@@JoeyDrones I just took my test today and aced it on my first try. They had me pick up a 53 footer and drive it around the parking lot and park it between two trailers twice.
I can move these trailers with my eyes shut, it was nothing for us to move between 130 to 155 trailers in a 10 hr shift. But we also had computers in our Jockey Trucks to keep us moving trailers. Too bad ES3 is an ass wipe to work for. I worked there for about six years jockeying trailers and was second in seniority, I had the privilege of working with some of the best jockeys around. Everyone of us took care of our trucks, always did a walk around before and after our shift, we kept our trucks clean on the inside as well as the out. We also worked as a team. I moved containers as well as trailers. I believe when I very first started the Pup trailers were the worst in learning to back into a spot, but it took me about a full day, and it was a piece of cake. My advice to anyone who is a jockey or wants to learn how to back a trailer or container or pup trailers in a spot where they need to go is simple. The secret is to watch your back tandem, not the back of the trailer, but your tandems, if you do that and put them tandems between them lines you will always back em right in with no problems. If your looking at the ass in of that trailer or container or a pup trailer while backing it in you will be there all day, and looking like an ass. Lol just saying. But watch those tandems and it doesn’t matter where they are located on the trailer ether, they might be slid all the way up or somewhere in the middle of the ass end or slid all the way back, it doesn’t matter. Just watch them tandems, you will get em there everytime. But of course watch the other trailers also as to being careful not to come to close or hitting them. I sure do miss that kind of work. Good luck to all you Jockeys out there🪶

Hey I have a big question when u do a tug pull trailer the proper way to do it is connect the emergency line first then do the tug or just once u hook up just do a tug pull and then get off and connect the emergency line. I am asking bc I have my yard jockey test Tuesday
As a yard jockey you back into a trailer make sure your fifth wheel goes under the skirt where the king pin is over the trailer too high you raise up your fifth wheel back up when he hear the king pin lock then you perform a tug pull .connect your hoses
I drive a 2005 Kalmar industries bird just like this one every night. These Kalmar birds you can put a trailer anywhere you please. Drivers side and blind side jack knife backs.
It’s there call. For me if you’re moving containers trailers in 1 yard I don’t think you shouldn’t have to but companies required you to because sometimes you might go on an actual road.
It's more easy becoming a truck driver than a yard spotter.. ! A yard spotter needs to be fast and back up every trailer and containers in less than 1 minute ..
😂😂😂 Honestly, a great question for anyone thinking about this as a career. It depends on how much your company values its employees. During the summer, a cab without AC will get 20°-30° hotter than the ambient temperature. Between the ample amount of glass, sitting above the engine that is not insulated, and the poor ventilation, you're going to lose weight in the summer. And if it rains, good luck keeping the glass clear. In the winter, these units can get toasty. Keep in mind that if your company has older units and the blower motor for the heater breaks, you're screwed. Parts for old units are nearly impossible to find. Also, the size of the company does NOT increase the likelihood to get a unit with AC. I work for a Fortune 100 company and in 41 years I saw my first AC unit last year. I know the service brakes are for when you press your brakes, but why do yard jockeys never use them, yet any company you go to stresses about using them?
Big companies jockey’s do use them like Amazon ,Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Target, ext…. Small companies don’t so I was doing a favor using there truck , and that’s how I found it so I made a video about it. Be safe my friend thanks for watching
If you drive too fast on the yard like I do, you want that service line because you want those brakes on that trailer. You also need to consider yards that have hills. You don't want to try to stop a fully loaded trailer on a hill with just the tractors brakes.
Ok for all the new folks actually everyone..Hook up both airlines. Don't care how fast you are going zero reason to just run emergency. (Red) It's hard on the truck brakes etc thats all thats stopping you (blue) is trailer braks.. Also everytime you are on the brakes without service hooked up you are dumping air out the service line. (Blue). The yards I have worked in allowed speed limit of 15mph. Trying to stop 35 to 40,000lbs when an over the road driver pulls out infront of you like a meat head. With just emergency hooked up ur sure as shit gunna wish you had the trailer brakes helping whoa that B down
Takes 1 extra second to throw the blue on. Of course you will find yards where the service line is ripped of and the company don't fix shit in that case run red but just remember she ain't gunna stop worth a damn.
