Another great review my friend. Glad you’re enjoying the R8.
So this is similar to SMG for e46 m3. Good to know
Those early computerized clutch transmissions need to as you mentioned as a manual without a clutch pedal...thats a cool ride.
wonderful explanation brother i feel the same way i just bought my 2012 R8 v10 5.2l spyder i have same experience but mine click on third gear but i really enjoying it now i kind of relies it is manual transmission but shift with electric motor cause the engine has so much power that with regular automatic fiber gear will be warn out quick
Still a very cool car..it's on my wish list
My concern is how many miles is rated at pure sports driving?
because a similar f430 keeps the clutch for 10-15k miles tops.
Yep, welcome to the R-Tronic. But sounds like you learned the secret to making it smooth. This past Monday, I got an "XLR Racechip throttle control" from Germany. Best $240 I spent on the R8, and it arrived in three days. Do research into "Throttle boxes"; there are a handful of companies, they all do basically the same thing, but it comes down to asthetics. The really make a difference in the low-end throttle response and the R-Tronic becomes more fun to drive. Nice channel too, keep the videos coming! I just came across it today.
Daniel Gorman hey man I have a 2009 rt v8
Can you explain more about the xlr tbc?
It is delivered via DHL from Germany in a few days and comes with installation instructions. A couple of torx screws holding the throttle pedal in place, unclip the factory harness and install the unit. It is plug and play. The hardest thing is to line up the holes to remount the throttle pedal. The controller is a nice looking dial and controls the electronic voltage to the ECU. So, if you turn the dial down and press on the gas, the car is very unresponsive...which is where I set it when I valet. Turn the dial up and it send higher voltage to the ECU and has more low end throttle response but then flattens out. No one knows why Audi just didn't design the car with the response that the XLR offers.
@@dgcompany Thanx man I just got an R8 yesterday, will have it delivered on Monday. I thought it was a little different but not horrible if you think like a regular manual, but if it can go faster im there. Went to the website and the R8 isn't listed.
@@skywalk3x Congrats! Tomorrow is almost here! Yes, I checked their website and don't see the R8...I think that is what I found when I bought mine but I found mine on ebay. I just checked ebay and found one in the US, but it is $269 and has the smart phone app. The one I have doesn't have the phone app option and paid $240. Also, if you haven't heard about the R8Talk.com forum; it's a great place for an R8 owner. Good luck!
@@dgcompany Thanks for all this awesome info Daniel. I am going to look into it!
Thanks for posting. Just went to see my first R8 in WI and put a deposit down. Had the same experience of being shocked by the drunken monkey shifts.
Great insight and will give me something to work on. :)

So put it on sport mode all the time ?
have you tired a TCU tune?
does it drop you into N when you pull both paddles at the same time? Does it drop you into N when you are sitting at a light for longer than 30 seconds? Only reason i ask is because it does that in the aventador and I really enjoyed that transmission.
Yes if you sit at a light after 10 sec will go into manual
what year is this car
Your explanation sounds similar to bmw smg.
Would upgrading the TCU make it better?
Yes Vf engineering tcu
Lifting off the gas in auto mode is what the automaker suggests? Meh... factory reflash helps ? Fyi my 08 had a hydraulic pump fail, so warranty covered a new unit.. $30k
s tronic is more advanced than r tronic right?
Ally Chek that is correct. The S tropic is the updated dual clutch over the old single clutch r tonic.
4.2 R8s with 6MT still above $50K meanwhile I'm looking at a perfect, low mileage 4.2 RS4 for under $28K... All of that said, who just settles for a single clutch sequential trans?
Nobody
Just seen your video, I see you had the C6. Man I almost brought a R8 but the C7 auto 8 transmission felt so much better and is a rocket. I was into the R8 4.2 but, I just couldn’t get over how the C7 power band was plus, I just put headers and CAI and I’m over 500hp and have a 11sec 1/4mile car. Good luck on the R8 man.
thanks for the support! I completely feel you on the lack of power you get at the price point, especially when stacked against a corvette (king of price vs power). For me after owning the C6 I realized that power at this time was not as important to me, and I really wanted to own a car that I obsessed over as a kid. I do wish I had the V10 though... As you will see in my newest videos I am going to buy a C8 when it comes out! So very excited for that.
or pay twice for the S-tronic version
Some say S tronic is too capable and boring on the track. The R8 is already sterile I'm regards to comfort Vs other cars and adding S tronic removes last bit of drama.
So people wanted an automatic that felt like a manual but when it performs like one they hate it 😂 do your research on cars before buying one
💯💯
R8 is so unreliable. Cost so much to repair.
Is that based on personal experience or Forums and UA-cam?
Super cars aren’t for broke people

Lol, wrong. I have a warranty on my '10 R8.
Despair at your weakness.
