In addition to Peter's amazing voice, he's an absolute genius at layering! As I understand it, there were about 120 layers to put together with this one.
Great review Coach !!! Peter is THE MASTER of layering and get this, Peter was at his home in Oregon, and Tim was in the Caribbean - Grand Cayman if I remember correctly) and they filmed the same day....you'd never know it ! Coach, to really understand how low Tim can go, if you can get a chance to see Home Free in concert (which is still a bit up in the air right now when that will start again) you have to feel him hit those notes in person...he makes windows rattle & you can feel it in your chest !!! I swear it really happens....it'll freak you out !! Please don't forget Home Free they are so good !!!!
@@CoverCoach I wonder if he could do it LOLOL ! It's an amazing couple of hours, as Home Free and not just singers they do little skits and are great ENTERTAINERS. Anyways brother you take care and have a super Sunday & Monday !
Yes Tim Foust did that at the end ohmygod ohmygod ohmygod I can't help it I love his voice such deep and guttural beyond words this man has talent beyond words
Of course she's not, coach Phil! 😁 For proof, watch this clip: ua-cam.com/video/cXU_xd3EtdI/v-deo.html&start_radio=1 The entire concert is awesome, but the song in question starts around 7:30. Go for it, with headphones!
Hey John :) That's such an exciting range! Don't think I've ever found him in the 1s! Although, I've heard him say he wakes up super early when he sounds like a "monster" to record the lower harmonies!
Hey Bryce :) Good spot! Just listened to Peter's original. I'm lost for words at him getting down there :) I've never heard Peter actually sing that low before though.
As I understand it, Tim only recorded one track for this. All of the other layers are Peter, including the low notes in the background when Tim is singing.
Peter is a Master at layering his vocals and anyone who sings with him. The cinematography is so dynamic and drawing that you can't help but gut pulled into a different world. After Peter's solo part when Tim comes back in with his bass vocals, he just hits you right in the heart with those notes. And finally at the end when Tim hits that last deep, deep note, watch his right shoulder and you can see the rumble and the screen shaking under the weight of that last note. It's so EPIC !!!
I feel like the mountain and all its' whole history and wieght and sorrow is on my shoulders with Tim there. This is so wonderful, and sad.... and secret.
Basically every time Peter sings I cry and I can't help it and when he adds these gorgeous male and female singers that was so totally over-the-top hey I just melt this man is incredible Peter Hollens keep doing what you're doing please please please please because it's so damn incredible
Okay, now you have t listen to Geoff Castallucci's equally as wonderful version of this number. It's under the title Far Over the Misty Mountains Cold and, like with hie Sixteen Tons, it's a quartet of four Geoffs.
And Tim shakes the audience when he does that bass growl, the whole theatre shakes, plaster has fallen, speakers have blown, Grandma's false teeth have fallen out sitting in the second row. He hasn't blown anyone's clothes off with bass sound waves yet that I know of...but I feel it's coming!
I am so damn in love with this version the Deep guttural sounds of the male voice it's right here it's right now this is so damn gorgeous has tears in my eyes
I miss Tim in the middle bit too, but it is so worth it to have the contrast create such impact at the end. If you want to hear songs where Tim is more integrated throughout, their collabs on Greensleeves and Sound of Silence are fantastic. Greensleeves highlights Tim's range especially, and Sound of Silence has a ton of complexity in the backing layers.
Wasn’t that great?!! Yeah Tim stares into your soul and kills with that last note. Glad you noticed the camera shaking. He’s blown speakers before. Peter the master of layering does have such a pretty voice. He’s amazing and probably has a 5 octave range himself as Tim does. I don’t know how he sings so high and how Tim sings so low. Loved the video and the costumes too. Great reaction! I feel like they both could be in the movie!
It almost seems like these days, you have to have blown speakers out or you are not considered a Basso Profundo... lol Avi Kaplan has done that as well, on occasion. :)
Hey Tracy :) That's a really nice way of describing it! The same could be said for Peter's Skyrim or even the Civilization one he did. Have a fun day :)
I'll be honest. This is the first reaction of yours I've seen. In my defense, it was the first time you've popped up,lol! I am a huge Home Free fan and absolutely love Tim Foust...which led me to Peter Hollens because of their collaborations. If you have not heard it, I would just live to get your reaction to another collaboration they did, a cover of "Greensleeves". I myself was so taken by it, I shed a tear or two! In it, you will hear Tim's higher range as well as the lower. I was already familiar with it, yet I was still amazed and so moved. Perhaps because of the different "genre", if you will. I'm subscribing hoping you will react to it.( Tim and Peter also do a cover of "Bridge over Troubled Water" that is equally beautiful) Who knows...perhaps it will lead to reactions of Home Free, who did Amazing Grace with Peter! Hey Kristi :) Welcome aboard! That's so interesting, because it was loving Peter Hollens that lead me in the direction of Tim and Home Free. I've heard their Greensleeves, but not for a long time! Thanks for the suggestions and for being so passionate about the guys! Have a fun day :)
Geoff from voiceplay has been helping Tim with subharmonics and the other way around with Tim’s growl notes I think Tim shows it off some in the voiceplay video just sing. Many may not know but Peter first did this song solo. I believe you can still find that version. He later did a remake with Tim Foust which re popularized the song. I think Peter has done all of the Lord of the rings and Hobbit songs. And other colab's with home free.
You learned more about Tim Foust pretty quickly since the Sea Shanties. Peter took a large lead because it was his video, but he & Tim have collaborated often. They have a long standing friendship since they were in the a cappella group Ball in the House together.
Peter is a master mixing many layers for a unified sound. He also has an AMAZING range. There is a great duet with he and Avi Kaplan (Black is the Color of my True Love's Hair). Another person who's amazing at mixing layers is Geoff Castalucci, he's the bass from VoicePlay and has several songs on his solo channel. Sixteen Tons is a great example of his solo work.
I thiiiiiink I’m correct that Peter had originally done this song solo so that is why Peter has the whole middle section, he re-layered later when he added Tim (I could be wrong but I believe that’s what I’d heard)
Hey :) Yeah, you're right! There's an original Peter version. I've heard him re-produce tracks with new artists in the past too! Country Roads for example :)
Another great cover band you should check is Post Modern Jukebox, They have hundreds of covers on youtube. From Home free I would recommend Thier cover of Crosby Stills and Nash - Helplessly Hoping. Its such a great showcase of thier harmonies.
Lol, I love to watch your expressions. You can't hide how their voices make you feel. Put headphones on. Much better. By the way, you have a nice voice too.
Tim is adding a little metal with that last note. As an example, check out Slaughter to Prevail: Demolisher. Warning though it is a very heavy song, but, these guys are professional. The drummer will also get your goat. There is one section where the vocalist, Alex Terrible, achieves this kind of low growl for an extended period. In Russian too.
If you enjoy a Capella, you should try listening to Pentatonix singing Hallelujah and move on from there. They have so much to offer, like their award wining version of a Daft Punk Medley. And if you are interested in extraordinary vocals, try Dimash Kudaibergen singing SOS D'un Terrienne en D'etrresse and follow his work in chronological order to see how he has improved. He is said to have one of the best voices in the world today.

This is how the song should have been in the movie! :D If you want to take a look at another great cover artist, Check out Jonathan Young. His voice is insanely powerfull. To name a few of his best covers: "let it go" "how to save a life" "bells of notre dame" "livin la vida loca" "legens never die" there is so many to choose from. He also does alot of collaborations with over cover artists. Give him a listen :)
To be fair... Peter can go from Tenor to bass without trouble so that in the start COULD be Peter Hollens. He has a great vocal range and can do allmost all vocal ranges... So yeah.
Tim may obviously be THE BASS here but you are severely under-estimating Peter's range. He can at least touch Baritone, believe it or not! It really shocked me when I first heard it out of him! Peter actually covered this by himself (separate video on his channel) before Tim agreed to fill it in a little bit but for OBVIOUS reasons, this version gets all the attention now. YES to the camera shake!!! :)
Peter can go quite low himself, not as low as Tim, but still very low. Aside from Pentatonix, you should add BYU Vocal Point and BYU Noteworthy as well as Eclipse 6 to your channel.
lol, I wonder how an elephant would react to Tim's voice. They communicate with tones below human hearing. It would be great for him to attempt it at a zoo. Just sayin...
Peter can cover high tenor to baritone and Tim can cover extreme bass to tenor. What a combo! You must hear them do Greensleeves.
Yeah, it is such a lovely song
"I'd love to hear Tim" as soon as he comes back in "Let me pause and talk instead of listening to what i just said i wanted to hear because there is nothing on earth i love listening to more than the sound of my own voice".

You really should listen with ear buds/head phones.
I looked around, didn't see a link for a website or anything. Working on one?
Hey :) Yeah, currently building it! You'll be first to know when it's ready for us mate! :)
This is how the song should have been in the movie! :D
If you want to take a look at another great cover artist, Check out Jonathan Young. His voice is insanely powerfull. To name a few of his best covers: "let it go" "how to save a life" "bells of notre dame" "livin la vida loca" "legens never die" there is so many to choose from. He also does alot of collaborations with over cover artists. Give him a listen :)
Hey :) I know Jonathan, well not personally. But that would be way exciting! :) Some Jon stuff to look out for soon :)
@@CoverCoach nice. Looking forward to it :) Yeah knowing Jonathan personally would be very cool.
❤👍
To be fair... Peter can go from Tenor to bass without trouble so that in the start COULD be Peter Hollens. He has a great vocal range and can do allmost all vocal ranges... So yeah.
Hey Andre :) You're right mate! He crosses vocal parts so easily. It actually turns out it WAS Peter! Crazy I know, but good spot! Have a fun day :)
Well you know; some one has to sing the earthquake part .
Please listen using head phones
you should react to geoff castelucci’s version of this :)
Peter had his wife hit some high notes he could not quite pull off..
Tim Foust, Avi Kaplan, and Geoff Castellucci are all capable of producing extremely low notes.
Are AMV’s viable for Reactions?
react home free featuring peter hollens.... still haven't found what i'm looking for U2Cover
The sound is much like the Gregorian chants.
Song request: pls Check Out Dan Vasc With My Mother told me
I hope people have been suggesting Floor Jansen's covers...
Did your beard grow bigger while listening to this!
Hey Lindsay :) Not quite, but my ears expanded! :)
new here can you please react to pentatonix the sound of silence. new rules. hallelujah. havana. can you feel the love tonight. mary did you know .
Hey Lena :) Pleasure to have you :) Those suggestions sound awesome! Have a fun day :)
Can I recommend Peter Hollands version of I see fire. I like it better than Ed Sheeran's version.
That wasn't a sub harmonic not. That was a growl note.
Another great Bass singer is Geoff Castellucci. You should react to his Sixteen Tons
