One of the best parts about the journey of playing fighters is looking back. Things that seemed impossible before are second nature now. It's really fulfilling.
My gifycat account is filled with the "new flashy combo" I learned at the time. Its really fun going back and going "man i thought THAT was optimal? its almost like a Combo Journal
I remember when I was a wee little lass trying to play 3rd strike, not understanding that you have to hold a direction for charge inputs, and not knowing how to jump at all, haha I absolutely adore how much learning there is in fighting games. You’re always progressing and getting better. It’s my favourite thing ever.
I think one of the best things to help learn fighting games is using methods from learning previous games and understanding how similar they are to other other. I'd compare FG's to an FPS's on various degrees. My main method of learning is playing a little bit to understand the very minimum such at controls and then binging a ton of footage to then apply what I learned later. I fondly remember doing this with Rainbow Six Siege for example of something other than an FG. After time the information sinks in and you can easily feel self progression even if it's small.
The last new thing I started doing that really helped me to improve a lot was focusing first on the defensive options the game offers. It really helps a lot to quickly understand why I'm getting bodied and stop it asap. Also, since defensive options are always a lot less than offensive options, it has helped me to break into a variety of games at a time and play at least decently in most of them.
When I first started playing +R I kept trying to press Ky 2D as an anti-air. I still suck at AAing but I'm much better now. I was just playing a set against a newbie Faust recently and I managed to unthinkingly AA one of his drills on reaction, which I'd never have been able to do a few months ago.
Looking back and seeing how much progress i have made since i started is a huge motivator. me from 4 years ago would never have thought i would have made it to Losers finals in +R today. (losers finals sounds much better than going 3-2 in a 6 man event LMAO)
I can never get out of stage 1 because I can't decide on what character I want to play. It's especially bad in the guilty gear games because the whole roster is so cool. I've only been playing a few months so I'm not too worried but I feel like I'd be a lot better if I just stuck to one
It takes time! I have that same problem in street fighter. I hop characters almost every month. It does hold you back but once you settle on one the learning becomes a lot easier because it's fun!
I am at the middle stage atm because I couldn‘t find a FG with Rollback that is not dead. But now with GGST, I am on my way to the top🔥If somebody wanna play on ps4 or PC, just dm me✌️
Fighting games are so cool because YOU see your growth on your own terms. It’s not like other games where higher stats/exp/levels are spoon-feeding you growth. You earn your stripes!
I'm trying to get into fighting games (I'm starting with GG on PSX) and I'm unable to even activate Dragon Install lol. But, at the very least I'm still new and just picked it up, so I'm not going to just execute moves flawlessly, but that initial hurdle is definetly there, great video to encourage people to not just give up when getting into a new fighting game!
That's totally okay! Drops and misinputs are always going to happen no matter how good you get. Execution is a a learned skill that takes a long time to perfect. Just keep at it :)
I remember back when i could barelly do a DBFZ BnB combo. now I know how to do zamasu tic throws and game ending ToDs. fighting games are pure Joy when you master a combo
@@Proxic0n yeah, but that's just the fighting game discourse these days. Same with the conversation about less character tools decreasing "decision making". ofc you have less options to pick from, but does this mean boxers are thinking less than mma fighters in the ring? If that were the case, they would be more successful in the boxing right, yet they almost always end up with a losing record when making the transition from mma to boxing, despite it being a "more simple" sport. If you check the reverse, boxers have made some of the most successful mma fighters (Holly for instance), and not just for physical reasons. Having less options in a rule set that is balanced (as in, one without some broken optimal strategy) results in more nuanced and creative decision making/styles. Things like timing, rhythm, feints, yomi, conditioning, footwork/footsies ect. become way more important and integral to your strategy, and your personality is arguably the most important thing in dictating those aspects as a fighter/player. But *somehow* a certain upcoming video game is stifling our player expression by highlighting those aspects. Go figure. Mb if this came off as a rant.
i can actually think about different games I've played and I can recognize the three stages in all of them, I've never made it past stage 1 in a fighter but hopefully i'll be able to stick with it in strive. nice vid
That last part made me she'd a tear in being proud for all the work I and I'm sure others have put in into everything they do. Also I'm not subscribing to and pot player. Jk good vid.
As somebody else who made it to floor 10 pretty quickly in Strive, my alternate tales of being dropped to floor 8 by the end of the beta and never getting a whiff of Heaven seems pretty in line with the new game entitlement. Haven't finished the video yet, but I'll be watching the rest with rapt attention.
I'm starting to learn skullgirls 2nd encore and so far I cannot beat a single player online, I keep getting decimated by these long inescapable combos but I'm still hopeful 😓😅
I dont know what it is but the script, music, and video editing hit better than usual this time. I think this was really well made and a very interesting watch! Definitely makes fighting games a little less scary/annoying to learn, personally
@@Proxic0n reall talk I agree I sed as a joke cause I don't find myself particularly funny or Talanted in editing. But my I find my favorite fgc guys are meme lords and feel thas the best way to show my love of the genre that can be communicated to outsiders.

It really is, I look back at late 2019 when I could barely MOVE in a fighting game purposefully and see where I am now. Feelsgoodman

Yoo I think the same way. I was toying around with using CSGO as an example for some of the stuff in here but ultimately decided against it
