  • Katie Horton is a shining example of resilience in the face of adversity.
Horton speaks as a person who went through the transgender transition process and uses those experiences to help others. LGBTQIA+ representation amongst practicing therapists can create a strong support system for those facing gender or sexuality struggles with themselves, friends, or family.
Horton joins “UNBOUND: Saybrook Insights” to discuss the difficulties she faced coming out as a transgender person. She reflects on her journey toward healing and acceptance, her research into counseling built for the trans community, and her experience at Saybrook University.
Horton is both a current student and graduate of Saybrook University. Horton earned her M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Saybrook in 2020 and is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision program. Horton’s experience as a trans woman has shaped her research goals and enables her to bring a depth of clarity and understanding to clients dealing with LGBTQIA+ issues, transgender and gender identity, coming out, and transitioning.
