- The only remaining pickup truck in the market, the Isuzu D Max V Cross has recently got a BS6 update. We sample one for a few days to see if it's any good and discuss why pickup trucks didn't take off in India. You already know that Toyota is planning to launch the Hilux and Ford was talking about the Ranger / Raptor pickup just as it was exiting Indian operations. Indian market favours SUVs and even Lifestyle SUVs like the Mahindra Thar have done quite well here. Isuzu has a very good truck in its hand and with the automatic gearbox it is easier to drive than before too. But will Indian buyer's like the price?

My brother uses one of the first batch V-cross from when prices were still reasonable, primarily for transporting race bikes / equipment. A car that does its job well overall. My only grouse is the clearance between shin area and lower dash panel on driver side, which is very small and ergonomically inconvenient.

This is still the previous generation RT series(facelift). The RG series which was introduced in the global market in 2019 is a way more advanced chassis compared to this. Mazda BT-50 shares the same platform with the RG series. Also globally the newer generation is a direct competition to Hilux(fortuner) so the price is justified.
I agree from last few years it’s really a good ute and going around some countries. I reckon, Izusu’s light and medium rigid trucks more popular and reliable in those segments. It’s way better, Hilux n Ranger rather than Dmax coz the price is almost same (Ranger is expensive if u go for top specs). But I am not with BT 50. It has to grow up more to compete with these ones
