Russ that was incredibly generous of you. I was along for the entire journey of you repairing the Telefunken. Thanks for sharing this with all of us. I really enjoyed watching your progress. The finished product looks beautiful. Well done. I know Jeff must be extremely touched by your generosity.

Thanks! I intended to do it as VCLT from the start, especially since I wasn't sure I could even fix it. :) It's an important piece of family history for him and I'm glad I was able to get it working again.

Wow. Once again, Russ, thank you. I will be reinstalling this into the cabinet next week, I'm stuck working a bunch of OT this week. I also want to change out the outlet in the wall that I'll be plugging into, because that's ancient as well. Once it is in and back together, I'll make a video showing it. Then I'll work on the record player installation and hookup. IF all goes well, this thing will be complete in another week. I'm still blown away by your generosity.

Awesome! I can't wait to see it all back together! Since the unit was never grounded in the first place and it seems OK at the moment, you can probably get away with one of those 3-2 prong adapters for now (if you want to try it out). :)

Watched the whole series with great attention, since i have an appointment with clients (actually a friend's family) this Thursday who have a similar 5116 Wk unit , who they say has power but no sound from any of the outputs. I have worked on vintage AM radios a bit and changed caps in more modern audio systems, but this one as your videos prove it, promises to be a lot more challenging. I do not know what the clients will want to do with the console either just a quick n dirty re start (if at all possible) or opt for a complete restoration. After watching the series i'm not sure i would undertake a whole resto project of this magnitude, but at the very least i'll have a look at it on location. I'm trying to muster up a check list to that effect, i'l be bringing minimum equipment such as multimeter, tube tester, Deoxit, and a few tools, but if you have any suggestions on how to do a basic check up i'm all ears. Thank's for sharing the series, incredible work sir, wish you had shot detailed footage on the Selenium rectifier replacement circuit and parts since i suspect it'll also be bad in the 5116 Wk, but i quite understand you could not have shot everything all of the time. Editing must have been quite long.
    Take car, God bless.

Glad you liked it. Part of the reason I had to do a complete recap is that the previous owner had already attempted it. That power resistor I mention in this video is something to check. Otherwise if the power supply seems good, give those slider switches a thorough soaking in deoxit and plenty of exercise. If it's still dead as a doornail, then yeah...a recap might be in order.

@@AmorphousAudio Gee thank"s for the reply, turns out we had to post pone the appointment to later this week since we had another ice storm here last Wednesday which left 1,1 million homes without power, heck some folks are still in the dark this morning. As for the initial diagnostic i'll do what i can on location but i'm pretty sure i won't be able to do much in their living room. Removing the back panel and fitting a mock up power cord for testing doesn't seem likely to happen and from what i can tell watching your videos, most buttons and pots won't be accessible for dex-oxing them without pulling the chassis out either. Guess i'll try to convince them to let me bring the whole console home. Might be easy to convince them though if after checking and replacing bad vacuum tubes the radio still remains silent. But hey i might get lucky who knows right. Have a great day, be well.
