They literally had one of the first UA-cam rivalries back in 2008 or 9 before it was the mainstream juggernaut it is today - it was pretty well documented that they met up and made these rivals videos to out do each other, Doug became the angry video game critic and James did a nostalgia nerd episode reviewing turtles 3
He actually reviewed "Ricky 1" (some awful spoof of Rocky).
AVGN's TMNT3 review came out way before the feud with NC

It's funny how in 2008 this was probably just some dumb, poorly acted review by a random guy. But now, since Doug's voice and persona is so recognizable, it holds up better than it did when it was released.

Fun fact: This game was made by five white guys from Canada. If you enter a cheat code, it actually replaces the characters on the title screen with the developers, and the character selection screen is replaced by a photo of a Vancouver ski club that the developers were members in.

I kinda wished NC did more video game reviews, but I guess he wanted AVGN to stay in his lane while NC stayed in his. Then they'd REALLY be rivals.

He did review a Simpsons game not that long after this video, and he got tons of negative feedback. I think he gave up after that since he's definitely more comfortable reviewing movies.

Reminds me of the time a friend bought sf2 for snes, played it for two weeks straight, then called me and declared himself the best at that game. After I beat him with every selectable character, in quick succession, he yanked the cartridge out of the snes and said he was taking it back to the store. It's not the game's fault.

1:21 The tagline was supposed to be "It's animation with attitude" but for some reason, there was an error and the "with attitude" part was cut off (maybe from the slapping hands sound effect? idk). You can ever hear in the announcer's voice that he was going to say something else but didn't.
This video shows how much Critic looks up to Nerd. Not Doug and James, but Critic and Nerd.

Not really, this was part of the VS between the Critic and Nerd, Like many pointed out, this was the before the final battle. Doug actually said that what inspired the Critic Character was... siskel and ebert's show "At The Movies"

Apparently that was actually a name that James was considering when he changed his name from "The Angry Nintendo Nerd".
Also on the rotating bookshelf to two rooms thing...it absolutely could, the bookcase would have to be made to not open 90 degrees but rather something like 60 degrees while the wall separating the two rooms will have a wedge shape of about 30 degrees to compliment the angled opening. This is the only way I can think this to be possible

Actually, most console games shows a demo of the game if you stayed on the title screen longer without pressing any of the controller button to cancel the demo and start the game.

I always loved this review by Doug. He put so much effort into it than James did into the Ricky 1 review.
He puts so much more effort than James has ever done and that's why I fell in love with the Critic and still do. The Nerd I only liked up until his fucking movie. And yes Doug made horrible movies too but I only stuck to the reviews.

@@waddafugg3072 Well Doug has to sit down but he has had several filming locations including a recent temporary office setting until the main studio got fixed I mean what do you want Doug to do- stand up the whole time like the Smeghead? That hurts my legs for a long period of time. Plus Critic has a little variety unlike James or the guys at Red Letter Media who sit there and just talk to the camera all the time.

I thought the exact same too. It’s totally possible. The hall will be narrow but, it will probably lead to a wider space.
He actually addressed this in one of his top 11 fuckups videos and he argued that you could easily just turn the bookcase back a bit and go into the other room, so this still makes no sense.
