Great review. I actually like the shopkeeper aspect. I like the break in between dungeon runs. Lovely game.
A disagree a little. 1st dungeon was fun. 2nd dungeon started to become repetitive. 3rd and 4th dungeon was straight on grind and repetition. They were all the same. All small confined rooms, randomized. But still the same.
The weapons also become boring quick. There is one set of weapon for each dungeon. That's it. Two bows, two spears, etc.. Becomes predictable quickly
The shop part was fun for the 1st dungeon, then become more like work than fun. But after 2nd dungeon is complete, an employee can sell items for you, so that helps a bit.
All in all a good game with a good gameplay loop, but it feels like one dungeon copy-pasted into 4 almost identical dungeons
I can see where youre coming from to a point. I liked the dungeon crawling itself enough where the similar dungeons didn't really bother me.
Mostly I agree with your point about the weapons - once I got an upgraded set I didnt feel like going back and grinding a different weapon just to test it out. Because of that I just stuck with greatsword and bow my whole game.
Love the feedback!
Nice honest review!
I had that same feeling while watching the video and my meter was pointing at "get the game now!" That's when I saw your post.
I start playing Diablo 2 lord of destruction again in 2022 and I let my army of the dead do all the work for me.
I can't play this game, unless I can summon minions xD
Cheers for the review
@@IndieLad hey man, don't know if you read comments still, and if this is too personal then please ignore, but is 55k subscribers + the resulting ad revenue, merch sales, streaming numbers, enough to make a living off of? Even if it's only just to cover basic expenses and whatnot. I'm curious at what point YT/streaming becomes a viable day job, as it's something I'm very interested in, but I also have a young child, who I don't want to take time away from since in already working a normal job. The only way that it would be acceptable to me is if I knew it could eventually be sustainable even with only a moderate sized audience, and also I feel that having a fulfilling, creative career such as this would make me a happier, more well-adjusted parent. Sorry for rambling, and if you do read this, thank you for taking the time. Your videos are invaluable to me when it comes to deciding what games my daughter and I will play next! Peace
@@afk_hesh Hey Hesh! First off, thanks for watching my videos! I'm so happy I could help you find some awesome games!
Secondly, yes, I believe that you can definitely make a living off of UA-cam. But fair warning: It's a ton of work. Right now I make about $20/month with videos, with about 12k views each month. Keep in mind, I stopped making videos about a year ago to pursue a career in voice acting (full time now!!)
And while I know I'll get back into making videos again, I also know that first and foremost, it's got to be a passion project, because it takes a ton of hours, a ton of dedication, and maybe even luck to make a full-time living off of UA-cam.
I spent about 5 years streaming, and unless you put a ton of time into planning it, it's not very viable to make a living off of it.
If you're looking to be a content creator, UA-cam is THE way - I firmly believe that. Because as I said, I made a lot of effort over a year ago, and I'm STILL making money from it, if just a little bit.
Follow your dreams fella. It's not always going to be easy, but I can tell you, after chasing after a creative job for so long - once you get there, it's worth it. Even if it's not exactly what you set out to do.
The skills I've gained through streaming/Youtubing literally fueled my success in voice acting. Give it a shot!

@@IndieLad hey there, I have a question too, I want to become a voice actor too but I don't know how to start, do you maybe have any tips?
this review was fantastic, and it had me buying the game half way thru the video. thank you for such an honest review and getting me excited to play this game! ☺️
Thanks!! Glad you liked it and I hope you love the game!
Is it fun?
@@rivall8105 it doesn't look fun. It's more like a job and you'll die a lot judging by the Dark soul reference from the video uploader.
Hey stabb! You probably dont remember me but im Kuna. I was really active on your stream mid 2019 when you were playing super mario maker 2. I just remembered you but couldnt find you in my twitch subs so i searched on twitter and saw you changed your name and your concepts lol. Even if we dont know each other i'm really proud of you for not having abandoned because i know how hard it is to make content. Please never abandon i'm sure one day people will find out how underrated you are. I've also seen that you weren't really active on twitch anymore which makes me sad because we could really see how you were as a person but these new types of video are also really cool so do what makes you happy (i'm not here to tell you what to do either). Hope you'll achieve your dreams and i'd also like to hear from you. I must go to sleep for now, catch up with you later!
Hey Kuna!! Of course I remember you!! Im glad you tracked me down, its so great to hear from you!
Yeah Im really liking making video content like this, i plan on doing it for the forseeable future!
Thanks for the kind words, you really brightened my day 😁
No one cares bro @antoine
@@ilityouup4202 it's sad that you use some of your fleeting existence to make such a shitty comment, please, for once, don't type some shitty thing on the internet and go do something worth while in your life, thank you.
@@ilityouup4202 I care a year later
Really well-made review.
Keep it up man, I hope you gain the traction you deserve :)
Thanks man, and Ill make sure to mind my language 😁
Got this game on sale with the DLC and when using $5 worth of Nintendo Eshop coins the game and DLC was only $3, so exited to play this game
Got myself Pokemon Shield and bought me whis game from my Gold coins.
It was worth it. (Had more fun with Moonlighter then Pokemon)
Great review, and great vid. Thanks for putting it out there!
Moonlighter failed in ways that make me more excited for Haunted Chocolatier. I really wanted to like the game, i love roguelites/likes and management games but the shop management was so minimal that it led me to feel like the whole system was there just to disguise a cookie clicker. (make money>upgrade>go deeper>make more money>upgrade>go deeper>ad nauseam).
If there were interesting characters, dialogue, social aspects, variety and build depth then I would enjoy it more but by the time I got to the third dungeon I was absolutely sick of the system.
Nice review. It make perfect sense.
Don't you find it strange you can upgrade your gears with all the money in the world, but you can't bring a horse wagons to carry your loots?
They make the bag small just to make you do the same dungeon over and over again.
Thank you for this. I am a new stardew valley fan and this game pops up on the Reddit as a similar game so I was watching it. Also waiting for Haunted Chocolatier…
@@utherpendragon4227 It's all good. I did really want to enjoy it because as I said I enjoy each individual mechanic but there's no variation in the game loop, there's no interesting people to talk to. It really can be broken down to a cookie clicker with extra steps. The roguelite elements of it are so minimal as well, it just doesn't make for a lasting experience
Sick video bro! Keep up the work on games not getting enough love
Thanks man!! Ill definitely keep it up, I love me some indie games!!
Thanks! got the complete edition for only 5 bucks and also hades for 12!
I watched a few reviews before this, but I wasn't convinced to buy it until I watched this one. Great work!
nice review my good sir, heres my sub
The shop keeping thing is my fav at the moment
Love the review on this game i friggin love. just beat the game today on the hardest difficulty now i just have to clear the 6th and final DLC dungeon and move on to new game+ and collect those rings and get the new gear that is added when the game is completed.
This is the kind of game I can't tell if I'll like or not until I try it. I usually know 30 sec into a review if it's for me or not. I'm gonna give it a shot. Nice review btw good job!
Did you like it. I’m also on the fence.
If you aren’t sure if you will like it, there’s a HUGE free demo on switch, that’s how I found it
Just bought the game 2 days ago on my Nintendo Switch for €6,49 best 6 euro ever spend can't stop playing 😁 cheated a little bit by looking up price list online so always happy face's when selling items 👌🏽
Haha nice! I did find the original price finding a bit tedious at times actually! Should have cheated a bit myself 😁
That's actually smart xD
Great review, just got the game on sale
Same just bought for $4 you like it so far I have a switch and have no idea what to buy or play
For anyone watching now, this game is on sale! (On nintendo store) I came to this video to see if i wanted to buy it and i think i do!
Your videos Are extremely underrated
You make better reviews than ign
That means a lot man, thanks!!
So True
Yes im loving the game, just started it yesterday. I was getting a bit obsessed trying to track the EXACT dollar / currency that I could nudge the price of the items up to 🤣
i don't really think it's the repetitive gameplay that people dislike, It's that the game is too easy for there to be this much repetitive gameplay. This is exactly like dark souls combat in that it is boring and repetitive, but the challenge of dark souls makes up for it, but with moonlighter it doesn't. The only boss I really had any trouble with was the last one from the dlc. it's too devoid of challenge/sense of adventure. i'd really like to see this game but instead of only finding drops you can find combat skills from bosses/some chests.
As someone who never gelled with Dark Souls this really put me off, which is a shame because it looked fun.
I love the main menu music is it just me😁
Now they just need to mix it with elements from Stardew or maybe bring in even more management stuff and more RPG elements and it be a solid 9
I always find it funny when reviewers compare any game in existence to either Zelda or Dark Souls. Reminds me of Dunkeys video about originality in video games.
Idk which one to buy now,Ori the collection or moonlighter?
Oooh, tough choice.... honestly I think I liked ori more
I would go with ori to
Glad to see it has sold well at 2 mil copies
Currently on steam with all the dlc for $3.63
2:24 Wait, what??? I had to double check for just what it was said.
The game really looks to be fun to play and brings some, back in the day, The Legend of Zelda vibes.
We're not above graverobbing in Moonlighter! there's loot to be got!
Right! I was so confused why he kept saying souls like combat. Like are we looking at the same game? This is a Zelda merchant hybrid. Just because it has hard combat and boss monsters it's a souls like?!? What! LOL I wanna jump of a bridge some times. Good review tho.
Sup! I mean the way combat works in this game is similar to the way it does in Dark Souls. Different weapons with different mechanics, slow animations that force you to plan your moves, limited health, and heavy consequences
@@IndieLad yeah I get what you mean. I got ps plus and Moonlighter is on there so I was gonna try it out cause it looked Zelda like to me. Link to the past is my favorite game of all time. Buuut the second you said inventory management...I died lol I play a lot of Minecraft and thats enough inventory management for a life time lol cool review tho bro. I'm gonna watch some more for sure
Yooo LTTP is a blast! Ive even gotten into the randimizers for a bit and it was straight up a good time!
Right there with you on the inv management too. Every single one of my chests eneded up being a dump chest lol
my homie the retailer always got me when i need a new weapon
Is local multiplayer possible?
I don't think so.
Looks a lot like Children of Morta (a great game).
Mannn am still deciding if i should get it cus i tried dead cells and sucked at it qwq , but it's on sale on the nintendo store noww ahhhh
I think theres different difficulties you can pick from
Dead cells is great
App not available in my country. Thats a first.
Cant have you getting any ideas about crypt looting and capitalism!
SUBBED!! 😊
Welp, I’m sold on buying this game only 2 minutes in
Would you stream indie games? Or are you not a "lets play" kinda person. Jw. You have a good voice for it.
Hey man, I streamed for 2 or 3 years, nothing ever really came of it honestly. I might go back eventually, but I'm in the middle of trying to switch careers to Voice Over actually!
@@IndieLad I'll be watching the journey. 🤙🏻 remain dedicated man.
You can count on it 😁
0:25 aight I'm in
I'm loving the game, freaking awesome
Underrated opinions
5.78 complete edition Us Eshop
Good review tho! You got a good voice
Thank you!!
there's an easy way to know how to price an item, though I'm not sure if posting that here would be in poor taste.
Nice review. It's currently on Steam sale for $4.79.
Don't you find it strange you can upgrade your gears with all the money in the world, but you can't bring a horse wagons to carry your loots?
They make the bag small just to make you do the same dungeon over and over again.
That's that part that keep me away. Hmmm🤔
Did you get it?
I hope the double stack mod or unlimited stack mod will do the trick (Y)
@@slumplxrd934 Yeh. Bore after a few days. You're basically works as s Picker.
@@53Memati53 good idea!
I just discovered this game an holy hell is it fun!!!!
Hell yeah it is!! Have you tried the DLC yet? Its next on my list!
@@IndieLad not yet it was included in the sale price lol
This was a fun review loved it loved the game loved the video
Thanks man!
this looks like a really cool zelda game kappa
I bought it this morning and just now stopped. It's 3 am...
"Darksouls like combat" is pushing it a bit. I enjoyed the game for the shopkeep part, but the combat... eh. I went with sword and shield, with bow as my secondary weapon. You can't NOT choose the bow, there are too many flying enemies that are untouchable otherwise (they can float across abyss parts). But then you quickly realize, while the bow is weaker than the other weapons, and incredibly annoying because it can only shoot in 4 directions, it also trivializes a lot of enemies, because it makes dodging their attacks so much easier. I beat all bosses in two tries, including the final boss.
And that's fine, not all games have to be combat focused, but saying it's like darksouls is utterly misleading. If you want a game that's truly about the combat, I would recommend undermine instead.
Just got this game from xbox gamepass, all im saying is addicting…haha😅
Gotta sub
Much appreciate! I'll keep the videos coming!
@@IndieLad awesome
I had a lot of fun with Moonlighter. However, it got boring after a while. The combat is decent, but it is quite basic. I ran into the same issues I had with Cult of the Lamb. The game is fun, but the combat becomes a little too simple after you get some upgrades. That's where I usually leave a game like this. The shop mechanic is really fun, and I found this part to be more fun than the combat. But even that mechanic couldn't really keep me hooked for too long. Good game, just gets stale for me after a while. Maybe I have played too much POE/Last Epoch over the years.
Try undermine
My boyfriend bought the game for 5$ on Switch. Yeah worth every penny
Man now idk if I should get this or Hollow knight…
2 completely different games, but Hollow Knight is one of my top games of all time
@@IndieLad I see, I think I’ll get this one first since it’s on sale(as well as the dlc) and keep hollow knight as my next game!
Hollow knight all the way
This game is 80% off on Steam right now. I got it for 3-fucking-dollars.
i just got it for $2 lol on switch
@@TheOnlyDTM Will it run on Switch?!
so much pain!
Yeah man nothing like losing an inventory full of loot because you're bad at the game
Found the game to be beautiful, but very grindy and annoyingly buggy on Switch
someone do a shit counter pls
This game manages to make me so mad with the littlest things tbh I hate this game I wish I could enjoy it tho
This game is nothing like Dark Souls. It's not even close.
Another game that has dungeons that blow any zelda dungeon away, but hey im just a guy that presents facts to crowds that dont wanna hear it
I’ve never heard a gamer nerd stay sh!? this much.
Dark souls like combat?? Dude it's clearly Zelda. TF lol
The overall gameplay and dungeon crawling are like Zelda but the combat mechanics are like Dark Souls
@@IndieLad If you really think about it. Dark Souls is basically Zelda on Hardcore mode with less focus on story and more on combat. Just the generalities of the games. So I guess we are just comparing apples to apples here lol
Holy shit you just blew my mind
This game sucks, terrible combat mechanics. Dodging still gets you hit, controls are laggy and the game is full of bugs. Don't recommend this, cannot even rebind controls without getting a bug. Dev team refused to fix the control mapping bug too, so you can't remap your weapon swap key or change your attack from A button to something else, pretty average.
Why do you say "shit" so much, it feels forced for no reason. Good review though 👍👍
some people cuss n shit. get off the internet if you dont wanna see it.
Stardew Valley but Zelda game 😱
