On the other hand, we see the "soft on crime states" suffering under their policies now as crime skyrockets in those cities. There has to be a commonsense balance between over-incarceration and protecting the public.

@@tbone6924Incarceration as implemented in the US is inherently flawed, as is your viewpoint. Instead of prison being perceived as a method of rehabilitation, it's used as a vehicle for punishment. And because we Americans are stupid, the lot of us think that genuinely inhumane conditions and stripping of someone's entire livelihood equates to someone going "Oh, I've made a mistake, I won't be doing that again." No you silly weasel, when someone's options after getting out of prison are either a. Making no more than $7.25 an hour because nobody will hire an ex-convict or b. making a proper living by committing all the crimes that got them in jail in the first place. And it's no wonder why places like Denmark don't have a crisis of repeat offenders- because rehabilitation isn't seen as a weakness.

It’s funny too because you’ve never seen someone with genuine mental health issues call people who commit suicide cowards. Which the overwhelming majority of prisoners already have depression and other issues. It’s like you trying to relate to a schizophrenic but you don’t even have 1/100th of their experience. And then you’re judging them for being schizophrenic on top of that.

I have a loved one who did several years in prison. Observed a stabbing in which a man on his unit bled out from his neck and Observed several suicides. He now has awful nightmares and is in PTSD therapy.
Sounds like he learned his lesson to not go back to prison and maybe you too

therapy is pointless and mental health meds are trash, you're not taught this in the main stream healthcare system in america.But mental health issues are not casued by trauma or chemical imbalance its a BS lie by the con industry of mental health. Real drs that tell the truth are called functional medicine MDs. mental health issues are casued by nutrition deficiencies thats it. your body gets all fkd up when just one or more vitamins are low. easy fix have the person you know do a myers cocktail IV and a vitamin d3 injection it cures mental health issues with in a week as high dose vtiamins ajust to your body. you get optimal levels of all vitamins same day. no need for oral supplements wich are almost uless you only absorb about 10 percent of the vitamin and doesnt really do anything. I remember when I was in county jail for a several months and I signed a request form to speak to a therapist. I remember writing in big letters “IM NOT SUICIDAL” they took me out of public housing at 2am and places me in a all concrete holding cell for eight hours. After that they placed me in a 4x10 single man cell, no books, no tv, just my thoughts and the screams and shouts of the other inmates in neighboring single man cell. I didn’t even know I was on suicide watch until a guard who I was friendly with asked me why I was there. I don’t suffer from depression but that was truly a fucking pit of despair.
They should have a holding cell with a phone for circumstantial hutches not confirmed previous and occurrences.

A former inmate is who needs to be running the prisons. After spending a few years in a range of state prisons I have a good idea what the problem areas are. But they would never hire a felon like me.
I live about an hour from the hazleton prison. It's one of the worst in the nation
With Democrat leadership, they might hire you as an advisor. It makes for a great photo op and PR that seems consistent with progressive values. They probably won’t listen to you, but it never hurts to try.

@@shadowprince4482 In Oregon having drugs under $300 (or something like that) is now decriminalized. Which is a step in the right direction. That way you are likely not putting away users and are instead getting dealers.

My best friend recently died in prison the end of last year. They aren’t releasing anything on it. He wasn’t affiliated, he was a lone wolf. And not the type to end himself. I feel like he was ended and they are going to label it as a SS
I had a friend that died in jail a few years ago very similar. Said he died in his sleep in his TWENTIES. He was close to getting out. In his spirits, excited about being clean and then he just died and they wouldn't release any info to his common law spouse/ family. Just "natural causes"
My daughter also died of "Natural causes ". 22 years old.

@@josheakins5137Back injury at work, opioids from Doctor, prescription runs out but pain doesn't, doctor won't continue prescription, you buy opioids for pain on the street, they're cut with fentanyl, by this point you're homeless because your back injury prevents you from working, you're picked up by the police for being homeless and searched, the drugs you take for back pain are illegal and you sent to prison.

I worked at a county jail for a time. If we had a suicide, we were instructed to leave the scene as is until the investigative team arrived. We were told not to discuss it and to fill out a report and keep our mouth shut. It was something nobody wanted to talk about and it was swept under the rug as fast as it could be. I discovered a young man who had hanged himself and the image of his body still haunts me to this day. I didn’t find out until later when another inmate told me, that things had been done to him by others in jail. He died by himself with nobody to hear his pain. To me, this was a bigger crime than anything he did. We desperately need more mental health care in prisons.
must be awful to be defenseless in a place like that. I came close to ruining my life as a kid and I shutter to think how close I came to being a baby face kid in prison. There just are no easy answers to these issues, the predator's just work around any solutions they try. It isn't as bad as the 60's/70's and conditions in the book "the hate factory" but it's still awful.
@@rockpadstudios I’ve read “The Hate Factory” and you’re correct, it wasn’t nearly that bad, it was just a county jail but even there, stuff happens. He was just a kid who got caught doing a string of burglaries in storage garages and yeah, he had a very hard life but I can’t help but wonder if he just had someone to guide him he’d still be alive.
I was that kid and I never had anyone positive in my life. The only men that showed me any attention were pedo's, I managed to keep them away from me. I spent a weekend in jail, ran away and spent time locked up but wasn't hurt. I realized the danger and knew if I wanted to leave and never come back, I needed an education and was lucky enough to work my way through college. I never went back. Never met my dad and my mom was a mess. You are right, just a little mentoring could have saved that poor kid. I still think about how close I came to ruining my life. @@risinbison1106

I gotta say U hit the nail on the about being institutionalized after my last few sentences everything was changing I went to a employment office to find a job and I asked them for the yellow pages so I could cold call company's they looked me up n down like I was stupid I didn't know it was on the internet and they have never worked with someone who has only just came out with PTSD and all the other crap I won't go into but yeah. it was confronting I walked out angry got home and cried I still struggle making choices for myself it's a hard road but I'm out and hopefully never going back again anyway thanks for the uploads I'm finding Ur stream extremely helpful in understanding myself where these things are not explained when you get out I've done ten years now not including parole or orders but thank you again Ill keep watching your content and learning more about understanding the shit that life leaves you with, thank you you don't know how much U have helped me
When I was in jail we had a guy unalive himself, he was in for his 4-5th DUI with bodily injury. He thought he was going to get 30- life, he'd been to prison before, his wife didn't want to wait.
Turns out the family forgave him, and his lawyer worked a deal to get him probation, he would have been on the streets in a week.
So the streets are safer now.
Larry, I think I might know one of the reasons more people are taking note of this hypocrisy, but you may have difficulty seeing what I see without using a mirror. Your openness in discussing your experience is compelling, and I think you are making a difference. People can dehumanize and dismiss the well-being of a prisoner, but it's much harder when they hear a human being describing the experience of being a prisoner. I hope you keep doing this.
People who are actually willing to harm themselves aren't the ones who tell the cops, SW in a turtle suit is the worst place you can be incarcerated.
Hopefully this issue gets better. People should feel wanted in life.

I watched you for a long time, roughly about the same time you interviewed Chad Marks I started watching him and now I watch all the guys, Delay, Bick, Woody, Jay Williams, Tim Sno, all good content creators with good goals, all play no BS, all a lot like you 😊 well I recently saw this guy from Baltimore on Chad's channel called Vmoney and was very impressed by his story, drive and goals. I really think he's worth an interview or colab, any kind of bump from someone like you could save a lot of youngsters I believe. He hasnt broke 30 yet, many will connect with him. Either way you probably wont get to this but if ya do, I am grateful for everything you do and getting me interested in supporting people who can affect the future in a positive way. I'm a producer of content. Although I have not been in life down the road you have, I am an excellent judge of talent and people who communicate well. Your the best. There's a guy on the internet that you probably know and I try to learn things from him, but he's so "in your face" with his aggressive delivery, I notice that rather than his information. And although I am not criticizing his style, to me, I just learn a lot more when the host is not loud and aggressive. So thank you so much for your very educational and mind boggling information. Seems to me, the punishment of prison is not being sent there, but who you have to deal with while your there. Unbelieveable!

Legalizing drugs would greatly reduce the prison population. The war on drugs didn’t stop anyone from using drugs, in fact, helped to contribute to 100,000 fentanyl deaths per year.

Look at countries where their laws actually work, at least better than all the others in the world. The US is the one of the harshest and yet it gets worse and worse every year in terms of all crimes.
It quite literally can’t be more obvious that it’s not only not working, but making itself worse.
Keep in mind that’s the goal in the US though. The prison system is INSANELY profitable for certain people. That’s why it’s designed this way.
There's many factors to this. Prison is too punished focused rather than rehabilitation focused. When you get out your treated like a second class citizen with no right to vote and you get turned away for various things because of discrimination based on criminal history. The view society has towards former inmates is that they'll just do it again which creates a self fulfilling prophecy. Society is at fault for our current justice systemm

this is sad. I do know when my friend went to prison, friends got just a small paper with suggestions on how to help the inmate "survive". Just "Be sure to write and keep in touch." That's it? Also there was only one typewriter (a typewriter) for the inmates to write letters. There was no encouragement on the end of the prison. Non violent crime, but so hard for us to help....

boggles my mind there are so many suicides. How many of them are Homicides made to look like a Suicide? I read a 2022 report on Suicide rates by Ethnicity and Men of Colour and Latino are less likely to commit suicide statistically speaking. Thanks Larry 🍺🇨🇦

The trick and not getting hurt in prison Is not breaking the law. Once you intentionally made a decision to jeopardize the comfort or safety of someone else. You lost the ability to complain about your situation. You made a clear demonstration that you did not care about them or anything they needed. Now That they are in a bad situation they want sympathy.
Reality is not as black and white as you make it out to be, a lot of people are in jail who never broke a law or broke a law that is unjust to begin with, there is also a ton of people in jail who were framed by police (police planting drugs or evidence happens WAY more than people realize, police also straight up entrap people by luring them into crimes they wouldn't normally commit and are even targeting children this way). You sound like someone who has never done time and if not you have no place speaking your opinion on the matter....

Us square guys out here on the street are struggling. I make $92K (took twenty years to get here) and I feel like I'm drowning. I can't imagine how guys feel after being off the streets and out of society for years, hitting the job market unemployed with a felony record. Sounds pretty bleak.

Hey Larry you seem like a very reasonable man. Highly intelligent, coherent and definitely know your shit. You should consider running to get a position on any organization overseeing prisons. You could help to make these places better for rehabilitation, society, inmates, guards and safety.
I’m glad you touched on this. A lot of people fear that they will be killed in prison. While that does happen, you’re more likely to die of suicide or lack of medical care.

Gotta be honest, I did 30 days. I understand that's NOTHING but......that 30 days felt like a LIFETIME. So, these people that are doing 5....10...20...30 years. I could see how " unaliving" could be someone's option. Especially if they are middle aged with a 20 or 30 year sentence. Like someone getting locked up for 23 of 24 hours.......for life.....idk....such a tough situation. The amount of time you have to ONLY think to yourself or reading for 23 hours.....in a little room by yourself

I experience time in the BOP life and it sucked (spent about year and half at a "low"). I asked one CO that was somewhat open to the inmates, why does prison here have very few security cameras. She gave 2 reasons, one because the prison is little over 100 years old (Some parts were built in 1970-80s). Second answer she gave is that the CO "union" mandated that there will be very few cameras on the compound/prison.

I understand we all must be held accountable and pay for crimes , especially serious crimes. Victims deserve justice. But we need to be humane. Wonder why people come out worse than they went in.
The thing is people don't care about prisoners. Most people think they deserve it and they don't deserve anything. They think prisoners get free food, healthcare, and housing so they already have it very good. They don't realize that they are human beings that deserve respect. It is just the way it is.
It's because we don't really have a free country. The government is completely controlled by the wealthy and corporations. As the most, for me, obvious example is, when i had jury duty a few months ago, they asked us some questions before we were picked to serve on a particular jury. One of those questions was, was I willing to convict someone of a crime where that person could get a very long time in prison? What gives the government the right to ask any questions at all of a jury? And, that question in particular. It's the same as asking if I think it was a crime, and not just a law the government wanted.
My buddy works for one of the biggest prisons in my state and some of the stories he's told me make my skin crawl. I don't see how humans can treat other humans the way they do. From all sides of the fence. Prison guards treating inmates the way some do, inmates treating each other the way some do. Or even the way the prison system itself is run.
I get we're all humans and humans are messy, and we're all different. But damn dude x.x
This is such a complex issue. Its hard to have sympathy for prisoners but at the same time some of this stuff is straight up inhumane. What happened to rehabilitation?
The reason is that conditions are terrible. They are human beings who have been given no hope, and even when they get out of prison they can't get a job. Cops don't care, lawyers don't care, and judges don't care. Improve the conditions in prisons, and give people hope to get out and have a chance once they get out.

It could also be the case that some of these prisoners believed they didn't have much to live for, and so decided to commit some sort of crime that they knew would get them jailed and would get them away from any loved ones or other support structure, and then take their own lives shortly after being jailed.
On the unknown deaths after my mother died the coroner did 3 autopsies on her and were never able to determine her cause of death 😢 32 years later and we still have no idea why she died 😢

One of the biggest problems i saw working in mental health confinement is the resources wasted on inmates that aren't Sue E. Sidel. They are just upset because their coffe cake wasn't as big as the guy next to him or trying to escape GP. Inmates with real mental health issues suffer because staff are now focused on an inmate that is just playing the game.

If I was put in prison for life or a long enough period of time, after which living becomes meaningless, then I wouldn't want the state to take the decision away from me. If we don't have the right to die, doesn't that make life an imposition?

Hey! Nice beard btw. I might not know what I'm talking about but I just think that a lot of people in prison probably need something way different. I find it odd that we take people that are probably already closer than usual to commit suicide and put them in a place that is made to be depressing. I just think the problem might be more profound then just policies not being applied. I personally think that punishment is more a thing to scare others then really to help the person evolve. I have no solution. It's not my field but I think more studies should be made to maybe find a better way to handle of this. Prison is just a crazy concept to me.
Keep up the good work Larry whhat scares me what's going on in prisons is now going on in our education and Healthcare System America's in crisis in so many areas America is facing the social Decay that many historians looking back will say it's r o m e that fell again without the 900 years of power I pray I'm wrong

OSHA standards DO NOT LOSE! In first response, "imminent danger" is the highest priority. OSHA 300 log is an OSHA standard. Biz entities with 50 or more employees are required to keep an up to date OSHA 300 log.
Makes sense especially ever since the pandemic and also with everything in the country going on currently. Suicides are high on the outs too
The justice system is so messed up.
People don’t care until it happens to someone they love. While my husband was incarcerated, he threatened to kill himself when we were on the phone. I immediately called the institution and told them to put him on watch. I talked to some captain that was the shift commander and he didn’t take me seriously. I then told him if something happened to my husband he would have a serious problem on his hands and I would make sure he was prosecuted. I kept detailed records of who I talked to, the date and time and a summary of the conversation. I made sure they knew I was documenting everything. My husband was then put on watch and he remained on watch for a few weeks. The psychiatrist called me several times to give me updates. My husband has been home for 6 months now. I will be so relieved when he is off parole. We were fortunate enough to get a really good parole officer who has been a great resource.
As someone from Canada who had spent a few years in Vancouver, prisoners beg not to be released because of the cost of living (according to the news lol so take it with a grain of salt for being over emphasized), 100% they are ending up on the streets. Translate it to this news, its not surprising this is happening, there is no hope on the outside for a better life right now
