Rugby League - Goal Kicking 20 (finally back)

Was finally able to get down to the fields and do some goal kicking in what feels like months. Hopefully can get down there a bit more often and record some more videos soon!

It's good bro keep up the good work. Only thing I would say is plan, do, review. Once you set yourself to a particular style and become confident then most kicks will look the same. Then you can develop different styles for different scenarios as in right-to-left curl and left-to-right curl. These 3 setups can help you prepare to kick in most conditions. The kicks are pretty good. But rather inconsistent. Once tidied up, kicking will become a lot more beautiful than what it already is. And bro how is your knee not sore it looks like its under soo much pressure. Keep up good work man.

appreciate the tips mate, but I'm well past my time of proper goal kicking Back when i was younger I was far more consistent, but in my older years now i find it more enjoyable just trying different things otherwise i get bored and lose interest, since i'm not actually goal kicking for any real purpose other than fun.
and my knees ruined mate, my right knee the ACL has been rooted for years so because of the damage my runup and "style" i use is a must otherwise I wouldn't be able to kick at all.

I played rugby union but used to practise goal-kicking in the off-season with a rugby league ball, which was a bit more rounded than a rugby union ball. Used to slot them from all over, but then when I switched back to a rugby union ball in training, was far less accurate.

it’s actually the opposite mate, because union balls are often kicked more than a league ball they are fatter and rounder in the middle. that would also be why your kicking changed once you swapped balls. the sweet spots different and the ball would move differently in the air due to the size difference

For me personally my technique always stayed the same regardless of distance from the posts.
The thing I would change is placement of the ball. So for example from the side-line I would aim a bit outside the right post as I know my kicks usually swing late. But closer in I would aim a bit closer to the posts as there wasn't as much time for the ball in the air to swing

no you don't need to follow through on goal kicks, the follow through is purely there so your momentum doesnt come to a complete stop, but if your technique requires less momentum then theres no need to follow through
