Rob was just more of a thunder God than the rest. And his background says it all. He plays like a perfectly oiled and tuned tank rolling into battle. With a rich Latin vibe. Laid back and tough as nails.

And the look on Rob's face is like he won the lottery. Then all the sudden James drops in with some respectful honesty: "Actually it's an advance on some percentages." They pan back to Rob & his face says it all - 'Oh these are savvy business guys now. They're not "giving" me a million dollars. They're giving me an advance on my work to come. i wonder what else it says in that contract?' That said - getting that job still is like winning the lottery. Only thing that would've been more perfect is if Lars suddenly whipped out some paperwork & said: "By the way - here's a lawsuit you'll need to sign. Turns out you were a Metallica fan in the late 90's & you downloaded a few songs off Napster. So we're going to be suing you for that million dollar advance."

I've dug Trujillo since Suicidal Tendencies & Infectious Grooves. Killer bassist
Metallica should let him play like he did in those bands... Epic
💯 the right choice!!! His edge, skill, fierce talent, experience, and he’s so humble, love ‘em all. 🙏🏽❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Robert later said that after the first day there, Lars wanted to go get a drink, and they ended up drinking all night, and that for the audition the next day he was so hangover he had to rest somewhere, all while James was now recently sober and probably insecure about people drinking.
I watch this every year. So great.
Damn Chris can jam just as well man, dude f'n rocks
That's amazing. I am an aspiring bassist and I love seeing this. Beautiful.
I feel so happy for Robert , a true beast .
Robert = the GOAT 🐐
THANK SO FCKINGGG MUCHHH TO UPLOAD THIS VIDEO!!!!
Thanks for posting this clip! Makes me want to revisit “Some Kind of Monster” and “St. Anger”. 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻 👍 🤘🏼
I'm not a huge Metallica fan to be fair, but I do like some of their stuff.
But I am a bass player.
But I'm not a huge Robert Trujillo fan to be fair, but I like some of his stuff.
But I'm a huge fan of Robert Trujillo as a person. What a great role model for humans and bassists alike. A top man.
And when James said to him "You made us sound better", he wasn't wrong.
The world loves Rob, we need more Robs.
I love rewatching this you can see it in his face like Holy shit I'm playing with Metallica and when his offered the job you can tell his thinking am I dreaming
Wow!!! Awesome and amazing!!!!
Rob really saved these guys i think. The guy is an incredible bass player
Congrats Trujillo . You are an amazing Bass Player .
I love this video, just so great to see :)
This dude is beyond phenomenal!!!
So cool so humble
Jason never got the praise he deserved....He was absolutey the best metallica bass player
Am so very much proud of him!!!! And yes especially!!!! Thank you guys for him being with you guys 2 this very day!!! History has been made!!!!
got chills watching the end of that.
I can try Battery . Battery? (Lars scratches his head) That part gets me every time. In this vid it seems the guys were more excited than Roberto.
As a long time fan of Robert....You chose wisely
Rob is amazing so glad he auditioned
"hasnt been played that way since cliff" well best compliment you'll get as a bassist there.
Idk, kind of seems like the Trujillo guy is the guy to play bass for this band and continue more than 20 years.
What y’all think?
I had a cd back in the good old days, think it was called metal millitia. A tribute cd to Metallica, with many famous metal players back then collaborated and made their versions of famous Metallica songs. And yes Rob was on the battery song already back then, so he knew the song. I think it was joey Belladonna on vocals as well. I am a big siucidal tendensis fan, thats why I rememeber
Totally on spot🎯
What a surreal day that must have been. So cool.
And they lived happily ever after.
Lux eterna
Freakin love Rob
So freaking cool!
"What 5 strings do you have?" The real moment he got the job lol
Metalica is still number one including with musicians very great job audition.. congrugulation the huge legend rock metalica !!@
I love Robs style🔥
This video makes me happy.
I’m so happy we got rob instead of anyone else, just fit perfectly
Robert is just perfect for metallica .....good sound , great attitude ..
Rob was just more of a thunder God than the rest. And his background says it all. He plays like a perfectly oiled and tuned tank rolling into battle. With a rich Latin vibe. Laid back and tough as nails.
considering how utterly fucked the band dynamics were at this point and how unfocused everyone was, it's genuinely staggering that they still made one of the best decisions as a band ever in hiring rob. a killer and a gentleman, since day dot
I loved this documentary, one thing that bugged me though was how involved the therapist tried being in the band. Giving lyrics and talking to the potential bassists? Glad they sacked Phil when they did
3:34 the moment james realized that trrrujillo is the true!!
Rob Is Awesome The Perfect Fit RIP Cliff
Hit the Jackpot!
i love that part at the end when Lars tells Trujillo: "To show you how serious we are about this, we're going to give you a million dollars right now." And the look on Rob's face is like he won the lottery.
Lars was always a master businessman LMAO
As soon as Rob plays the riff with that little pull off you just know that was the moment they were sold on him.
