The only other movie I saw him in was The Cook the Thief his Wife and her Lover, where the thief strips him down and force feeds him dog feces. So even in that movie, he was completely shit-faced.
Either he was pissed for real or he’s the best drunk actor I’ve ever seen, every thing from his movements to his speech patterns are absolutely spot on
@Wayne Anthony Holmes I didn't mean he made it as in produced, wrote or directed it I meant for me he was the only character in it that made it the classic it is.
Natalie in my honest opinion your uncle Willie is one of the greatest actors I have ever seen, he makes this film and he is just so naturally talented I do not think people understand how great he really was. RIP to an absolute legend.
If you didn't grow up in the 80's then you'd not realize just how realistic these schenes are .... We had plenty of places like this around South Wales ... Growing up in Pantside Newbridge , This is how it was ..... Would I go back if I could ? ...... Yes I would 👍
the Roman Road Estate in Darwen, Lancashire was like this also back in the 1980s, all sorts of crazy stuff going on that you wouldn't see in civilized middle class areas and leafy suburbs.
Willie Ross is great as Sue's dad, he does the best drunk act I've ever seen. He also played Geordie's father in Our Friends In The North. I love the old guy on the balcony, jumping up and down with excitment and shouting "You tell her,go on Sue"!
It was a rite of passage for kids back then! Bit tougher when you realise now that the story is about Bob, a predatory paedophile who preys on school girls.
Inside outside upside down No, his voice is the spit of old bloke on balcony The milkman and his Mrs are loverly folk propper old school make anyone welcome
This film should be part of the national curriculum! It’s painfully realistic it’s brilliant! Love the bikes that was me back in the day 😂Thatchers Britain at its best 😂
Oh I miss the 80's!!! All the misery and squalor of Thatcher's Britain all rolled into one film. Reality is great for films this is a classic. I especially like the old git on the council flat balcony stirring things up.
Mine's like that he's not got long now. I got in his can with him once and he collapsed sideways driving round nagshead circle. I had to shove him and get him back to the land of the living going round a roundabout, pissed as a fart.
i met Willie Ross at Belle Vue social club, Hartlepool in 1996 where he was doing a show. Brilliant! He got wasted while on stage knocking back about 5 pints.
it's been said many times, but that really is the best drunk acting I've ever seen. I love when he plonks himself down in the chair and knocks the ornaments over "they're alright"
fantastic! reminds me of home. I actually live on manningham lane, after the park. He plays a blinding role, you dont believe he's an actor when you watch it, you think he is that person.
This bloke's acting is incredible; I have NEVER seen anyone play the part of a drunk so convincingly - it's normally overacted or unreal. This bloke convinces you that he's actually pissed out his nut - He truly deserved an award (as did everyone involved for making this the funniest film I've ever had the pleasure to watch).
Awesome film ...I remember watching it with my cousin for the first time we were about 15 yrs old ..we were crying with laughter anytime Willie was on the screen ...he stole the whole film ...amazing
The beauty of these scenes is how they have the viewer rolling on the floor in fits of laughter at what would normally be considered a nightmarish situation. I've hap plenty of experiences with drunks.
Takes you back and makes you think of some of the tough times in the 1980s. Many geograhical areas across the country has derilict or deprived locations ala Council Estates and areas with social housing. Tony Blair's open-door policy on free movement ruined it all for me. We are filled with people from abroad more than ever that are housed and fed.
quality clip, the best comedy ever! The Buttershaw estate is in Bradford. Willie Ross dies a few years back - has me in stitches every time I watch it!
The actors in this film should have OSCARS / BAFTAS... 1 thing they have got, Is the memories they have given us all. FILM MEMORY OF THE CENTURY AWARD.!. ANYONE BORN BEFORE 1981. WHAT A FILM🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I lived in the next town over from Bradford growing up, and the estate they filmed this on was as bad as this film shows you. It was a rough place, yet the people were diamonds. All trying to get by due to the destruction Margaret Thatcher caused. A YTS = £15 per week, yet my rent was £35 a week. 😮
One of the most realistic drunks ever seen in a film. RIP Willie Ross.
Willie was Legendary at playing drunks.
One leg stiff the other one trying to navigate were the hell your going lol
Seen him in the clubs in the north east in the comedy duo ‘Lambert and Ross’ great act.
the actor was teetotal as well..
The only other movie I saw him in was The Cook the Thief his Wife and her Lover, where the thief strips him down and force feeds him dog feces. So even in that movie, he was completely shit-faced.
When you have grown up on a council estate this is more like a documentary than a film 😂
I did in 70's and 80's was just like this😂
😂😂 I'm dying top comment fella

He was brilliant he should've been in it more.
The balcony guy is Danny O'Dea. He played Eli in Last Of The Summer Wine for many years. He had a career of over 8 decades.
I swear if this guy wasn't absolutely pissed on set this is some of the best acting I've ever seen.
Either he was pissed for real or he’s the best drunk actor I’ve ever seen, every thing from his movements to his speech patterns are absolutely spot on
Pure acting. Willie Ross never drank alcohol. Brilliant actor playing a drunk.

That's acting! Legendary performance, what a massive talent he was.
Best of british film. Put's Hollywoods big bucks films to shame.
He deserved an award for that movie. RIP legend.

She's asking for it putting that on it lol
Worked with him on the last film he ever made up in Newcastle. Purely belter was the movie, what a nice guy. He played a recycling owner.
