A rare side stage video recording of Pavarotti singing the finale of "Ah Mes Amis - Pour Mon Âme" aria. The overlaid audio is the Decca recording from 1968.
That is absolutely intriguing, so in theory, the stage manager recorded the whole opera from the side lines? Which means that it should be some where... You don't suppose it originally had sound with it do you?
Fantastic! Why this opera wasn't videotaped, I'll never know. Not only did he sing like a god, but comic opera was really his forte...especially Donizetti. Thank you for sharing this rare clip.
My gosh... the things I would do to have that box... Lol. So the Met follies video was actually made in 1973? How did you find it? I'm so determined to find this video.
Corelli Merli Martinelli,Masini,Fillipeschi were spinto dark voices and were able to get to C.If a tenor artificially darkens his voice it becomes more difficult to attain a C. IMO there is a possibility that Domingo was lyric spinto tenor with limited range in his upper register. As it often seemed that his high notes were usually an adventure.Yes,he does seem like a complete musician.
@somewiseguy84 I think it is because he was classically trained for a while and many people would had liked to have seen what he could have done in that arena had he continued. I think he could have had an operatic tone had he wanted to pursue that kind of a career, but he has chosen what is best for him. Comparisons are always going to happen, but I take joy knowing that God has given each of us a distinct voice of our own to bless the world in unique ways. :)
only real tenor? (awesome one but not the only person in the world to be able to sing a top c) did he sing othello as much as del monaco? del monaco was a real tenor if you ask me, but we shouldnt compare. we should not compare pavarotti to del monaco or domingo (therefore i am a hippocrite :P) because they are totally different voices. and define capable, please operabuff. if you mean effortless, then nothing is ever effortless. especially in opera, you need to always support.
domingo is tenor, but has a hard time with high notes because his technique isn't correct. still he is a wonderful singer and sounds wonderful until he goes above A natural.
You are terrible wrong, Domingo is a tenor, but a short tenor, incapable of getting high C's, nevertheless the list is quite big. Even Beniamino Gilgi had serious troubles to get high C's so I do not dare to compare. I enjoy every tenor in their best and suitable roles.
Domingo started out as a baritone, trained his way to a tenor, and now that he is getting older he is going back to baritone roles. Yes it is possible to train yourself to gain higher notes and lower notes, just takes a lot of time.
I never knew that Pava. was a baritone. I don't think that's accurate. I know Domingo started as a bari. but trained to the higher notes. Luciano, like his dad, came out of the gate as a tenor and what a tenor he was. Riposa in pace maestro!
I vote we raid the Met archives!! Surely Met management would understand the great publicity and earnings possibilities if the were to release this!!---perhaps if we promise to clean up our mess???/ /:
No one can beat Luciano Pavarotti
Hard to beat THAT!
¡Impossible, I would say!

El más grande el Maestro. Esta pieza es increíble, gunto con alguna otra de Guillermo Tell y Di quella Pira. Grande Maestro, inmortal como su Arte.

well of course... considering the fact that Domingo's tenor range is fabricated. He is more of a baritone. whereas Pavarotti's is completely natural.
GRANDEEEEEEE
So what if it's dubbed. To see Pav actually performing this at such a young age is wonderful and I am thrilled with this post.
The greatest, period - end of discussion. No one can touch the Great One!!!
How could anyone possibly be any better? It's extraordinary - love it!
The one and only Maestro Pavarotti could do THAT!!
da inchinarsi per sempre davanti ai do di petto del maestro !!!!

My god my dear lord of peace......its soul shattering
Tenor of Tenors? It that a new reality show?
Oh- of course- terrible technique- right.
One only needs to hit a B4 to be a tenor.
