You will never forgive me for loving Hoya retusa and sending you that pic once, will you? 😂 I really don't like most of the Hoyas from this list. And I certainly wouldn't buy them at those prices. But hey, who asked me? I have serpens in cloche now, but it's too small. SH helps, so we will see. I won't buy one again if it dies, let alone for $100. And I agree. You could buy the entire setup - decent camera, decent lights, probably editing software, some external hard drives and have money left for Roquefort cheese.

Hi Happy New Year! I just found your video. I agree with you on not paying the high prices for a tiny cutting that might not live. I’m not into the rare or expensive plants. I find the more common ones do not stress me out and I enjoy them. I am just getting into wanting a few Hoya’s. I have been adding plants to my home in California USA since 2012. The most I have ever paid for a full large plant was $32.00 US dollars. Thank you for stating fact the plant prices have gotten too expensive.
Some prices are justified, but in my opinion none of these are. And I also don't think we should own every plant under the sun. Especially rare ones. There are people who are true collectors, but I think a lot of people have these 'rare' plants just because they can.

@@BasiePlants for 2 nodes of Serpens it’s around $80. One of my friends sent me a cutting of hers for free. They grow so fast it’s appalling how much people charge
I don't understand why you dislike Hoya Carnosas so much. I have a huge one. I grew it from a one leaf cutting and have had it for about 11 years now. I love it and it flowers regularly and does not need much attention at all. If you let the strings go wild and do their own thing they will grow bushy and beautiful. I never took cuttings from it except for once after a move when a few strings got damaged and needed to be removed. The vines are about 2m long and I am very, very proud of this plant. I am trying to grow other kinds of Hoya now :)
I don't dislike carnosa at all. I dislike the hype around silver carnosas and the crazy prices. Since I made this video, the price for a cutting of Jody's silver jumped to $2500.
Thanks for another great video. I absolutely love your content. I have one of these overpriced silver hoyas, and the price has more than doubled since I got it in the spring. I don't regret getting it. But my regular old pubicalyx has incredible silver markings, which is equally beautiful and cost me only $12.00 (USD).
Which one do you have? 🙂 Hey, I also have the undulata, and love it to death. But if I was looking at prices now, I would probably skip it. The price went up crazy in the last 2 months. I also have nice and splashy pubicalyx that I like so that will have to do in terms of silver for me.
Undulata is fairly cheap here maybe because it's our native plant 😅nurseries here also propagate undulata like crazy since the price is slowly increasing in domestic market (and surely way more expensive when it comes to export). but well rooted plant with 1 node 2 leaves normally costs less than 15 usd.
I collect hoyas as a hobby. In Poland, some varieties cost a lot. Often these are unstable varieties that regress if not properly maintained. Fortunately, I was able to buy cheap beautiful species such as h. davidcummungii, h. incrassata, h. diptera. For me phenomenally bloom and are undervalued. :)
Happy New Year, Miro! Love your overpriced Hoya video 😁 Please keep making videos in 2021 and I hope that Hoya prices come down, but I’m not holding my breath. So far I have not killed any Hoya plants, but would be concerned about buying only one node too. I have lost other plants in 2020.
I am also not holding my breath for that. I am glad you are keeping your hoyas alive. I am sorry about other plants though. I lost some this year too. Happy New Year to you as well and I will definitely make videos in 2021 as well :)
Miro, can I just say it's liberating to hear from another hoya lover that they don't like Compacta. I have never really liked it, and I just don't understand why so many people are in love with it. I do like Grey Ghost and AH074 but I would not pay a crazy price for either of them. For Wilbur Graves I've seen and heard a lot of things about it that make me think that it's possibly a scam. I have seen several that start with that beautiful variegation and then revert to very little or no splash. Others say it needs special LED lights to keep the splash. I'm not enough in love with it to spend money on that one. I'd prefer a Pubicalix Splash, or something else. My favourite hoya purchase so far has been Callistophylla and I got it early enough that it wasn't overpriced, and the cutting I bought had 7 leaves, with multiple nodes.
I honestly bought my compacta because that was the first time I saw it offered for sale. So it was one of those FOMO moments. But I dislike them. I wouldn't pay that money for AH074, Grey Ghost or Wilbur Graves either. Yes, splash can increase/ decrease in relation to the light and more consistent light will give you better splash = LED light. I love calistophylla! It is one of my favorites. Now, that's a stunner.
That sounds like a good idea! I don't know the prices for all of them as some were received in a bundle, and they changed a lot. But it could be good to compare them to what they were and to how much they cost now.
You're right on the money (pun intended). Prices for these plants have gone astronomical. Until people stop paying these ridiculous prices the prices will continue to increase. It's all about supply and demand. Once the demand stops, sellers, in order to get rid of their inventory, will be forced to reduce the price, thereby driving prices down, either that or be left with excess inventory. Unfortunately, people being greedy and having the "I have to have it mentality" will continue to pay these outrageous prices. I saw an auction the other day. The seller said bidding starts at $20 - the first bid on the page, the very first one, from someone who "had to have it" bid $125! They didn't win, nor even come close as other bidders continued to drive prices up exponentially. It was very disheartening to see this. So - you are 100% correct - many hoyas are waaaayyy over priced. I couldn't agree with you more. Have a great new year and I wish you the best of luck in the coming year, and look forward to seeing more of your videos.
It is really becoming crazy. And yes - I was thinking the same. We should ALL stop buying these plants and the prices will come down. But of course, not everyone will do that. There will always be people who will think "Oh now there is less demand so I can actually get that plant" and they will still buy it. I think we will see some price increase in the next year as well.
@@BasiePlants Great video 😀 Plant prices are super crazy, you can buy a full grown adult, flowering sized, healthy, relatively rare orchid species for £20-£30, I don't get it 🤷♀️ also, I'm with you on species vs colour forms. Species are so much more interesting.
I think so too! I did forget to mention that plant community kinda goes through these craze periods. I mean, collecting orchids was an extreme sport once.
I was skeptical clicking on this because in my mind, if you like it, want it, and buy it. Whatever. People spend money on worse. But, the farther you got down your list, the more shocked and appalled I became 🤣
I do agree, your money, you can spend it on whatever you want. Some hoyas in this video are far more expensive. The silver compacta, for example, is $2500 for one node now :) I think it is not the worst thing for people to know that in 2019, before hoyas got some major attention, this Hoya was $200 per cutting. :D
And I’m crying every time someone buys a wet stick for 50 or 70 eur… I saw offers with grey ghost for 50-70 in early 2022, so probably prices are going down again 😆
I think you should wait a bit more for Grey Ghost :) I would give perhaps 30 euros for it :) Now, Nova Ghost, and others are a different story. I don't think those will come down in prices any time soon.
@@BasiePlants I have a rule- not paying more that 25 eur for plant- exempt it’s something soo huge, beautiful and beyond say no. One leaf cutting for even a hoya- big no no😀 (because I can spend it at least on 3 Hoya cuttings))
I mean... I wouldn't even pay 100€ for a plant lmao. I can't understand how a single node can cost 300€+, it's insane to me. They're plants!! Jesus Christ. I think I'd understand these prices better if they sold big plants for that price, you know?
I would definitely not pay 100 euros for a cutting. It's just not for me. Maybe that price is realistic for some (certainly not these as it increased greately over time for some of them), and if a plant is more than 100 euros... Well, maybe it just is not a plant for me. 🤷🏻♂️
Well, this was recorded over 2 years ago. Prices have changed since then :) Most of these prices for these hoyas were actually pretty standard in the US, some were even much more expensive in the US than what I said in the video.
So…, I’m late here. But! I fully agree with you on any compacta. I never had one and never will. I saw Betsy’s comment and I tried retusa briefly once but no… I don’t think will go there again (even if that no is not as firm as it is for compacta 😅). Where I don’t agree is the carnosa ‘Argentea’. Have you seen that one IRL? It’s spectacular! ✨
I startet with compacta and i love it. Looks like a mad medusa to me. The sad thing about ghost/silver/variegated plants is, that they are not stable :/ I love your sarcasm btw xD
Ghost are unstable anyways. Sometimes you see them, sometimes you don't. 😂 I am glad you do! :) I am still unsure about the compactas. Regular one included. 👀
Hoyas like Wilbur Graves do produce more silver under constant, even light, such as LED light. So it can vary greately. I am not sure what causes the silver in Grey Ghost, but it is an interesting topic for research.
Great video idea, we need to share this to help others out 💪 Those who throw shade should also be spilling tea 😉 I was hoping for the Undulata price! Transparency will help all of us 🌈 but it is your decision ofc! I saw an Undulata cutting yesterday and it was 175 euros. 😱
Pretty sure I could fit a top quality sewing machine, a laptop, a tablet, and a projector in that budget, and maybe even spare some. I truly love hoyas but this is just madness. PS I heard H. Polyneura is also very expensive in the US, but I find it inexpensive here in Belgium.
Oh yes! Hoya polyneura goes for $30 or more for a cutting in the US. It's crazy, it's nowhere near that in EU. I like that you would buy a sewing machine. You can make clothes for yourself in the zombie apocalypse. That is the most useful thing.
Honest! 😂 I could never be mean 👀 Well, I wouldn't want other hoyas to have higher price, so I am glad it's only for the silver ones. They can have those.
Wow I just purchased a small Hoya Mathilde Splash for $20 Aus dollers in Australia which isn't bad as I've heard it's fast grower so in theory, my plant will get to a decent size in the next year.
@@BasiePlants ok. TYSM for your precious time and suggestions. I was told to keep in shade. And so did I. And already one leaf lost the splash. Will put it back in sun in the west side of my house.
As always an entertaining video! Honestly what's with those prices!? I personally, don't care for all the Hoyas on this list. I also prefer the colour green over silver. There are so many other beautiful Hoyas out there that aren't as pricey. Unfortunately, prices of Hoyas are going up. :(
I know! The prices are crazy! I would rather rent an apartment in NYC, thank you very much. Well, maybe not there, as it could probably give me several months of rent in some other places. I love just "normal" hoyas. Green leaf and all that plain stuff. I agree, there are so many hoyas out there that are not pricey, but I think those will be pricier soon as well, unfortunately.
Lol in my area, there are a lot of people who propagate these rare hoyas and sell them on facebook marketplace for high amounts of $, I think some do it for a living, but to see a picture of a plant with one leaf in a little plastic cup for $300 is ridiculous.
Not very exciting but if I had the $3,000 I would pay for the new garage door that I just ordered. Miro, I always enjoy watching your videos. You are absolutely adorable and pleasant. 🤗
That is still a good and very useful way to spend that money. Certainly better than plants (which I do love to death). Thank you Ava, glad you're having a good time 💚
Yikes. I’m too cheap for this ish. I often wonder how many carnosas people can have. Silver hoyas are gorg, don’t get me wrong. But I would rather have MOAR HOYA than pay so much for one. The video game sound gave me life btw. Am I done commenting? Maybe, maybe not 😂
😂 Well, that is good for you! You got them when the prices were good :D I mean, even AH074 was quite reasonably priced not so long ago. But alas, the market changes, apparently with every minute.
Im not into hoya compacta as well 🙈 with 3k euros I would save it and probably go on a trip to Japan or something when the whole global situation is over.
With so many people selling Hoyas on FB, Etsy, eBay, and other sites, at some point the market will be flooded, the plant hoarding frenzy will stop and these exorbitant prices will start to drop.
Yes, that is true. The questions is, when will that happen? And will people who purchase a cutting for $100 later sell it for $20? Who knows. I think we are still going to see some increase in prices.

I’ve got a 13 dollar krimson princess in 8” pot. It’s huge. It was cheap. It’s easy care. Win win.
I hear that
I love you 😍 you are so funny 🤣 happy new year !
Thank you for that nice comment! Happy New Year to you as well 🥳
Undulata is fairly cheap here maybe because it's our native plant 😅nurseries here also propagate undulata like crazy since the price is slowly increasing in domestic market (and surely way more expensive when it comes to export). but well rooted plant with 1 node 2 leaves normally costs less than 15 usd.
Hi Miro, I enjoyed your video and got a lot of chuckles . Thank you and have a wonderful and safe new year! Cheers :)
Glad it made you smile :D Happy New Year to you as well!
A lot of them are so underappreciated! But I like it that way, it means I can (still) afford them.
Here’s hoping prices come back down eventually. And yes, I did laugh watching this today! Thanks
I am sure they will. Hopefully, this year. But, I wouldn't hold my breath 😂 Thank you for watching! :)
Miro (spelling sorry) I just love your channel! I must say some of the other people’s videos put me to sleep. I rally enjoy yours👍keep going😊
Thank you 💚 I appreciate that!
You shoulda worn shades for your shade. 😂 But I love the new glasses.
Oh, I broke my shades! Sadly. Another glass purchase I need to make 😂
Thank you Miro. Might be good too if you have a video on hoyas in your collection and what we should expect to pay
That sounds like a good idea! I don't know the prices for all of them as some were received in a bundle, and they changed a lot. But it could be good to compare them to what they were and to how much they cost now.
Brilliant, a real artist Miro Thank you 💕
The artist thanks you very much for that kind comment. 😂💚
Your videos crack me up so much! Love the non-specific hand motions to describe the crazy H. carnosa compacta!! (P.s. I completely agree)
That's what happens when you're at the loss for words. xD
And also - Happy New Year! :)
this was SO FUN, love you! and it would totally buy a golden clarinet with Swarovski buttons
I once tried to learn how to play a clarinet. How the heck do you get a sound out of it?! It wouldn't even make a peep for me.
@@BasiePlants you actually play this instrument because you want to suffer (or you dad wants you to entry the church musicians)
@@karatefishman It all makes sense now 😂
I'm here for your shady hoya chat 😉💗
Well, tbh, they deserved it. 😂
I've been wanting a H. Mathilde sooo badly!! I'm just waiting for them to come down to my price range. I think I'd go on vacation for that $3000!
Vacation is a great idea! Once the world stops ending 🙃 'Mathilde' is so cheap in Europe!
I love the compacta!! I'd love another one!!
Many people do :D I think there are more interesting ones out there :)
I live for the sarcasm in this video
On the other hand, I died because of the prices. 👁👄👁
And I’m crying every time someone buys a wet stick for 50 or 70 eur…
I saw offers with grey ghost for 50-70 in early 2022, so probably prices are going down again 😆
I love your channel!! ❤️
You are soo funny. The best plant tuber 💚🌿
You are way too sweet 😭💚
With that much money I'd buy a gaming PC or more camera equipment. :D
You could probably get both 😂 Which says a lot.
Miro I would LOVE an updated version in 2022 🤭
I just love your ‘SHADY’ comments😉😉. I just love watching your video.
Well, if people can demand such prices for these cuttings, I guess we can shade them a bit. 👀
Gosh! Those prices are over the top...here in the USA cuttings are abundant you can find cuttings @ $2-$6 per cutting
What a great video thanks Miro... 👍👍👍😂😍
I am glad you liked it! :D
Yes! It’s insane how much the price in the market these days...simply bec. Hoyas it becomes plants craze around the world...🇨🇦🪴☘️🌱💚
They are worse now xD Sadly.
😂😂😂 love your videos its getting more funny
Miro come to South Africa and you will be amazed how reasonable the Hoya prices are here. Compared to Europe!
Europe is nothing 😂 US hoya prices are insane!
Hs was a fun watch. Thank you for this nice (shady)share...lol😊😊 Happy New Year, My Friend.
Happy New Year! Glad you enjoyed it 😎
Would love to see a comparison with what prices are now…less then a year later and most of these are drastically higher!
They are drastically higher! Jody's silver is $2500 for a node, $4000 for 2 nodes right now. It was $300-600 6 months ago.
You are so funny. Thanks for making me laugh 😅
You def made me laugh 😂! I’d rather use 3000 euros for 100+ larger hoyas than just 10 hoyas with 1-2 leaves each 🙃🙃
I would buy A LOT of hoyas for 3000 euros 😂
Silver on leaves is an adaptation, so sun stressing would create more silver. It's a con, anyone can do it on a Hoya will silver specks.
Hoyas like Wilbur Graves do produce more silver under constant, even light, such as LED light. So it can vary greately. I am not sure what causes the silver in Grey Ghost, but it is an interesting topic for research.
💚💚💚❤
I dont think you have a Hoya problem 😉
I would probably buy some different Hoya's but with todays prices who knows.
I don't think I have a hoya problem either 👀 I will never admit to it. I would also prefer some other hoyas, thatr are not on this list.
Well, if you listen carefully, I think it's clear I paid half as much as the lowest price I found. So, around 50 euros. 😉
The more I watch your videos the more I like you. haha. But seriously these prices are getting out of hand, not worth it.
Haha 😂 Well, I am glad you feel that way! I agree, prices are getting out of hand for sure.
Soooo meaaannnn . I like it.
And only variegated ones count. More “regular “ ones for me. I don’t have the sun anyway and they bloom easier.
Honest! 😂 I could never be mean 👀 Well, I wouldn't want other hoyas to have higher price, so I am glad it's only for the silver ones. They can have those.
Miro please do a video on spider mites on hoyas ie how you noticed and what you did
I will definitely have to! I should do a preventative treatment soon too 😂
Hahaha I love your tude towards silver hahaha cracks me up
Jody’s silver cuttings now sell for multiple thousands of dollars in the USA
Loved your analysis...2650 USD is big lot of money..
I agree!
Wow I just purchased a small Hoya Mathilde Splash for $20 Aus dollers in Australia which isn't bad as I've heard it's fast grower so in theory, my plant will get to a decent size in the next year.
You can count yourself lucky! They are much pricier in Europe these days.
Makes one think hey before they purchase from the shady list 🤔😂🤦♀️
Happy new year x
I mean, I have one from the shady list that I purchased. For far less money that it is now, but still. Shading myself here as well 😂 Happy New Year!
How about hoya spartoides? How do you feel about that? A cutitmg is sold for $200-$300 here in the US. It just looks like sticks to me. Lol
Well, you are not far from it being a stick. It's a stick I like though 😂 $300 though? That hoya was WAAAAAAY cheaper. 😩
Hi. What induces more splash in Wilbur graves - shade or sun?
It seems that more light does it.
@@BasiePlantsOther than one month rent at NYC one can start a sizeable plant collection with that kind of money!
@@samias_jungle Especially if you get a good deal on the rent :D
Lol in my area, there are a lot of people who propagate these rare hoyas and sell them on facebook marketplace for high amounts of $, I think some do it for a living, but to see a picture of a plant with one leaf in a little plastic cup for $300 is ridiculous.
PUT THEM ON MY LIST!
😂 If I had these, I would GLADLY gift them to you.
Thank you Ava, glad you're having a good time 💚
hoya gunung gading is a pricey hoya, but I think it might be worth it!
Love this.
Glad you enjoyed it! :D
Yikes. I’m too cheap for this ish. I often wonder how many carnosas people can have. Silver hoyas are gorg, don’t get me wrong. But I would rather have MOAR HOYA than pay so much for one. The video game sound gave me life btw. Am I done commenting? Maybe, maybe not 😂
I will just take a regular carnosa, squint a bit, envision grey leaves and done. I am also too cheap for any of those. 😂
@@BasiePlants The photoshop bit cracked me up 🤣 Or do me- paint the room white and don't cover your plants. I have beautiful white splash orchids now.
@@TheOrchidRoom how much for them Annabel? $100? $200? 👀
When you have most of these hoya... thank god I didn't pay anywhere near the prices that were quoted. The plant cost hike will come down eventually.
😂 Well, that is good for you! You got them when the prices were good :D I mean, even AH074 was quite reasonably priced not so long ago. But alas, the market changes, apparently with every minute.
I think I'll take that tiara 😆 👑
Please don't take my tiara though! 😂
I totally agree 🤣🌱
It was worth to buy all of them before prices jumped that high :D
I am sure some people made lots of money that way :)
@@BasiePlants I am sure too. These are stubborn plants I am often worried to cut them 😬
I Soooo agree about Hoya compacta!! Regret buying mine. Bug magnet!!!
Mine hasn't been as much but still pretty weird
Im not into hoya compacta as well 🙈 with 3k euros I would save it and probably go on a trip to Japan or something when the whole global situation is over.
That H.compacta is now $2500 for one node cutting :)
You forgot 'Silver Dollar', which would about be the topmost on this list.
It was different price then :D Most of these prices have increased more than twice since I made this video.
@@BasiePlants True. Wilder than stock charts!
This had me laughing out loud! With my saved $3000 I would add to my Native American jewelry collection and get more plants.
💚
Saya bukan penggemar hoya dan belum punya satupun hoya. Ita ok mgkn bagi collectors hoya harga segitu sebanding dengan kesenangan yang mereka peroleh.
I am not sure. Some hoyas I looked at in 2019 were $20, and in 2020 were over $130. I wouldn't say the price jump is justified.
