I absolutely love Crowded House. Even more than Split Enz. Neil Finn's songwriting is touching and clever. Their albums are packed with goodness. I don't know which is my favorite. Possibly WOODFACE and TOGETHER ALONE tied for first place. The Finn Brothers albums are also masterpieces. Sadly, Neil joining Fleetwood Mac was not only a bad move but it came back to bite him in the ass. Suddenly the new material from Crowded House seems horrendous and weak.
Oh well. Great Deep Dive Jeff!

Thanks George! The first 4 Crowded House albums are as far as I’ve gone in checking out their catalog. Beyond that I’m not very interested, I guess.

I had to catch a breath during the "Mean To Me" video when Paul Hester pointed a finger at his head and the "Bang" flag came out. Not the way he did himself in but still......Eerie foreshadowing.

Great album. I'm surprised that Something So Strong was the 5th single. That is the first song I remember hearing/seeing on MTV from Crowded House. I remember it being a bit too cheerful for me at the time, but I enjoyed Don't Dream It's Over immediately when I heard it. Split Enz has always been a favorite of mine. They were one of those bands that got played a lot on early MTV because the network didn't have many videos. My favorites Crowded House albums are Woodface and Together Alone. I loved Woodface immediately, but Together Alone took me a long time to warm up to. Now it might be my favorite. I like their new material, but like almost every band that has been around, you gravitate to the older material. Check them out in concert, they play a lot of the old stuff and put on a fun show. Sadly I can't help think of Paul Hester in that Mean to Me video. It is a little too prophetic.

There are so many eerily prophetic things about the album from Paul pictured as an Angel on the cover to the line about “friends committing suicide” on Mean To Me. Split Enz are great!

oh ffs come on! Stop being "Mcartney is dead". Nothing at all prophetic, related at all about the words or the sleeve . 1986 is not 2005. Mean to me about the sick mental deluded mother daughter obsessed with him, following them all over the place. "Her friend committed suicide".. part of the conversation had with them. Ending as he walked away from them ..she said to him ."you can be mean to me but you cant stop me loving you" . Crazies!!!! Its got nothing to do with prophecies of Paul .
If it was prophetic it would say paul will put a dog chain round his neck and hang from a tree in a park in 2005. Black and white boy off together alone is about Paul , his depressions /mood swings to high & downs. ( although Neil disguised / deflected by saying it's about michael jackson at the time but later after Paul left the band admitted its about paul.. ) ..."but when darkness should quickly descend you go quietly my miserable friend to the depths of despair you will crawl"
Imo they have no better album than " together alone". It's a brilliant piece of work. I always hope there's at least one great song ill like on the new albums, that eventually followed but nothing reaches the heights of the 1st 4 albums.

@@rustymackemingrancanaria6360 I picked up a couple of their post 2000 albums and was not impressed overall.
