Despite being one of if not THE shortest lasting villain of the series Schlatt has cemented himself as my personal favorite DSMP villain, he's charismatic and is someone my dark side can resonate with, and even though his reign didn't last long he definitely made a lasting impact on the entire server and managed to go as far as to unite the server even if it was for a few fleeting uneasy minutes.
Even though I’m firmly outside of the dsmp fandom and have been for a while now, this song still brings back the same feeling of watching the original events unfold. These anachronism songs, babel has fallen, thousand more stories, they’re all a testament to the good the community had to offer and the staying power of the creativity it sparked
This is beautiful, I truly miss the blissful days on the DreamSmp and it's tales. Such a lovely song, Thank You. May all DreamSmp tales and characters stay alive in our hearts.
I've never watched DreamSMP, I only know JSchlatt from a handful of YT shorts, I know zero lore, I have zero context, and this is undeniably *awesome*. This is such a perfect tragic villain theme song! The vibe is that of a regrettable dictator, an anti-hero turned villain by no fault of their own. Trusting them was a collective mistake, but the best of all options. God, it's so good... Welp... I guess I need to learn the DreamSMP lore now.
Glad you enjoyed! Knight and I are working on archiving DSMP lore at the Dream SMP Archives if you're interested in learning more. If you google it, you should be able to find it pretty easily :)
This song is so good! In 2021 it would have been probably started a Cosplay-trend. Hopefully this gets the audience it deserves!!! I hella love it 👁️👄👁️
@stylishraptor5768 Well, I haven’t had the time or opportunity to do a DSMP cosplay in a while, but maybe one day I’ll revive my cosplay tiktok and get back into my Techno cosplay :)
I do not have much to say at this moment in time, but with what strength I am able to muster after being once again left in shock at the genius of our Good Knight of Endale, I have only this to say: that the song produced by Knight has not only met my expectations but went beyond them, as it always is with your works. Yet, to call it a mere song, I feel, does not simply do it justice. A title more fitting, I would say, is to call this lyrical poetry. And once again, what a great piece of work produced! I have no doubt of that at all, and I may even dare to say this is one of my favorite songs produced in some time by our good Knight. So once again, I wish to share thanks to you, alongside the often forgotten loyal Mango, who helped produce such a wonder as we see today.
1:53 I'm not gonna lie, when I saw this bit of art on the Community tab, UA-cam had cropped part of it out. So all I could see was the "Paint it black" part of the art. I genuinely thought that this was going to be a Rolling Stones parody for well over twenty-four hours. XD But anyway, craziness aside, this is a lovely song! I love the beat, specifically; it had me bopping from the very beginning. And the call-back to the actual streams throughout was beyond genius. It all flowed so darned well. Thanks so much again, Knight!! You always deliver!! >:DD (Also...Anachronisms? Pardon me if I'm getting a bit too curious for my own good, but what are you planning...?!)
Will this be on spodify and/or amazon music? This is amazing! A perfect villain song for a perfect villain. Personally, Schlatt is my favorite DSMP villain, even though his time was so short. It perfectly displays what a good bad guy should be. Like the old school disney villain's before everyone had to have a sad backstory and an excuse for being bad. This is seriously amazing. Great work!
Loved the vibes and the nice music video animation. Certain that took a while. Great colors and the tileted thick text was sharp. Very big man. Have a sneaking suspicion that the Anachronism songs are part of a new EP or album before Babel has Fallen.
Unfortunately missed the premiere due to work and finally heard it now All i have to say is you did an absolutely stunning job on this cover! Its amazingly well done too! I cannot wait for it to arive onto spotify but until then i shall be looping it on YT XD Keep up the amazing work!
Here’s to hoping I can fit it all in one comment! I’m doing it! Woo :3 This song really solidifies L’Manburg as Babel- and, of course, the biblical references certainly help. ‘Tear down those walls/make way for paradise…’ Schlatt is in a position of power, the ‘king’ as he says. He’s in charge, no one can question him… a god, if you wish. He sends the walls of Babel tumbling, starting the great destruction we see so often. Paradise is often known as Eden in the Bible (which made me think of the Kat song lol), and though I might be wrong, Babel was meant to be a paradise for all the people of Earth. Babel is destroyed, the people are scattered and shattered; the lost days of are long gone. There are also many references to the ‘chess pieces’ of Manburg. The burning of the flag, the new flag, the symphony… Fundy and Niki are my favorites, so I wanted to touch on these mentions. Fundy, in his spying, burns down the old flag of L’manburg, earning the trust of Schlatt and his cabinet while simultaneously losing the trust of the people and Pogtopia. It’s an interesting move, certainly, and I believe he created the new flag? I think? Which is a cool color scheme: red and black, two colors that thematically are often associated with darkness, anger, and violence… and with Schlatt. The new flag is new colors for a new reign, the lost pieces of L’Manburg are ashes in the dirt. The symphony is an part of the mythos of L’Manburg and the general themes and plots of the story; it’s a driving force and motivation for many of the characters. Characters like Pogtopia!Tommy and Manburg!Niki are driven by ‘saving’ it, by regaining the old ideals that have been lost (and really, did they ever exist?). For Schlatt, at least in this interpretation (I haven’t ACTUALLY watched most of this; thank god for Evan’s recaps), his motivation is chaos. He will destroy the walls, burn the flag, pressure his cabinet, exile the founders.. he doesn’t truly care for the country, its people, or its traditions. He asks ‘isn’t this what you wanted?’ and the people respond: No. The next verses really help to complete that image, at least for me. He’s flippant, his mood changes on a dime, and he exactly what power he has and what his enemies are up to. He’s perfectly prepared for death and murder, unable (or unwilling) to see the emotion behind the actions of those opposing him. They care, they CARE about their country, and here comes this goat with a bottle and penchant for sly words… well, it’s only natural that they rise to defend what is theirs. NOW! The awesome part! Where I look at the other songs and overthink similar lyrics /lh The first thing I want to point out is how he says ‘isn’t this what you wanted?’ In No More Saviors, Precipice, and Beloved, Desecration, Bad, Tommy, and Tubbo answer with ‘this is not what I wanted.’ They all wish to go back to better times, when they were free and they could be… just people. Friends. Not soldiers, not the playthings of immortals. It’s a very interesting little parallel, and I would (and could) rant on about character motivations for another three paragraphs, but this is getting long as it is- Next up is the themes of ‘goodbyes.’ In this song, Schlatt is helping the people of Manburg say goodbye to the old city of L’Manburg for something he deems as better. In Precipice, Tommy is NOT ready for goodbyes to Tubbo, his best friend. I was going to say something about Desecration, but that’s later, so… Next up is the popular motifs of sunrises and hills. ‘It’s my turn to rise up and fight/show them our will and our might…’ in BHF, sunrises are typically a Wilbur (hey, the CHARACTER btw, I’m doing analysis on characters and roleplay. You want more info on the situation, get it somewhere else please) motif. Which is… funny, considering the play of ‘sunrise’ and ‘son rise’. I always love it, and having that Schlatt quote with Quackity (?) put it into perspective and a new context. Again, hills are common: ‘grab your sword and prepare to fight/which hill will you die on?’ Dying on a hill often means sticking to a point or opinion against other arguments. I like ice cream, will I die on that hill? Well, will I keep liking it? I dunno. In this instance, it’s ’die on HIS hill’… which is Wilbur? I think? It’s something about opinions and views. I’m not sure. WOO. SO CLOSE!! Last up is the parallels between Pogtopia!Tommy (Desecration) and Schlatt (Help You Say Goodbye). In this, Schlatt is cruel, oft quick to change decisions, and doesn’t care about Manburg. Tommy, on the other hand, is appalled by what has happened to his city, to the place he thought of as safe. He’s willing to do much to gain it back. It matters so, so much to him. He nearly kills Schlatt and nearly loses himself. I’ve never realized just how perfect foils these two seem to be until his song released, so thanks! Also, I’d like to add, the melodic and vibe similarities to both Desecration and No More Saviors makes me really happy, and this is a wonderful song! Thank you for creating it, Mango and Knight!
I do love his lines, but I also kind of hope you'll upload a version without them, it always throws me off when I listen to music just to be pulled out by talking. The song is really good though. It's super fun.
It will be on Spotify when I get home from my travels in Japan ☺️ I set the song to premier on YT right before I left, and I have yet to get back home to upload the song to Spotify. But I’ll be home in about a week and a half and then I’ll upload it :) Until then, there is a loop button on UA-cam so that might help for now
