This song is a tribute to the drummer "The Rev" who had an incurable heart condition and passed away in 2009. He actually wrote a song called "Fiction" 3 days before he passed away, in the lyrics he wrote "promise me you'll never feel afraid" like a message for the rest of the band. Then, in this song "so far away", they said "sleep tight, i'm not afraid" in response to the lyrics The Rev wrote for them, their way of saying "its okay brother, rest in peace, we promise we're not going to feel afraid".
Don't forget that they're are other songs on the record about him as well. "Save Me" is a big one that comes to mind. And I believe "Nightmare" is about him as well, given the end of the music video for that song.
@@StevelandCleamerHe was on a ton of pain medication because of his heart condition. He was going to die if the heart condition anyway. The song brompton cocktail is about that.
@@kennethmoore427 prescribed medication, maybe. But he definitely OD’d due to abuse. Don’t think that I’m bashing him at all. He’s one of my all time favorite musicians, and I have loved A7X for two decades, but he still OD’d.
I became a fan after my son passed away. I knew he loved the group so I checked them out and love them now. Love "Afterlife" & "Hail To The King" as well. Great reaction 😊❤🎉
I saw them live when they went on tour after this song came out. When they played this song the entire stage was dark except for a spot light on the empty drum set . Zero percussions were playing during the song live.
Their name “avenged sevenfold” actually comes from the book of genesis where it’s says that a crime committed in revenge shall be avenged seven fold. A lot of their earlier music has heavy biblical influence that you would never notice without a deep dive into the lyrics
RIP to the Rev. A7X was one of my favorite bands up until he passed. Still love them, just hits different now and my music taste has evolved. Most of the tracks you should start with, with a couple exceptions, should be from the "Live in the LBC" concert dvd. As a military kid, you should absolutely do Gunslinger. But also check out Critical Acclaim, Scream, Beast and the Harlot, Bat Country, Almost Easy, and A Little Piece of Heaven all the live versions in the LBC. Also recommend Nightmare, Hail to the King, Afterlife, and Brompton Cocktail. Shit, just listen to their self-titled album and City of Evil all the way through. Peak A7X era in my opinion. Edit: man I really miss listening to the Rev. Dude was such a massive talent, if he was alive today with an extra decade of touring experience, and the modern influence of some of the insane techniques today, he'd easily be my favorite drummer I think. He was so naturally gifted; I just remember the old webclip of him recording Almost Easy in one take. Sorry kind of reminiscing the old days for a moment.
yeah this song was tribute so more calm than their other material, they have some amazing bangers, if u would like to do more more avenged sevenfold try: bat country (official music video) beast and a harlot (official music video) critical acclaim (live in lbc) afterlife (live in lbc)
The bands name Avenged Sevenfold, abbreviated A7X comes from the bible: Genesis 4: 13-15 13: Cain said to the LORD, "My punishment is more than I can bear. 14 :Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me." 15: But the LORD said to him, "Not so; if anyone kills Cain, he will suffer vengeance seven times over." Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.
This was more of a one off for them. Due to their drummer passing away, they dedicated the album that this song was on, to him. Usually they are quite a bit heavier than this. But no where near as heavy as Lorna Shore so I think you'll enjoy their stuff!
I like "the beast and the harlot". This was a great reaction I'm glad you enjoyed this song. I'm sure you'll figure out this song is about their drummer who passed away.
It's interesting that you're like the only reactor that didn't understand that it was a memorial/tribute song to their drummer. Bro you're usually so good about catching stuff like this!
They are such a great band when it comes to diverse range. Slower mellow, deep lyrics… all the way to high intensity, amazing drums and guitar riffs. So many good songs you could review “The Stage”, “Sidewinder”, “Save Me”, “Exist”, the list truly goes on and on…. Please review more of them.
One of my fav bands and just a great song...sooo many other great ones...Dear God, Brompton Cocktail, Victim, Welcome to the Family....too many to list
if you are looking for similar songs (not "heavy") from them you can check out "Roman Sky" and "Dear God". in general they got alot of songs related to the military like "MIA", "Gunslinger", "Danger Line".
Damn, Sevenfold would be an absolute blast of a dive. Glad you stumble upon them. ^_^ If I were you I would listen to 1 or 2 songs of each album they have put out, so to appreciate their musical evolution through the years. Have a nice Year man!
Kinda crazy for this to be your first a7x song because it isn't their typical sound/style... but it's also typical for them to branch out and explore so in a way it is. I'd recommend trying The Stage, it has an amazing video and message and curious if you'd vibe with them on a heavier track.
I’ve been watching reactions for two plus years now. Avenged Sevenfold are my favorite reactions next to Ren. They are the best musicians in rock. Their best song and videos, Hail to the King, The Stage, Cosmic, and Nobody. Their guitarist is the best in the world in my opinion. They can do any style, metal, country, nu metal, progressive. My favorite song by them is Cosmic
You need to check out the rock back Three Days Grace. "I Hate Everything About You" is one of my favorite songs by them. It was also the first song I learned to play on guitar. Also check out their song "Pain"
Hey Black P. This is a tune that holds a lot of sentiment for me. I'm sure Don would love this track too. Thanks for the content, the freestyles and the reactions, oh, and congrats on the new addition to your beautiful family. All the love in the world from the UK. Peace x
Absolutely agree with the screamo stuff and I love all forms of music. Rap and rock are phases I've been through big time since the 90's. I've seen Avenged Sevenfold once in Glasgow around 2018 and they were incredible. I'd love to see them again. If you understand their history and work ethic you understand why they've got such a huge following.
This is not their typical style at all as it was a tribute to their former drummer, The Rev. Definitely worth a deep dive. R.I.P. The Rev. A talent gone far too soon.
As every says it’s for the rev their drummer. Also not there is no drummer in the studio with them. Very nice touch. Basically saying no one will replace him and fill his shoes.
This was a tribute song to their late drummer "The Rev". You'll see on the neck of the lead guitar where the frets are, it says "The Rev" with a cross. And on the acoustic guitar strap it says "foREVer".
"Bat country" was the first song of theirs I heard, and its probably my favorite. The name Avenged Sevenfold likely comes from: God says that if anyone should kill Cain, vengeance will be taken on him Sevenfold.
We went to their concert in 2011, 3 years after I lost my Mama, the concert was 4 days before her birthday and M. Shadows (Matt Sanders) dedicated it to all of those that had lost someone. I was bawling. They had a projection of that shot of The Rev (Jimmy Sullivan) hugging the guys behind the drum kit. 💔 They do have many many great songs, personally for me Little Piece of Heaven is not one I enjoy. Dear God, Seize The Day, Almost Easy, Bat Country, Buried Alive, Carry On (from Call of Duty) and so many more. . .. and while I do love the Live in the LBC version of Critical Acclaim there's some lyrics that aren't sung in the live that are in the Official Audio. Syn always has crazy guitar solos, but Zacky and Johnny are right there with him in the rhythm guitar and bass. The Rev was an awesome drummer, and I am glad they asked Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater to play their Welcome To The Family (another great song on the Nightmare album) Tour because Jimmy was a fan of Mike. 🤘 I don't know what their religious beliefs are (nor do I care) but Avenged Sevenfold is from the OT of the bible. I do remember that from an interview.
To be real about it as I was watching this I found out this year that a best friend of mine I grew up with I loved her actually fell in love with her but anyways I found out she died two years ago but I didn't know until this year and it's been devastating to me like just now I was singing it but I kept looking up and blowing kisses because I miss her so much and I loved her with all my heart and so this song hits harder for me now than it did when I first heard it when it came out so yeah great song great reaction

You should listen to Bad Wolves - "Remember When", it's in the same vein, but not a happy song. It's metal, but has a totally different hip hop vibe since it's mostly about the then lead singer Tommy Vext growing up as a black kid in Brooklyn and nearly being murdered by his twin brother who is currently serving time in prison for it.
This is a good one, but to hear more of what they do, check out "strength of the world" on the city of evil album. It's a really pretty one, does go hard later, but all in all, it's a really good song.
And the Lord said he would avenge the death of Cain sevenfold to any who did him harm .. something like that.
