Many thanks for the playthrough of this intriguing game. I noticed a couple of rule/gameplay goofs and decided to mention them: 17:05 Haste icon doesn't negate damage in an encounter, only when running, but you were not running. It indeed allows to swap the encounter with an add card in your fan, but you didn't have any there, so you should have resolved the fail condition and downgraded a card. 19:55 That zombie would deal only one damage in case of failing, which is listed under the fail result. The damage on the left side (on the banner) would only count if that card would be in the fan of another failed encounter (unfortunately there was no example of such situation in the playthrough due to the next goof...). This mistake is repeated several times throughout the whole playthrough, for example at 27:16, 30:03. 20:30 The special ability of the maiden counts only if its card is in the fan! It even says so on the Gwendolyn card: "When in a Fan, Cellar all Adds". As the result you shouldn't have cellared the adds in this and other encounters and it would have made a huge difference for the playthrough. 28:48 You could have cellared the level 3 obstacle which was higher than your current level. The level 1 obstacle should have remained in the fan. 48:20 Haste icon could have been used to avoid the downgrade since you were running from the obstacle. 50:30 I think that the foresight icon could have been activated to rearrange cards behind the fan BEFORE adding another card to the fan. There was a chance that this would give you that one icon required to defeat the captor and win the game. Also, on a few occasions the downgrade icon on the savior card in saved state was ignored (when in the fan). Although I think that it wouldn't make any difference in these particular situations, I found the lack of discussion on this suggesting that it was simply overlooked (apologies if it wasn't!).
@20.38 you say your special ability is that you can Cellar all Adds. However, your special ability card (the maiden card) is not in the Fan (the first 5), but is actually down the hall. On page 10 of the rule book it says that “Maidens encountered in a Fan contribute icons and special abilities (described on the card back) to an Encounter.” This leads me to believe that she must be in the Fan to use that special ability. Please let me know if I have been playing it incorrectly. While fun (esp. for solo play), the rules are all over the place😁. Thanks! (BTW thank you for the run through and your attention to solo play in your videos!!! Much appreciated!!!)
Yes, you are correct. A combination of factors led to a number of rules errors in this particular play through. The rule book played no small part in that; but hopefully the video was still of some use. Thanks for watching, and for the kind words!
SoloMode Games TY for responding. Yes. Your video was really helpful. I’m still discovering my own errors in play as I just bought the game. But that does not distract from a really cool original game. Again, thanks for clarifying!
I don't see the dimensions in the rule book or on the box, but yes they are unorthodox. Sleeving probably is a good idea, although the slipperiness could cause issues as well. Thanks for watching!
I really enjoyed this playthrough. The game looks unique. I enjoy Palm Island and Numbsters but this seems to have more depth. I can imagine that it would be fun to play on a plane journey, trying out the different Princess and villain combos.
Thank you for your playthrough! Perfect timing for me as I pre-ordered it last night. I was glad to be able to see it played start to finish. I think this will be a good one!
shatnershairpiece It comes with enough for two complete decks. Players can contribute cards to each other to help them defeat the boss. I've never played the game this way, but I believe that's generally how it works.
Hmm, I think you could have won that last encounter and the game? In your last fan you had the +1 to increase the fan to 6. But you also had the foresight (look and rearrange 5 next cards). So, could you not use the foresight to place a card with a symbol on it first in line (saw you had a charisma within those next 5) and THEN activate the +1, having it be the charisma instead of the unusable Haste? Edit: Rules page 4 states clearly that Special Icons (such as Haste) can be used to meet "Any X" requirements, so you won even without using the method I suggested above. Congrats anyways!
This seems like the perfect size and type of game for me. I really like the fan and cellar mechanics. Unfortunately, it looks near impossible. Even though you weren't supposed to use the special ability every fan, you still got brutalized. It looks like this game is trying to appeal to Dark Souls fans (not me). Does this game have an easy mode? Thanks for the play through!
Taco Knight Thanks for watching! Unfortunately there were a number of things I did wrong in this particular play through. It turns out (even though I got a lot of rules wrong in general) that I was, indeed, playing on a hard mode so to speak. This wasn't included in the rule book (which has a number of issues, unfortunately), but the easy mode is just to make it through all of the levels alive.
You weren't sure when you filmed this but maybe now you are. Why does the haste icon not count against the captor's win condition? For that matter, also the foresight and +1 to Fan icons.
Hmmm, this was an interesting one but I don't think its for me. Way too much randomly discarding your equipment instead of meaningful choices. For my pocket card with with a focus on card turning... I think I'll stick with Palm Island.
Thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment. I haven't had a chance to play Palm Island yet, so I can't compare them. I do feel like I should say though that I'm still pretty new to the game. I don't think I played particularly well, and I imagine getting more familiar with the cards would lead to much more nuanced play than I displayed here. I was just trying to give a sense for how it worked because it's so unlike anything I've ever played before. This play through was just one mode of several included in the game.
I didn't mean that to judge. I really appreciate getting to see the game in action. I'd been curious about it and this is the first time that I feel I understand the core game loop.
I didn’t get the sense that you were judging at all. I just wanted to make it clear that my play probably didn’t do a great job of showing the potential advanced play strategies since I’ve only played it a few times.

Good job explaining.Hope to play it soon.Would like tohave seen how you win and the dot using the key.

What is that card's dimension??? Huhuhu is there even sleeves for that? That kind of handling would require sleeving, absolutely.
I don't see the dimensions in the rule book or on the box, but yes they are unorthodox. Sleeving probably is a good idea, although the slipperiness could cause issues as well. Thanks for watching!
yes, it would probably also make the deck just a bit too thick to handle comfortably.

Thanks for watching! I'm glad it was helpful, even if I couldn't seem to keep the cards in frame!
I've had this game on my shelf for a couple months now, and am just breaking out. This helped immensely. Thanks.
Thanks for the play through.
How exactly is this a coop? I only see solo.

Hey Mike, can we expect in the future a playthrough of Palm Island ? Thanks.
RipTail That's my plan! I have a couple of things in the queue before it, but it's on the list.

Just curious why do you shuffle off camera? Thank you for the playthrough just picked this up
Jordan Herd I was just trying to keep the video as short as possible. I didn't think it would be very interesting to watch me clumsily shuffle cards.
Deck
Interesting.
At chance of StStowaway 52 ? Yes, another card game and a frustrating puzzler.
Kind regards.
