First time in Las Vegas, 1987, for American Heart Assoc conference.

  • Update: The Mirage Hotel was just going up in 1987 and on 11 July 2024 it was announced they were closing.
There are many good scenes of the old Las Vegas in this video from 1987. A group of us were sent there for the American Heart Association conference. I presented a paper. We were staying at the old MGM Grand bldg. which I think was a Bally Hotel at the time. It's almost 40 years ago now.
    More:
Back in 1987, I was making these vids mainly for myself since I had no idea or concept that something like UA-cam would come along. I claim no prescience. Yet, now I have some kind of inner satisfaction knowing that someone other that my small group of friends (very small) can enjoy these videos. Please take the time to browse through my channel for other vids of the same mode, different locations. Thanks to all.
    More:
In this vid you will see a free standing USPS traditional blue mailbox. That would absolutely not be there these days for many reasons. I can't point out all of the changes from 1987 until now so I ask you all for any help. Thank you.

Once in LV as we came to land the skies were very cloudy. It was disappointing to be there without the sun. Around 4pm there was a very heavy wind storm. You had to be inside because of all the sand blowing. When it was over in about 20 minutes the winds blew all the grey clouds out and for the next 5 days of our trip it was nothing but sunshine.

    • @mcdeadsquirrel

I can't say much on the BC, never having been a guest there. I have stayed at the old Frontier (gone now). I became a fan of the Palace Station because it was off the Strip and close to the local shopping areas. I would always have a car rental and that me allowed to do local shopping if need be. There are several Station hotels, at least there used to be. I don't know what is there now. I old section of the PS was only 2 stories high so you could get in and out and get to your car in a hurry. It was kind of quiet hotel, small swimming pool where you could talk with normal people from the Midwest and other Western states. Further, I was informed that the PS is the place where locals like to use the casino. The food is top shelf there, too.
