Hank Williams - Jambalaya

- Hank Williams singing Jambalaya at the Louisiana Hayride in October of 1952, just over two months before he died. Although the emcee, Horace Logan, on this recording mentions the Drifting Cowboys, Hank's backing band, this is definitely not them backing Hank on this recording. For one thing, there's an enthusiastic piano playing throughout the recording, which is a rarity on any Hank Williams' recording, for Hank once said, "the piano has no place in country music."
It's awesome to be able to hear the crowds reaction to Ole Hank
Hank did this one song, Jambalaya, at the Hayride on September 13, 1952. It was one week before the beginning of his new Hayride contract. However, Horace Logan saw Hank back stage that night, and he agreed to come out and do one song.
We were taking a drive in the car, listening to the radio and my mother said "he's dead" my dad was surprised. I was only 4 years old going on 5 but I remember it was Hank Williams.
Mr.Hank William, A giant whom many people today don't know. Very beautiful singing
After being kicked off the Grand Ole Opry, Hank signed a one year contract to apper on the "Hayride" every Saturday night. He was in the third month when he passed. Sad ending for a great talent
Correction: He signed a three year contract.
He sighed a three year contract.
Yeah him and elvis should both have been on the louisiana hayride at the same time elvis signed up for a two year contract in 1954
Really like hearing the live performances and Hanks interaction with the fans .
Listening to this version makes me feel so happy, with the violin and the audience cheering you feel like you’re really there
The greatest songwriter, and a great country voice.
Would have loved to be in the audience that night but unfortunately, I was only 4 years old and lived over 3 thousand miles away in England. It’s a pity there's no film of that performance.
Paula and my sister Sybil was listening to a station from New Orleans La. when it came on the radio that Hank Williams had died we cried hours
Only weeks to go. Tragic.
I caught the very last broadcast of the Hayride on August 27th 1960. It was like someone had died.
The crowd obviously loved him. Can't blame 'em.
j'ai 62 ans , lorsque je passerais de vie a trépas , je veut que l'on fasse jouer ( goodbye joe , me gotta go ) merci hank pour ces si belles chansons ,,,,,,,,,,,,,
ライヴ録音があるとは知りませんでした。素晴らしい‼️
We need a new Louisiana Hayride
That would be great, but unfortunately the times and the music industry has changed from those days. Twenty two Hall of Famer’s got their start on the Hayride. Today we have American Idol and The Voice. Horace Logan is my uncle and he told me so many unknown and unpublished stories of the Hayride days. I am glad to discover this clip I had not heard before and to hear my uncle’s voice brings a spring of memories. All we can do is appreciate the uniqueness of those days that allowed such great talents to blossom.
It sounds interesting with the piano tinkling in the background.
This was the hayride band, Felton Pruett, who played steel guitar for Hank as a DC at his first stint on hayride, may be the steel guitarist here, not sure though. Most of his DC band stayed in Nashville after he left Opry.
I like hank Williams and also Nashville
The fiddle player was more than likely was Dobber Johnson.
👍👍👍
None of the Nashville Drifting Cowboys followed Hank when he returned to the Hayride in September of 1952.
September 13, 1952
People now don't have the taste or expressed their self like that any more. They have too much on their mind.
Seems to me the audience had a blast....
Wow check out the size of those women on the far left lol.
Piano's and drums have no place in real country music.
