I'm sorry about your break-up. This channel will definitely keep you busy. It's very refreshing to see a booktuber interested in what some might call "obscure" genres. So many others are focused on the trending topics. Your bible pull out is amazing! Here's to a great year ahead of you!
Great reading list. You are a cool, energetic and beautiful woman. Relating to your comment that you are an older booktuber, please do not stress about it. It is so refreshing to see a different style and a mature point a vew. I hate to see women becomming invisible to society after a certain age.
Hello from Scotland 👋. You're very funny! Made me laugh a couple times. Also, you seem very intelligent and I'm looking forward to seeing your channel grow. Take care 🙂 xx
The Bible Project. I’ve not read most of the books on your list! Love the fact that you’re dealing with the books on your shel with no (real) embarrassment or guilt or shame. You’re just you and honest and transparent. Thank you! It’s refreshing. I have an audible account and Streisand reads her autobiography. Haven’t started listening yet. It’s over 48 hours, but I’m excited about it.
Ahh, (& also yes) I have just purchased Emily Wilson's verse translations of 'The Iliad' & 'The Odyssey'. Can't wait to read them. I've always loved the Robert Fagels verse translations so, am nervous, but I'm sure I'm in safe hands. Wilson interviews so well. She sounds amazing.
Frankenstein is so good. Don't worry about not getting to books just because others have read them. There are so many books out there and none of us can read them all at once. I like to read books a year or two after everyone for two reasons: 1. You can get it cheaper or if your getting it from the library, you don't have to wait and then hurry to get it back for someone else. 2. Everyone talks so much about new releases that I feel like I have read it already. By the time I get to them, I have forgotten what they are about. Don't be embarrassed, just enjoy the books.
Great video, I definitely added some books to my TBR. And don't worry, you're not the only one "late to the party" on many of these. I'm right there with you. I will say that "Eating Dirt" is FANTASTIC. It's a book that I could read every year. I hope you enjoy all the books you've picked for your TBR this year!
What a wide variety of books you already own that you're planning to read in 2024. Excellent! My two favorites of those are "Meditations" and "Atomic Habits". I read "Meditations" about once a year - a little bit at a time throughout the year. You can also get a more condensed version by different translators which makes it really easy to digest. Putting the ideas of "Atomic Habits" to work has improved my life more than any book I've read in years. You're going to enjoy this year. Can't wait to hear your report on "The Iliad". I haven't read it yet.
Love your glasses! I’ve heard Jesus and John Wayne is absolutely fantastic. I want to read that one myself. I’ve had The Crimson Petal on my shelves for so long!
What an amazing collection of literature! I’m particularly interested in hearing your reviews of your nonfiction books. I would like to read more nonfiction this year and your books sound very interesting. Enjoy!
Hi ⭐️ Watching from Bornholm, a danish island in the Baltic Sea. I’m currently reading a crime novel by Jussi Adler Olsen. It’s a series of 10 books. I got nr. 10 for Christmas and now I’m reading nr. 9 because I can’t remember a single word 😁 I’m really glad that you’re reading so many different kind of books, it’ll be a great inspiration 🐼 Sarah
Jesus and John Wayne is sooo good! I'm excited that you're reading it! So many good books on this list and it gave me some good ideas for future reads.
You dont need to feel ashamed for not reading certain books.❤ Frankenstein is really good, if you havent i would also sujest dracula by bram stoker the atmosphere and the changing perspectives make it interesting. If you like classics i really like the canterbury classic leather bound editions.
All good, no actual shame!! I read Dracula in the 90s and I agree it was very intriguing, I still recall it to this day. There a copy of Canterbury on my local thrift store shelf….should I get it?? It’s a world Oxford edition.
I will literally riot if you don’t post a lot 😂 this is all so relatable to see someone my age and who looks like me reading interesting and relevant books. The Bible!? I’m listening to it on an app called Dwell in a year too! Can’t wait to see what’s next….. no pressure 🤓☕️
😂😂😂 Awww thanks so much and I’ll post more for sure!! ❤️❤️ (And let me know how listening to the bible is working for you. I have hard enough concentrating on an easy novel on audio let alone an epic such as the bible!! 🐿️)
I love Dwell specifically because it is done in such a relaxed way. To music, and you can choose a speaking voice preference. Now if you are strictly diving in from a theological perspective this may not be your jam. Hardcore study with notes and concordances are a whole different ball of wax. I love the way you are doing it so thoroughly and the idea of the pop out page! I’ve watched those UA-cam short videos and didn’t know you could print that out! Good to have a small overview at the beginning visually! Loving your channel ❤ 👍 keep it up
I'm enthusiastic about this channel! I'm recently retired and really looking forward to getting back into reading for pleasure. I can see this going really far as a community. Thank you for this!
I just got back into reading! I have been raising triplets. They are seniors this year so I have decided to get back into it. Reading is my favorite hobby and I have a lot of catching up to do. I have a lot of the same reads on my list. I also want to read more classics.
Welcome and thank you for creating your channel albeit in the time of a crisis. It’s great to see more channels by people who read more than YA! I’ve added several of the books from your list to my own. The Bible is my favorite book. Jane Eyre you will enjoy. There were several popular books that you mentioned and said that you all know what this is about. Don’t make that assumption, because there are those us who like you have not read those books either. I was excited about your last book! I have Barbra on my tbr but I’m going to audiobook it first. Again thank you for sharing . I wish you the best and I’ll see you in the next video. 😊
Hi Lisa! Dont let Jane Eyre scare you,the way Charlotte Bronte wrote(she is my favorite of the Bronte sisters) we can relate today and i love Jane and Mr Rochester... I am a moodreader myself and all over the place in genres like cozy fantasy, the bible(i am 46 and just found the bible),memoirs, history, poetry like Mary Oliver and other things🤗😉. Have you read these authors? TL Huchu? TJ Klunes book "The house in the cerulian sea"? "Eat,pray, love" by Elizabeth Gilbert? Katherine May "Wintering"? "This i know" by Susannah conway?"The wound makes the medicine" by Pixie Lighthorse? Sorry for bombarding you with book titles💖🙏🫂🫖🍵Warmest of hugs coming your way🥰
I loved the variety of your list. If I may make a suggestion: don’t assume everybody knows what the books are about, I am not in North America and I don’t follow a lot of book tubers so most of the books you listed that were not classics were new to me. Maybe a little plot introduction for people like me? Having said that, I love seeing you putting yourself out there, it’s inspiring!
Well..I added 3 books to my thrift books list😢..looking forward to some new reads. I am 61; been through menopause..have no knowledge of what is happening to my body! Lord help me. Love the channel.
Already loving your channel and diverse reading taste. So sorry to hear about your break up. As someone who has only ever dated older guys. I totally understand. The right one is out there I'm sure xxx
I haven't read Song of Achilles yet. I fell for the Booktok trap and read a Colleen Hoover and 7 husbands and that's why Song of Achilles is collecting dust. But it's on my 2024 tbr list so i'll give it a tty. Don't get the hype for 7 husbands.
@@hopep1334 I would highly recommend not to. It was one of the worst books I've ever read. I read all kinds of genres. From classics, thrillers and romance and everything in between, but I'll never touch a CH book again.
Enjoyed this so much. This was my early morning inspiring video of choice to watch while having my coffee. Have certainly added some to my reading list. looking forward to your next video.
Definitely picking up some books from your list. And, I'm also guilty of not having read popular books everyone has already read😂 By the way, Journaling Bible looks great with your notes!
I’m so excited to find your channel! You are the first Booktuber that I am subscribing to. I recently found out that Booktube is a “thing”, but when I went to find channels to subscribe to I found silly 20 year olds reading YA books that I’m not really interested in. I wanted to find someone close to my age and I found you! I can tell that some of the reviews on the books you will be reading this year will be challenging to me and if I read them too, will expand my literary horizons. I am looking forward to making the journey with you! Love, from North Texas!
How great to discover you! Older single mum here too who finds books much more comforting than men. :) Just added heaps to my library list and wish list. Eve and Outlive top of the list. Thank you for introducing me to them.
Oh Michel Faber! I read this around 2005-2006 when it came out in French (girl from Quebec CIty here! 🙋🏻♀️). My husband and I both loved it which doesn’t happen that often so I hope you like it. I’m also late to the party with Evelyn and her 7 husbands! 😬
Great list! The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo is one of my favourite books, I hope you enjoy it & don't worry I still haven't gotten around to The Song of Achilles either, I'm also hoping to read it this year. I had a great time with Atomic Habits too 😁
What a wonderfully eclectic collection of TBR's - I read Frankenstein in December and it was my best read of the year . Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on your selections
Great list! I love getting non fiction recommendations. I can read them alongside fiction books and having two specific books on the go, for me, is the solution to putting a book down and forgetting to pick it back up.
What an awesome back list! Lots of good reads! I’m curious,if you don’t mind sharing, and I may have missed it but what is your profession….I’m just a curious person, lol
Such an interesting collection, I look forward to hearing how you liked these books. I just read Jane Eyre for the first time earlier in the month, enjoy 😉 I'm also reading Mary Shelley's other books, I read Frankenstein a couple of years ago. I love her writing. Great picks, I definitely added many of the to my TBR.
That’s quite an impressive stack of books. I admit the only one that I’ve read is _Frankenstein._ If you are ever looking for a respite from those heavy and intense books, I can recommend a funny essay collection by a Canadian author - _Urban Scrawl_ (1984) by Erika Ritter. I bought it in a Toronto bookstore in 1986 and it had me laughing on the bus back to Owen Sound. I like to return to it now and then.
Im also planning on reading the Iliad as well as the Odyssey this year. I read the song of Achilles a while ago and absolutely loved it, so im excited to see your opinion on it.
Great video…thanks! Lots of good recommendations and ideas! Haven’t heard Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance mentioned for years 👍. Read it in the 70’s and will give it a reread thanks to this reminder…it was brilliant then and so trendy 🤣. Who’s Heather please? She seems to be the main ‘picker’ on the books. Is this a local bookshop owner? Loving the range of your selections. Thanks again and wishing you all the best 👍.
Controversial debate but I preferred the marriage portrait to Hamnet .. the ending of Hamnet aggravated me and the ending of the marriage portrait didn’t so for me it won over it 😂 , Jane Eyre is wonderful ( I think you will love it ) and if you haven’t seen movies or much about it , it won’t be anything you think it is , it was so surprising and I loved it. The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo is fab especially if you love old Hollywood and its one I really enjoyed , Frankenstein i know a lot of people adored it however for me , I didn’t love it because I felt a good part of it became very slow paced for me but it definitely deserves its classic title for a reason , it’s hard to believe a 19 year old young woman wrote it so long ago.
You have some interesting books on your list. Jane Eyre is one of my favourites. i also think that is great that you are reading the bible because it is so foundational to society and literature. I have just finished the Crimson Petal and the White and it was very good although there was a period in the middle that i struggled to get through. I will be interested to hear what you think.
You have such a great list of books to look forward to in 2024! I also have the Emily Watson version of The Iliad and I have seen that it should be read before The Odyssey because that is how the timeline of events actually goes (as you alluded to). The Song of Achilles can absolutely be read independently and it is fabulous! The writing is incredible and the reimagining of the story is terrific. I love your Bible journaling. I try to do that but I love how artistic you are and can make your Bible so uniquely your own. I feel like I highlight some things that stand out or occasionally take notes but it still feels basic. I have never heard of The Crimson Petal and the White. I am intrigued! I might have to add that one to the TBR. Great video!
Did you ever read Barbra Streisand's book? I got it from the library and have been reading it for a month now. I like it. It's due back at the library next week and I'm sure I can finish it by then.
I was very excited for your content after the introduction video, and this book list just proves it 🙌 Very interested to hear your thoughts on "The Crimson Petal and the White". I read it years ago (sometime before 2015) and remember nothing of it... ? I also have Frankenstein, most Jane Austen books, and the Iliad in my TBR, and would like to finish Meditations. Might pick up the Madonna biography as well if you enjoy it.
Jesus & John Wayne is fantastic. I haven't finished it yet but I'm about 1/2 way through & it's phenomenal. I have lived my whole 43 years in TX, was extremely conservative for most of my life, and have been an evangelical since birth. In the last 3-4 years, I have been changing my views a LOT. I no longer consider myself conservative & I have serious issues with evangelicalism (although I am still a strong Christian). I cannot say enough positive things about Jesus & John Wayne. I haven't finished Frankenstein either.
I'm new to your channel. Love so many of your tbr reads. Some I've read, many I haven't. I did read Jesus and John Wayne. As a fellow (Genx) Canadian, I found it fascinating partly because of how much of American church culture is so influential here. A great follow up, cause you obviously need more book recs, is The Making of Biblical Womanhood by Beth Allison Barr.
Yayyy Lisa I loved this video, definitely picked up a few books to add to my tbr! All your nonfiction picks look fascinating 😍 I have the same Emily Wilson copy of the Odyssey and really enjoyed it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on her translation of The Iliad when you get to it 🧡
Steve Donoghue does a great series called The Western Canon Started Kit. He explains what books of the Bible are critical as they influence so much of the literature that has stood the test of time. So, you don't have to read the whole thing unless you are so inclined.
If it could be on any comfort, I also have Jane Eyre on my TBR pile and I am in my 50s... though I read the 7 husbands of EH 😉. In fact, I am a bit late with the English classics (more familiar with the French ones) I love your pile and I took some notes, like Jesus and John Wayne, the organized mind and the one by Regan Penaluna.
I want to read about Barbara also, I got it from the library, but didn't realize how big it was, plus the print is tall small for me. I had to return it. I rather listen to it, she narrates it herself my library had it, but they only let you have it for 14 days, so I have to wait until I am dedicated to listen to it, or wait till it comes on Everand/Scribd that I belong to. I read Seven Husbands for Evelyn Hugo, I didn't care for it, didn't understand what all the hype was about. You are not last to read some of your books, I haven't read some of them either, but not sure if I want to.
Ah, that is a good idea for tackling Barbra, I will also borrow the audio book from my library when I am ready to take it on. Thanks again for watching!
Speaking of Song of Achilles, The Iliad, and The Odyssey - have you read Circe? I read it this month and it was unlike anything I’ve ever read. I hope you’ve read it, or will add it to that collection 🧡 I look forward to hearing your updates on these 24! 📚
If you want to listen along to Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre while you read, check out the Marilyn Lightstone Reads podcast. She was Miss Stacey in the 1985 Anne Of Green Gables (aka the real AofGG) and she's fabulous. I've listened to her read AofGG three times. So far.
After reading Homer's works, I highly recommend listening to A Thousand Ships by Natalie Haynes . She is a classicist, but also a former stand up comedian, and it's a joy to hear her snark coming through some of the women so minimized in the classics. I listen to all the classics while reading them. It helps me stay focused and increases my reading time, which has always been a little slow. I haven't read Song of Achilles either, but instead Pat Barker's, The Silence of the Girls. So glad I found you. Looking forward to more fun videos.

What an awesome back list! Lots of good reads! I’m curious,if you don’t mind sharing, and I may have missed it but what is your profession….I’m just a curious person, lol
Great list! I have a few late-to-the-party classics I'm hoping to tackle this year. Looking forward to your future videos :)
How can you not be a Barbra fan? That voice is amazing.
I am! I purchased her memoir and am looking forward to learning more about her and her amazing career. 💗
The crimson petal and the white is a wonderful read. Love your videos 😊
Jesus and John Wayne is good. I'm reading the 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I started over 6 months ago and stopped because I got busy.
Hey hey, I’m Canadian too! (Toronto by way of Winnipeg) Hockey and poutine and all that stuff 😄
Yay Canada!! Glad you found me! I'm in Vancouver so here it's all about rain rain rain at least right now anyway!
I admit the only one that I’ve read is _Frankenstein._
If you are ever looking for a respite from those heavy and intense books, I can recommend a funny essay collection by a Canadian author - _Urban Scrawl_ (1984) by Erika Ritter. I bought it in a Toronto bookstore in 1986 and it had me laughing on the bus back to Owen Sound. I like to return to it now and then.
I think I’ve heard of that, I will check it out! 😀📚
Im also planning on reading the Iliad as well as the Odyssey this year. I read the song of Achilles a while ago and absolutely loved it, so im excited to see your opinion on it.
That’s so great!! I’m looking g forward to finally finishing it! ❤️📚
Your videos are good. What a great list.
Glad you like them!
You have some great non-fiction picks. I've added a few of them to my TBR.
Awesome!! 📚
Wow, I'm fascinated by your tabs to organize your nonfiction reading. I bet that really helps with comprehension and retention.
It's a great tip for sure!! Give it a try!🤗
Yeah I'm very intrigued but I'm also very lazy.😆 @@TheUnhingedWomanBookClub
Thanks for watching! I’ll do a closer video on my journaling bible as a few people have asked!💕📚
I’m reading “the mountain is you” right now!! It’s my first one by this author and I’m LOVING it!
She is AMAZING, especially her essay collection “100 essays to change the way you think” you’d really like it 📚❤️
Did you ever read Barbra Streisand's book? I got it from the library and have been reading it for a month now. I like it. It's due back at the library next week and I'm sure I can finish it by then.
Marcus Aurelius 🎉
🖤💚Great TBR
Thank you! 📚❤️
Aww thanks so much for watching and I’ll for sure do updates as I work my way through this pile!! ❤️📚
It is a fascinating subject and I need to finish reading it!! Thanks so much for watching! 😍
I just finished Jesus and John Wayne. It was eye opening 😮
👀😅
I just finished Jane Eyre today! Definitely 5 stars!
Wow!! So great to hear!! 📚❤️📚
Yayyy Lisa I loved this video, definitely picked up a few books to add to my tbr! All your nonfiction picks look fascinating 😍 I have the same Emily Wilson copy of the Odyssey and really enjoyed it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on her translation of The Iliad when you get to it 🧡
I will for sure!! ❤️
Steve Donoghue does a great series called The Western Canon Started Kit. He explains what books of the Bible are critical as they influence so much of the literature that has stood the test of time. So, you don't have to read the whole thing unless you are so inclined.
Now it’s just a matter of deciding which one to read next! 😄
Always the toughest part!!!❤
If it could be on any comfort, I also have Jane Eyre on my TBR pile and I am in my 50s... though I read the 7 husbands of EH 😉. In fact, I am a bit late with the English classics (more familiar with the French ones)
I love your pile and I took some notes, like Jesus and John Wayne, the organized mind and the one by Regan Penaluna.
Oh Evelyn, I need to read about her soon!! Thanks so much for watching and I hope you find some picks that you may like! 💓
Currently reading The Guest ❤
I can't wait to read it myself!! 💗
I want to read about Barbara also, I got it from the library, but didn't realize how big it was, plus the print is tall small for me. I had to return it. I rather listen to it, she narrates it herself
my library had it, but they only let you have it for 14 days, so I have to wait until I am dedicated to listen to it, or wait till it comes on Everand/Scribd that I belong to. I read
Seven Husbands for Evelyn Hugo, I didn't care for it, didn't understand what all the hype
was about. You are not last to read some of your books, I haven't read some of them either,
but not sure if I want to.
I have heard of that too but have been interested in it as well! 😊
Well I read quite a bit and I've read none of your list 🤗 will definitely be looking some up
Awesome! Thanks for watching! 💞
So far.
I’ll check it out!
I'm currently reading "the marriage portrait" ❤
Ooooh sweet!!! Ugh I need to get to this! ❤️📚
I started Jesus and John Wayne a few days go also!
Sweet!! 🎉
Great list! I'm starting to feel sorry for the guy who let you get away. What was he thinking?
Awww!! Haha thanks so much! ❤️
I still haven’t read The seven husbands of Evelyn Hugo either it’s on my list. I’ve been reading a lot of great books under 300 pages lately
Awesome keep up the reading!!
Jesus and john wayne is such a good it would pair nicely with the cross and the lynching tree i think i cant remember the authors name.
Aww thanks for watching and I'll make a note of these!!
Don’t bend corners Please
Such a great list, I'm sure you will have fun reading all those. And I love Jen Gunter, I follow her on IG as well.
