    Being from florida, I always admired Kelly. I didn’t grow up beachside and had to trudge my way through the hoods only to get beat up at my local beach as a teen. Doing my best to follow Christ, eating healthy, and living in harmony with others has kept me surfing and training martial arts at 34.

    Love how Kelly mentioned that Mercola said if you want to know if you function better on protein or carbs, eat a big meal of one or the other see whether you feel tired or not. That's a great test. I would say, tweak the carbs to be whole plant foods, not crap flour, french fries etc. It's clear for me, I feel way better on a WHOLE plant food diet with a lot of raw greens and fruit, and terrible on protein. But my daughter is the opposite. Nutrition needs are individual. I love this test though, says a lot.

    • @willzinc6137
      @willzinc6137 Рік тому +3

      Good point, but I think this test might need to extend over several days or a couple of weeks. Hard to know for sure after one meal since other things could be happening in a given day.

    Over 20 years as an ICU nurse at a level 1 trauma center. The most important lesson that I have learned - modern medicine does not have all the answers. Infections, broken bones, supporting someone after a catastrophic illness/trauma, YES. Quality of life, NO.

      Thanks for your insight on how the medical paradigm works. Fortunately, it is there to save lives after accidents and traumas, and even prolong lives when illness from poor lifestyle choices and other diseases require medication and other interventions. You are totally correct, focusing on true health is the only way that we can ensure quality of life. All the very best 🙏😀

    Surfing really helps keep me fit. When i am Surfing I can eat a lot and feel energetic and great.But I have a lot of physical injuries and they act up on me to often. If I am not in the water I start gaining weight and just slowly going down hill, physical. I can feel it for sure and I know literally nothing about deit .I am 66 and stretch and exercise Just to keep going and get back in the water again cause when I am I tend to feel great . But I really need to learn how to stay healthy when I am not Surfing. Kelly teach us , I know everyone is different but there has to be basic truths. I cut my foot on the reef this year really badly and still not back into the water and I am feeling it

      You echoed my experience exactly. When I'm in the water and away from home, I'm healthier and just feel better all around. After I retired from the Air Force I gave myself a gift by surfing in Costa Rica for an entire month. When I came back home my friends were amazed at my change. I'll be 60 in October.

      Thanks for relating your story mate. It’s definitely challenging maintaining our fitness when we are obliged to be out of the water. These are the times that diet is even more important. Always look for the opportunity to practice whatever exercise you can, whether it be swimming, walking, stretching etc until you can get back in the water and derive your fitness from surfing again. Also, work with good professionals to help you with your aches and pains, chiropractors, physios, osteo’s, personal trainers, Massage Therapist, etc. Good luck with your journey and please feel free to reach out for advice any time.🔥

    • @jasongilbertofficial
      @jasongilbertofficial  Рік тому

      Thanks for your feedback. The scoliosis fact surprises a lot of people. Just goes to show that if you are active and take adequate care of your spine, scoliosis doesn’t have to cause symptoms. Good luck on your journey back towards health.

    • @jasongilbertofficial
      @jasongilbertofficial  Рік тому +1

      That hard part doesn’t have to be as hard as what you imagine.Start by introducing the positive things. Don’t worry about removing factors in your life that you know are negative or unhealthy if that is hard to get your head around, or even holding you back. Usually, when you start introducing healthy factors and influences into your life, you will naturally look at the unhealthy ones and remove them with time, as your health and function improves, and you are feeling more energetic and healthier. Good luck!

    • @jasongilbertofficial
      @jasongilbertofficial  Рік тому +1

      Good question! For people with diabetes, anything that elevates blood sugar levels, especially in a sudden manner, should be treated with caution. This can happen with fruit juice as it can also happen with sodas and fizzy drinks. Eating fruit though is always preferable over drinking it for this reason. Always consult with a good nutritionist, who can guide you towards the foods that will have less impact on your blood sugar level so that you can favour those over others containing refined sugar, corn syrup etc

    Found the proteins and fat but no carb idea interesting. I haven't heard that yet. Would Kelly ever eat that salmon/avo mixture (protein/fat) with the papaya (carb)? Pre-heat or otherwise? I find the extra carbs from fruit give me a bit more energy to last through the day (I also intermittent fast til about 11a and eat 90+% whole foods ).

    Love this kind of interview with Kelly. He has loads of great insight on how to live a healthy life. Unfortunately, the sound quality made it difficult to hear him clearly. Is there a version with better audio?

    You can definitely die suddenly b/c of many reasons, specially these days.
    That is why it is paramount to listen to your body and your instincts. Nobody knows better than yourself.
