  • Hello, everyone! In this video, I will quickly explain 4 methods of adding detail to smoke simulations in Blender. Here, I will provide short descriptions of how the features utilized function, along with how to use some of them.
    The purpose of this video is to present the importance of some of Blender's features when simulating detailed smoke. Please consider, that here I will only display short summaries of the different methods used. Some of those methods, such as textures and particles, are very expandable, however, and can be used in a variety of forms.
    Anyway, I hope you enjoy the video!

    Hello, everyone! Some of the information here about Mantaflow is outdated (for instance, it now has the "adaptive domain" feature).

    I found that with High Res option enabled, the strength value works only for wavelet noise. So you can enable just hires divisions, with strength set to 0, this way you will get more resolution, without additional high frequency noise that sometimes looks odd

    Hi. Great tutorial. Thanks for sharing. Would you mind sharing your project files? I usually fail at getting a realistic simulation because my emitters seem to be odd. You get great shape in your fireballs and flame simulations. Any tips on how to get those? How do you shape your emitters? Do you emit from particles or surface/volume? How do you manage flames and get them in there? Your simulations definitely look production ready.
    But your tutorial is awesome. Thanks a lot.

    Can you make a tutorial on how to download Mantaflow?

    • @IagoMotaVFX
      @IagoMotaVFX  5 років тому

      You can download Mantaflow, as in you can get a version of Blender that has it. Here's a link: graphicall.org/1240
      To use it, just set-up your scene, as you normally would and, when you go to simulate smoke, you can see that the physics panel is slightly different, and the smoke behaves differently from how it does in other Blender versions.

    lies, blender never crashes, it just fucks off without telling anyone :')
    very often killing it and restarting is the best option when you gave it too much shit yeah,
    when you try to enter a 5 with your fat fingers and accidently graze the 4 so its 54 now, and you just pressed enter... and you see your ram use slowly piling up to a point higher than the stack goes
    goddammit i'm a ninja at CTRL+S and sometimes i still need the autosaves.
    blender is cruel when it comes to "i wonder what happens when i turn this setting up" lol
    the answer is very often: a reduction in quality of life
    simplify still can't help the insane particle madness you sometimes need for smoke sim, just leave them off in the viewport lol
