10 Minute Tutorial | How To Do Sun Salutation A
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 чер 2024
- In this tutorial, we're breaking down Sun Salutation A. This is the starting point of our Ashtanga Practice, and the movements found within it are our foundation.
If practiced correctly, Surya Namaskara A or Sun Salutation A can build strength/flexibility and become a moving meditation. If done incorrectly, it can lead to pain and potentially even injuries. Follow along with this class to help guide you toward a strong and safe Sun Salutation that you can practice for many years to come.

I am not only learning Ashtanga with the best, but I am also practicing English. Thank you!! from Argentina.
You two are truly awesome. I deeply appreciate how articulate and clear you are in explaining and breaking down each sequence and posture, especially your seated positions videos which were always challenging for me to understand,Thank you for re-opening the door to Ashtanga for me! Namaste guruji!

Awesome Video! New to Ashtanga and love your videos! Thank You, Namaste!
Thanks for amazing videos
Thank you guys, again, you are amazing 🙏
This was great! It’s good to know there someone out there not just teaching cool poses and go through motions without considering the anatomy, the different muscle engagement and the correct joint position so we don’t hurt ourselves.
I absolutely love you both. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much!!!:)))❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙
Ty so much 🙏🙏❤️❤️

Thank you
Great teachers, very helpful content. Thank you 🌞🙏
You are both lovely ♥️🤲
Thanks so much for these tutorials!
Thank you so much for such a thorough and exceptionally explained tutorial. I used to do yoga at the gym, and the instructor guided the moves but never really explained the breathing technique and why. Still a good workout but really appreciate you guys explaining the structure, and the counts, the proper movements and what to do during each inhale and exhale. Love all your tutorials!! So helpful!! 🙏 🙏
Lovely tutorial!! This is so helpful-- I've been teaching myself this stuff slowly and there's a lot of great notes here in place of face-to-face instruction. Thank you :)
Thank you ...I found this very useful for beginners like me .
Warm regards from Indonesia
Namaste, just subscribed and so glad you started this channel and for all the info you share 🙏🏻
My question is, where should the palms be placed exactly when we exhale from urdhva hastasana pos coming down ?
And, a tutorial on pincha mayurasana with just the necessary drills to perform to get into the pose would be helpful 🙏🏻
You two are great, Ty for all the vids! Looks like a cushy mat, what is it!?
You two are OUTSTANDING!! Would it be possible to see a Malasana-yogi squat correct movement posture? Thank you. Respectfully.
So helpful and happy tutorial, thanks❤️ 🤩 Elena it's your turn to conduct by David😆
❤❤❤❤❤
Short and to the point... 🙏🙏🙏
Since you mentioned bandhas, can you do a tutorial on Tristana - The 3 Pillars of Ashtanga Yoga.
Thank you... Namaste 🙏
Thank you so much for the feedback and great suggestion. We'll add a video explaining it soon :)
Have you instructions for classic suriya namaskara for hatha please?
Thank you for this tutorial very helpful for a beginner like me. Could you please do a tutorial on one legged chaturanga dandasana please. Thanking you both 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Hi Usha, Thank you so much for being here.😊 We teach only Ashtanga and in this lineage there is just one chaturunga. If you haven't seen our tutorial on the alignment yet, you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/KL64bj_iLHo/v-deo.html
thank you do you have salutation B tutorial as well?
Thanks so much for this encouraging video. You give many helpful variations for beginners.
When I join my hands together up to the sky what could I do as a variation if I feel a pitch in my neck & shoulders?
Hi Jill, great to hear you're finding our videos helpful. Try to extend through your arms and lift your chin to extend the neck (versus letting it fall back too much). This should help with the pain in your neck & shoulders :)
My teacher told me to have my arms go out wide instead of straight up in front on count 1 😭 (he’s authorized level 2)
That’s my problem with ashtanga, it’s taught so differently, WHY
I trust your version, and I trust my teachers version, so the student is left confused on what is RIGHT
Can you explain the muscles engaging and muscle stretching in each pose?
Hi. I just watched sun salutation tutorials from multiple Indian teachers, and they do it differently. They do the leg lunges separately, not 2 legs at the same time like in this video. This is not a classic sun salutation, but ashtanga version, right? Thank you 🙏
May i ask a tutorial of a forward fold. I cant touch the floor yet. Ty.
hello! great video, thank you for sharing or great lineage! couple of questions here... I always thought that in samastitihi the heels were a slightly apart.
And you say the hands are to be placed shoulder with apart, but Jelena's hands are wider than shoulder with, which is what I'm used to do and knew for the alignment we use in Ashtanga.
thanks!
Hi! Thanks for checking out our videos and for your comments/questions. In Samasthithi the cue is toes and heels together (or as close together as is possible). For some people the heels will not come together and that's okay, but the action is to draw them toward each other. Hands can be shoulder width or a little wider apart. Jelena's could look wider on here due to the camera angle. Hope this helps :)
@@DavidandJelenaYoga yes i believe so, I don't know why I've always instructed to have big toes together and heels slightly apart to have the outer edges parallel and to start to have muscle action in the legs, but I could be mistaken. thanks for the answer and well I'll keep on seeking my drive to practice which honestly is a bit dead this days.
Just for completion, Surya Namaskara B would be great !
Hi :) You can find it here: ua-cam.com/video/SBpyqE8INk0/v-deo.html
I have bunion on my feet. And cannot put the feet together for sun salutations.. What can I do
maybe you can tell us how long you have been practicing? and how it all started?!
Yes we'll add more about about both of our backgrounds very soon :)
Can you design and post a 15 to 30 minutes yoga session for a beginner senior citizen? Thanks
They have one called ashtanga for beginners it’s 30 minutes
Question, I noticed Jelena brought her arms up from the front and not the side, Is there a correct way front or side bringing the arms up? Thank You.
Great question. We're always looking for the straightest line, and here that would be arms straight up/straight down. It's also helpful to do it this way for when you're practicing in a room with others so you don't swing your arms out wide and potentially whack the person next to you 😉
?起始动作不是山式吗????
I was hoping to see the whole flow at once, after getting the details in slow motion.
I'll have to keep looking for a video that shows that.
Just a suggestion…but why say Sanskrit in Ashtanga especially for the start and end chant when the true meaning can be given by speaking English…maybe alternate 1 day English and then 1 day Sanskrit…
Chanting in sanskrit has different effect in the body
