you need to take a side trip to learn what a truly great singer Agnetha (Anni-yetta) was and is....listening to her marvelous solo albums. Some songs to listen to could include "Man" which wrote entirely..."Wrap Your Arms Around Me"..."I Was a Flower"...."Heat is On" Special.
I always get winter war or war between the Soviet Union and Finland. Even though it is not about that. Especially lines "Is it true that the beast is waking" and "Is it only a storm approaching? All that thunder and the blinding light In the winter night". Also some other lines fit so well. Great reaction as always.
There were a couple songs recorded during this session that didn't make it to the album, but are released and are just as good. Casandra and Should I Laugh Or Cry. Both should have been included on the released album.
Soldiers march to their own beat, sing their kind of songs because they live outside the mainstream of society. Because of what they have to do. Many soldiers would understand this.
Thank you guys to this beautiful song, witch is not that popular but also amazing in their harmonies and catchy anyway. I really love it your reaction especially in those moments where emotions came out like my goose skin at the same time. Abba is the best pop I had listened to during decades and maybe always. I can't imagine that there is something comparable in harmonies and voices, angel like.
This was one of the best (ABBA) reactions that I’ve seen with you. You both seem to ”know” music, in this case especially Marissa. Is she a musician? Greetings from ABBAs Sweden!
A warning about war if we don't all actively pay attention and actively pursue peace if we don't do that we too must dance along with those happy, strong looking soldiers to the grim realities of war. Love the song :)) Also Tyler I really think the piper is one that grows with every listen if you ever get the chance to try it again a few times. Plus talking about the dangers of authoritarian leaders and crowds following them is interesting. For an energetic sugar hit I reccomend kisses of fire by ABBA with Agnetha stealing all your love in her performance.
From the same era, but not included in the album: Should I Laugh or Cry, B-side of One of Us (1981). Painful, frustrated and rather angry sounding lead vocals by Frida. Both the verses and the chorus are amazing, though it could be argued that they don't necessarily fit togehter. However, the verses are so good, it's still a masterpiece.
Love that you loved Soldiers - can't wait for the aftershow because the song has several possible meanings - my take on it is that it's about the question : if there's a military to act as a deterrent (keeping/defending the peace) - just by them being there doesn't this eventually leads to war even if there's only an intention to keep the 🕊️ peace ? I would like to suggest a couple of songs from the Waterloo album because you haven't done a lot of music from that - Gonna Sing You My Love Song + What About Livingstone (both a bit of a change from the last few ABBA songs you've reacted to). Watch Out - also from the Waterloo album -is fantastic as well.
Would love a video reaction next and although Tyler already covered Hole In Your Soul you both should do the double performance of Does Your Mother Know and Hole In Your Soul live at Wembley, amazing.
Actually, only their first 2 albums 1973/74 were less commercial.Visitors was still a No1 album and a good seller but less massive than its previous (Super Trouper)
@@alexioverdo5225 It was certainly commercially more successful, but that’s not what I meant…The first albums are bubble-gummy in a way that to me makes their sound more commercial of that age, while The Visitors- even if it came in a time when synths were popular- obviously is more experimental. I like the first two albums too though; they were the first studioalbums I had with them, and I kind of like that they hadn’t really found their full sound yet! But it’s not so weird that The Visitors sold more despite being less commercial; they had just recently for some time outsold every other group in music history.

I would be mad if you wouldn't react to Should I Laugh Or Cry. 😤 But there are also a lot of other songs on every album (except ABBA - The Album where you have already done all songs) which you should react to (including bonus tracks): The Visitors: Head Over Heels, Like An Angel Passing Through My Room, Should I Laugh Or Cry Super Trouper: Me And I, Happy New Year, The Way Old Friends Do, Elaine Voulez-Vous: I Have A Dream, The King Has Lost His Crown, Lovers (Live A Little Longer), Kisses Of Fire, Lovelight Arrival: Tiger, Arrival ABBA: Hey Hey Helen, Bang-A-Boomerang, I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do, Rock Me, Intermezzo No. 1 Waterloo: Honey Honey, Watch Out, Gonna Sing You My Lovesong Ring Ring: Ring Ring, Disillusion, He Is Your Brother These are only my suggestions. I also like the most of the songs I haven't named here but I think to the songs above you should react in every case. Of course you can also react to the others. 😆

Abba's drummer Per Lindvall came up with the drum beat. This was to move the song away from sounding to waltzy with its 3/4 time signature. Now, you love The Visitors album but you must listen to Two For The Price of One from the same album. It'll shatter your hopes that every song on the album is great. It's terrible. After that do the official clip from Bang-A-Boomerang for a bit of melodic fun.
I’ve never understod the dislike of that song! Sure, it’s s little naughty, but that’s a tradition in folk music from many places around the world. The music is great! Much better than Slipping through my fingers; great lyris but boring song…
@@christofferlahrin5149 You know Price is struggling when they have to overlay a counter melody to the chorus and the stupid circus music at the end which makes no sense whatsoever to the song. Bjorn's altered vocals are also lame. I'm not a fan of Head over heels either. Awful synth piano and screeching vocals from the girls.
@@christofferlahrin5149 Might seem 'hunouristically naughty' but hides a sad,sad story of a desperately lonely man.Lyrics to the demo were even harder and even more sad.
"Is it true that the beast is waking"...so goddamned prophetic. The beast is the bear or Russia, you see the war in Ukraine and this song encapsulated the apprehension of the early 80s in Europe as we really thought nuclear war would break out. Love your reactions. The music you guys are reacting to is aeons ahead of the dreck that attempts to pass for music today. 40 years on you kids and many others are discovering them. Somehow I think Beyonce, Bieber, Swift and Perry not to mention that awful rap will have been condemned to be forgotten. Check out Agnetha's solo hit when she was 16 "I was so in love"/
yeah, I like the rhythm, the drums and guitar work, and especially the vocals. it's ironic that Abba is Swedish, and Sweden was a neutral country in the Cold War (despite the Soviets intruding into their territory, by sea and air). compared to this patriotic-sounding song, contrast the West German Nena and 99 Luftballons which took a definitely opposed view to "we too must dance" 🤨 anyway, this is one of the uptempo songs on The Visitors. hard to imagine that just a year before, they were confidently singing "Who are you to talk about impending doom?" and now it's "In the grip of this cold December, you and I have reason to remember." nothing happened between 1980 and 1981 to warrant this dread and fear. "Keep on rockin', baby, 'til the night is gone..."

@@martinbatallan3734 Menneke tells nonsense again or he is deaf, because in the chorus there are of course also vocals from Frida. There is no ABBA song sung by Agnetha alone. But I wouldn't go so far to say that the best part of this song is sung by Frida. I would say the song comes alive when Frida joins Agnetha. 😊
Meaning, Easy. Bjorn and Benny realized if WW3 kicked off, Sweden, though at the time Neutral, would still be drawn into it. It is a warning to complacent people. With Russia doing what it's doing now, Sweden Finally gave up Neutrality and joined NATO.

Please do "Like an angel passing through my room", "Should i laugh or cry" , "Hey hey helen" & "Crazy world" next!. Just love these Abba reactions so so much.
Abba is very good with harmonies, rhythm & musicality in general.
This song gets better every time I hear it.
This song is a waltz actually but the Drummer was requested to accentuate the second tact, so that it doesn't sound like a waltz...
I love this song because they have produced it in a way that you can feel the cold and marching soldiers.
Enjoyed your enthusiasm with this song, please Kisses Of Fire next..
YEAH!The 'Abba in Swizerland' video!!!
One of the best songs from ABBA's later, "darker" period.
I love this album ❤
You realize a small common theme with "The Piper"?
"We're following a strange melody... we're following the piper..." = "If the bugler starts to play, we too must dance..."
Both carrying the theme of being lured into something, of an irresistible influence, that might lead to something very bad.
True.Great lyrical connection the one you noted.
I always thought these songs has a similar vibe and now it makes even more sense! My mind is blown.
So true, those tracks are linked by a common theme.
Great Scandi drummer Per Lindval on drums to this deep cut from Abba's seductive darkest album.
Really clever song, it's actually a waltz, but you'd never know it!
'Soldiers's is one of ABBA's best songs from their 1981 album 'The Visitors' and the song was released as the B-Side to 'When All Is Said And Done'.
Soldiers and When All Is Said And Done are absolutely awesome!
This song reminds me of Fernando. And only thought about it till now. Have all way's loved the track. Nice work! Ya'll rock.
I love when you talk about chord structure. It’s such an important element to a great song.
Tyler alone did before "Hole in your soul"
Ooh & love the track soldiers & and the Visitors.... love on the run ...tee-🤪 -hee .
'Elaine' should be next, and then 'Gonna Sing You My Love Song'.
excellent choices
I've got a nice one for you that was released as a single but you haven't had yet: I do I do I do I do (1975 I think).
I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do went to #1 in Australia and was also well in the U.S., peaking at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100 (back then, a top 40 hit was a much bigger deal it meant far more exposure with fewer niche stations).
@@nickchristoforou7850 USA N015!That's a real labour for the rock USA market for a foreign act with a schlager tune at the time!
si se olvidaron de esta canción increible
Thank you for exploring and reviewing many of ABBAs truly great songs and production values. Now you need to take a side trip to learn what a truly great singer Agnetha (Anni-yetta) was and is....listening to her marvelous solo albums. Some songs to listen to could include "Man" which wrote entirely..."Wrap Your Arms Around Me"..."I Was a Flower"...."Heat is On" Special.
'I was a flower"!wow what a song!
Let's not forget the powerful 'The Last time".
Agnetha is pronounced Ung-NE-ta, no y sound in it at all!
I always get winter war or war between the Soviet Union and Finland. Even though it is not about that. Especially lines "Is it true that the beast is waking" and "Is it only a storm approaching?
All that thunder and the blinding light
In the winter night". Also some other lines fit so well. Great reaction as always.
That is very much my take on it too.
Somehow this song is relevant specially today!
There were a couple songs recorded during this session that didn't make it to the album, but are released and are just as good. Casandra and Should I Laugh Or Cry. Both should have been included on the released album.
PLEASE, DO MORE "THE VISITORS" SONGS!
One of my top favorites toooo
Dream World. I think this is the one of underrated songs.
Please, please, please react to BANG-A-BOOMERANG! It’s awesome, brilliant, Frida & Agnetha sing together on lead vocals. Brilliant reactions guys 🤩🤩
The lyrics "if the bugle starts to play, we to must dance" are quite powerful 😎
The BEST song in the visitors álbum
This was one of the best (ABBA) reactions that I’ve seen with you. You both seem to ”know” music, in this case especially Marissa. Is she a musician? Greetings from ABBAs Sweden!
Yes, Tyler and I are both musicians! We played percussion in band during high school. I also play guitar and Tyler sings/raps.
This song is so relevant at the moment in Europe..with the ukraine 🇺🇦 / Russia situation . A war approaching....
The tv live' Switzerland video that's dualed with' Lovers' plz!Just fab! That Camera-man must have fallen in love with Agnetha's first 40 secs. .
TYLER will love the Swiss video. Those first seconds of Agnetha's attitude/performance to the camera is like a platonic/spiritual Love action.
ABBA forever
This is one of the Songs that help me to remember of the Feeling of all my Desire at the Time I was a young Guy 👍
Would love a video reaction next and although Tyler already covered Hole In Your Soul you both should do the double performance of Does Your Mother Know and Hole In Your Soul live at Wembley, amazing.
A battle getting closer ! .
Also, The Visitors is often and by many considered to be their both least commercial and best album!
@@christofferlahrin5149 I saw what you meant.I just made a specification in order to prevent some others( who haven't lived that era real time) and might misunderstood your well intented comment.I do agree with you .
You should try "Like an Angel Passing Through My Room".
Agnetha Faltskog at her very best.
ABBASOLUTLY 🌈💚😇💕💕
Future reaction suggestions: Upbeat “bangers”: Tiger, Kisses of Fire, Elaine.
Contemplative/Midtempo::
Should I Laugh or Cry, Lovelight
Oddities: Watch Out, Intermezzo #1
Embarrassments not worth bothering: Two for the Price of One, Head over Heels
The best song on this album is When All Is Said And Done.
I agree
You’ve done about 68 songs counting Tyler’s solo review of Voyage ~ Which you and Marissa should revisit. So you have about 32 A8BA songs left.
This was just an estimate I might go through it later if I have time.
They should also revisit THAT'S ME(Marissa was off)and a couple of some good ones Tyler did without her.
@@christianoazzuro6711 agreed they should do all the songs Tyler did solo.. sorry T love ya but.. it’s better together
They should definitely revisit Slipping Through My Fingers together too
She wrote entirely......o-o-o-ps. While I'm at it "Shame", and "I Won't Let You Go".......so many!
Try 'Honey,honey'/'Bang -a - boomerang' from their early 'shiny' bangers. You can see their remarkable musical 'progression'.
I would be mad if you wouldn't react to Should I Laugh Or Cry. 😤 But there are also a lot of other songs on every album (except ABBA - The Album where you have already done all songs) which you should react to (including bonus tracks):
The Visitors: Head Over Heels, Like An Angel Passing Through My Room, Should I Laugh Or Cry
Super Trouper: Me And I, Happy New Year, The Way Old Friends Do, Elaine
Voulez-Vous: I Have A Dream, The King Has Lost His Crown, Lovers (Live A Little Longer), Kisses Of Fire, Lovelight
Arrival: Tiger, Arrival
ABBA: Hey Hey Helen, Bang-A-Boomerang, I Do I Do I Do I Do I Do, Rock Me, Intermezzo No. 1
Waterloo: Honey Honey, Watch Out, Gonna Sing You My Lovesong
Ring Ring: Ring Ring, Disillusion, He Is Your Brother
These are only my suggestions. I also like the most of the songs I haven't named here but I think to the songs above you should react in every case. Of course you can also react to the others. 😆
They gotta do live stuff.Unfortunately the great 'Abba videos' channel is 'vanished' so they should try 'Abba the movie' for good!
@@alexioverdo5225 It's so sad, that the "ABBA videos" channel is gone. Now they can't watch the live version of Why Did It Have To Be Me and a lot of other great live stuff anymore... 😢 Maybe there are some other channels which have these videos but "ABBA videos" had the best quality.
@@Lisa-M Yeah i'm pissed off,it's an important loss and i don't know the reason. Some reactors have save material while reacting to its video clips but it's like a 'dream within a dream'.Hope it surface up again.
@@alexioverdo5225 The reason would be very interesting to know.
Is it true that the beast is waking, stiiring in his restless sleep tonight/in the pale moonlight'...
Yes now its true.
Well I love 'Two For The Price Of One.' I wouldn't say it was 'amazing' but I wouldn't say it was 'terrible either.
@@The_Jupiter2_Mission 'circus music' at the end hints a festive event.A marriage or smth and happy ever after.
Again, a very few instances where ABBA dabbled in politics. This about the impending cold war of the early 80s

Now do ”My love, my life!
Already done.
It’s in 3/4 time, which is unusual for ABBA.
Ahh was waiting for your reaction when that chorus hits you, I remember it still myself. Marissa’s tease about not meeting her expectations and Tyler wondering what she is on about! 😂
It’s nice seeing you marching through ABBA’s songs, there are a couple I wouldn’t bother with! I Saw It In The Mirror… constantly voted the worst ABBA song in fan polls. If you review it I may have to watch it with the sound muted until you finish. I’m not sure if you have reviewed That’s Me, it’s a fun song, I Have A Dream is also, I particularly like the Spanish version of that. I know that Tyler reviewed Voyage, but has Marissa heard the new stuff?
All the best anyhow.
Tyler has already reacted to 'Thats me'. Like you, I wish Marissa was always there to hear and share. [No offence intended Tyler!]. 😀
I think you haven't done Head Over Heels yet, also from The Visitors. Very different in a way... and I know you pay attention to the storytelling and the harmonies... well, you're in for a treat songwriting wise. Give it a go...
Hi,
suggest you listen to ABBA's I have a dream next time.
Another great Agnetha lead!
La mejor parte de la canción la canta frida
@@martinbatallan3734 no backing vocals
@@martinbatallan3734 Menneke tells nonsense again or he is deaf, because in the chorus there are of course also vocals from Frida. There is no ABBA song sung by Agnetha alone. But I wouldn't go so far to say that the best part of this song is sung by Frida. I would say the song comes alive when Frida joins Agnetha. 😊
Anni-Frid is the best!!!
I remember Bjorn saying it's an anti war song
Meaning, Easy. Bjorn and Benny realized if WW3 kicked off, Sweden, though at the time Neutral, would still be drawn into it. It is a warning to complacent people. With Russia doing what it's doing now, Sweden Finally gave up Neutrality and joined NATO.
For me, The Visitors is a masterpiece, with the exception of Two for the Price of One, which I really don't like. It has B-side written all over it. Cassandra or Should I Laugh or Cry would have made a much better choice for the album.
