this movie is definitely more “horror movie” than the original but Jeff Goldblum shines as Ian Malcom. you’re probably gonna love him even more here, though, most of the cast is a weird downgrade, I feel. they made him the sane straight man at the expense of everyone else not caring about life. any fear you might’ve had from the first movie is probably gonna disappear after the T-Rex appears cause the cast is asking for it.

    • @trekkiejunk
      @trekkiejunk Рік тому +6

Yeah, that's a very astute assessment. The lack of sufficient characterization can really drag down an otherwise good film, and that is definitely here. That said, i maintain the supporting cast in Lost World is better than the cast from the Jurassic World movies. Chris Pratt is just Blank Hero Man.

RIP Peter William Postlethwaite, OBE (7 February 1946 - 2 January 2011) was an English actor best known for his work as a character actor.
After minor television appearances including The Professionals, Postlethwaite's first major success arose through the British autobiographical film Distant Voices, Still Lives (1988). He had a breakthrough in Hollywood when he portrayed David in Alien 3 (1992) and his international reputation was further solidified when he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for In the Name of the Father. Following this role, he portrayed the mysterious lawyer Mr. Kobayashi in The Usual Suspects and went on to appear in a 70 films. Peace out

Oh, forgot to bring this up, in case you're curious about the Lysine Contingency plan was about or why it's literally the dumbest idea they ever did in the movie version: The cloned dinosaurs can't produce their own lysine, an essential Amino acid for living. However, the Dinosaurs survived because they ate lysine rich plants and the predators ate the herbivores. So, in short, they didn't do shit to prevent them from surviving on their own, because all these beasts have to do is eat! In the book, it was mentioned the scientists bioengineered the plants to make sure they had no Lysine to give to the herbivores. However, their check stops weren't strong enough, because blueberries managed to find its way to Isla Nublar. So, in the book, God is like "Play me, will you?!"
Some more Dinosaur facts to share, similar to my previous comment. Keep in mind that these facts may not be applicable to InGen's bioengineered creations. Tyrannosaurs potentially exhibited protective parenting behaviors and could lay a substantial number of eggs in a single clutch. However, they likely faced challenges in raising their offspring due to the threat of predators stealing eggs or young ones. Interestingly, they also displayed unexpected affection towards their mates. Though, the parenting behavior might fit well in this movie, hence why the Tyrannosaurs went out of their way to wreck their trailer and hunt down those hunters to make sure they can't mess with their baby.
Velociraptors, despite not being as large as commonly portrayed in Jurassic Park, are about the size of dogs, approximately the size of Drogo. However, they remain formidable predators capable of inflicting significant harm on a fully-grown human. Evidence suggests that Velociraptors did not exhibit a hierarchical pack system like wolves, but rather functioned more like a cooperative group of Komodo Dragons. They would collaborate to bring down larger prey and then compete amongst themselves for the shared meal. The incident where that guy was overwhelmed by a swarm of Compsognathus (Compies) serves as a compelling example of how small carnivores can pose a serious threat, making it an extremely harrowing experience. Picture a scenario akin to being surrounded by a horde of aggressive chickens pecking and tearing at your flesh while you desperately struggle, only for these tiny creatures to then squabble over the remains.
So, as J will put it, if anyone invites you or me to a Dinosaur Island: "NO" especially for these facts I brought up, and others that probably didn't need to be brought up.

And he drops some bars like true hunter doesn't mind if the animal winds. There was not enough escapes. go to my ranch take a look around my trophy room. And tell me what could possibly interest me.

I have though, Ian staying calming, or at least not freaking out, when the rex had her in the tent was the right call. Last thing you'd want to do is startle her. If her behavior is anything like modern predators, chances are she'd have realized they were not a threat and left.

A not so fun fact about the baby rex scene is that in a earlier deleted scene , Ludlow and Tembo were talking and drinking around it. While drunk, Ludlow trips and falls onto the baby rex's leg, causing the fracture. He then gets up angrily and starts kicking the poor thing. Tembo then points his rifle at Ludlow and calmly but furiously demanded him to stop. I guess having both barrels of a .600 nitro express rifle pointing at you is a serious deterrent.

The guy you kept asking what else you’ve seen him in is Pete Postlethwaite RIP He died in 2011 at 64 yrs old of pancreatic cancer. The main thing I know him from is “James and the Giant Peach” I always forget Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn are in this until I see them on screen. There’s a lot of good actors in this. I love Peter Stormare. You said he’s in Fargo, I haven’t seen that one I need to. He’s in Armageddon, American Gods, Longmire, & The Blacklist tv shows which are all awesome, 22 Jump Street & tons of other stuff. The dude pops up everywhere.

Prawns vs Shrimp. It’s not size as most think. Prawns are USUALLY fresh water and their body’s don’t curl as shrimp do. There are many other differences too, but if it’s tail is straight it almost certainly a prawn, if curled it’s almost certainly a shrimp.

    4:41 - It's a big shrimp.
6:00 - Okay, so first up, that scene with the little girl is actually form the original Jurassic Park novel, not the sequel. There ere several similar incidents described in the book and that's why Hammond needed experts to sign off on the island. Second, the original Lost World novel actually starred Alan Grant again, but for the movie they decided to bring Ian Malcom back instead.
16:10 - Well where you DON'T recognize him from is the scene that introduced him. That scene was unfortunately left on the cutting room floor. It's ABSOLUTELY worth a watch. ua-cam.com/video/raXWIDbugag/v-deo.html
23:49 - Nope. Roberta is still on Isla Nublar.
32:17 - So John Hammond didn't survive the original Jurassic Park novel. As they were escaping the island, Hamond tripped and twisted his ankle. The Compys got him. Turns out the Compys aren't scavengers. Their saliva has a soporific chemical in it and every small bite further sedates the victim until the pack can overwhelm their prey. That death was recreated here.
36:06 - "I know what's comin', but why's it comin'?" **Screen shows Sarah desperately shoving food into a ziplock bag.** "It's the blood, ain't it?"
38:14 - This is another scene that was cut out of the original book. After a river sequence that was cut from the movie entirely, Grant and the kids were chased by the T-Rex to a waterfall. They hid in an alcove behind the waterfall, but the T-Rex stuck his head in and tried to grab them with his tongue. Unlike here, though, he didn't manage to grab them.
45:20 - He lost his best friend on this trip, plus the idiocy of Ludlow's hired goons has left the majority of the expedition as dino-chow. He blames all of these deaths (rightly so) on Ludlow. Roland is low-key calling Ludlow a murderer.
45:35 - So the original Lost World novel took place completely on Isla Sorna. This sequence was added to movie so they could have a bigger action sequence with higher stakes.
    46:25 - You would have carried a T-rex 3,500 miles on a helicopter?
51:53 - Although the city part of this movie wasn't in the original book, this is still how Ludlow died. In the book, the T-Rex grabbed Ludlow by the leg and carried him back to it's nest in it's jaws. He then left Ludlow to be eaten by the three T-rex hatchlings that were in the nest. (I'm pretty sure that's where Disney got the end of A Bug's Life.)
52:18 - I've always loved that head-tilt on the T-Rex here. It's like it's saying "Awwww, Baby's first kill. So sweet!"
53:42 - The first story, actually. The original Jurassic Park had an entire aviary dedicated to pterosaurs, but it was left out of the movie aside from a mention that construction was incomplete. We'll see more of them in Jurassic Park 3 and Jurassic World.

Hey, Puggle💙...I have a suggestion for a little extra inspiration for you. Don't know if you're familiar with Stevie Ray Vaughan, who was one of the best (or the best imo) Blues guitarists in the world. But you might want to research him sometime.
His alcoholism & addiction nearly killed him & he didn't think he could overcome it. But he joined AA & threw himself into a 12 step program & achieved sobriety for the last 4 years of his life. Not only sobriety but real happiness along with it.
There are many videos of him performing & you can see the difference before & after. His playing was always great but you can see the difference in his health, attitude & demeanor.
If you watch any of his performances at The Mocambo or during the early 80's he didn't look well.
He came out of treatment in the fall of 1986 & remained sober right up till his death in a helicopter crash in August of 1989. At that time he was still going strong & even helping others to take that first real step toward sobriety.
Please note: When he came out of rehab he wrote a beautiful song called "Riviera Paradise", an instrumental, that he always dedicated to "anyone out there struggling" every time he performed it. The best video of it is when he performed it on the TV show called "Austin City Limits" in 1989. So many people love that song & the feeling Stevie put into it for others trying to get well. I hope you listen to it sometime. It's here on UA-cam. You might want to read some of the comments too.
He also wrote a couple other great songs about his struggles..one called "Life By The Drop" & another called "Tightrope".
One more thing..he was on "Austin City Limits" twice, in 1983 & 1989, before & after treatment. If you compare videos from those 2 appearances you can see how much healthier & happier he was the 2nd time.
I've heard people say it gives them hope & inspiration, especially if they've read about just how ill & hopeless he once was & how he felt if he could do it he knew others could & he always offered encouragement.
Btw, he also did "Tightrope" on that '89 Austin City Limits if you want to check that out too. And just to see how great his playing was, "Voodoo Child" is a good example. "Mary Had A Little Lamb" & "Couldn't Stand the Weather" are fun songs that show how in sync he & his bandmembers were. If you give them a listen, make sure they're the Austin City Limits '89 videos.
I don't know if you'd even like the music but his story is truly inspirational & has helped many people. And I do hope you check out "Riviera Paradise" at least. And read a bit about him & how he has helped others.
Dang, I didn't mean to write a whole letter. But when I heard what J said, I immediately thought of SRV (I've read a couple of biographies & various articles, plus I've always been a fan) & just wanted to pass along this information to you in hopes it might help at some point along the way.
Sending up a sincere prayer for you. And hoping that a bit later on we'll hear that you're back home with your family & kitty baby & doing well. Hugs & much love.

"The compies didn't look dangerous at first sight. They were the size of a hen and walked nervously like a hen. But he (John Hammond) knew that they were venomous. Their bites delivered a slow-acting poison that they used to kill wounded animals. small theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Triassic Period, about 222 to 219 million years ago. Procompsognathus was named by Eberhard Fraas in 1913. He named the type species, P. triassicus, on the basis of a poorly-preserved skeleton found in Württemberg, Germany.
Procompsognathus may have been about 1.2 meters long (4 feet). A biped, it had long hind legs, short arms, large clawed hands, a long slender snout with many small teeth, and a stiff tail. It lived in a relatively dry, inland environment and may have eaten insects, lizards, and other small prey.

Jurassic Park was not only a great film of it's time but it was a brilliant example of Chaos Theory (which is why Dr Ian Malcolm was a major character of the story). For those not familiar with Chaos Theory it is the famous belief in short "shit happens" because it can and will. If you tempt fate then you are basically asking for something to go wrong: we have an island with so called dinosaurs, security run by a single fat guy, the fat guy is going to steal the embryo's, there is a large storm approaching, the tour happens just as the storm is coming...these factors are basically ASKING for things to go wrong.

At first I hated this movie because Sam Neill, Alan Grant, didn't make an appearance in any frame of the movie, as Neill was too busy working on Event Horizon and the Merlin Miniseries .
The opening scene of the movie was scripted but cut from before filming began: Japanese fisherman haul in a large net containing the remains of a Parasaurolophus. Frightened by the sight of the cretaure, they cut the net loose, where it falls in the water and the credits begin.
A lot of scenes were filmed cut from the movie included:
Ludlow gets drunk, falls and breaks the baby Rex's leg by accident. Photos of the scene exist.
Sarah and Nick sneak into the hunters camp, where they begin to sabotage the vehicles by the fuel lines and opening the dinosaur cages. Photos of this scene can be found.
    Roland's original introduction:
In a bar in Mombasa, Kenya, Roland meets up with an old friend of his, Ajay Sindhu, where he tells him of an expedition to Costa Rica. Roland initially refuses, but when he notices a tourist harassing the locals, he beats the man to a pulp teaching him a lesson. When Ajay asks if he's still interested, Roland says, "Ajay, go up to my ranch, take a look around the trophy room, and you tell me what kind of quarry you think could possibly be any interest to me."
This scene can be found in several TV broadcasts.
Peter Ludlow and his associates at INGEN have John Hammond fired as CEO after the 1993 Isla Nublar Incident, to avoid controversy and cover-up. This can be found in the TV version.
Ian thinks that when this whole ordeal is over, him and Sarah might get married, as suggested by Kelly.
Photos show a scene where Roland and Ajay find more T.Rex footprints, finding dead dinosaurs as well, leading to the nest.
An alternative ending was going to have Ian and the others encounter a Pteranodon where it attacks a helicopter, Ian distracts the Pterosaur, while the others board the helicopter. The Pteranodon attacks the bubble of the copter, where Ian shoots it with a flare gun, and it dies, as they fly away to safety. Storyboarded but never filmed.
Another alternative ending had Ian and others jump off a cliff, where Velociraptors fall to their deaths, as our heroes have backpacks with a hanglider that pops open. They get attacked by Pteranodons, going after Sarah, Roland becomes a hero, and sacrifices himself to save her, as the others fly off to the mainland.
