You keep saying it's not beautiful! In my opinion, having straight lines to work with makes it gorgeous! Thanks so much for this informative video. Cute couple.

I'll be a young 62 in January. Living in a cargo van now while still working full time. Planning to purchase a step van in a few months and convert it into an RV.
I'm happy to have found your UA-cam channel as I hope to get healthier as well.

I also did a conversion with a 1999 Ford E350 Utilimaster. I really feel like this was the best platform for a diy RV, although I realize it’s not a favorite for these types of conversions. Anyway, I’m so happy with my choice for all the reasons you just listed.

Hi there. I'm considering different vehicles to potentially build out. A guy who lives in a step van said in one video that aluminum is resistant to WiFi signals. Have you had trouble using your devices/connecting and maintaining a connection to WiFi? Connectivity will be important to me living in a van.

I would love to do this. My dad turned an old bread truck into a camper van with Apartment size appliances inside. Wish I still had that thing😄

A big consideration when selecting a step van is the weight class and choosing one that matches your intended build. They are made in class 2-6. A class 2 is under 10,000 lbs and each class beyond that is roughly 5000 lbs heavier. You can't tell by looking at one which weight class it is except the class 2 will most likely have single rear wheels. If you have a simple light build, you do not want a class 4,5 or 6, the truck will be way overkill, uncomfortable ride, and poor MPG. the opposite is true for a heavy build in a class 2.

Since making this reply 3 months ago I purchased a 2004 Freightliner MT45, light duty, single axle class 2 step van. I've got it stripped of all the wall panels, divider wall and roll-up door, 850lbs worth. Next is to modify the wheel wells that are way bigger than they need to be. Then spray foam insulation....... The only downside to a step van for me is ride quality, it's still a big clunky, loud truck and that can't be fixed.

Great vehicle well done, just need's the front bumper to be decorated on the sides to look friendly put some kind of rubber caps or to look like a truck or van. But awesome.

Wow thanks for introducing me to the Stepvan option. Definitely can see it's advantages. About what MPG do you get for your van when fully loaded?

Your Step Van Pros and Cons video is very helpful to newbe's like me to make an important decision of selecting a vehicle to live in. It is very detailed and clear. Thank you for doing this.
I've read somewhere that people commented about the loud noise engines of step vans. What is your take on that point?
    Best wishes to you both.

Thanks for the kind words and I should be able to answer that for you. Our stepvan has a gas engine, it's a Ford E350, it is therefore much quieter than a diesel version would be. However the difference to any passenger type vehicle, pick-up or van in engine noise, is just a matter of sound insulation. Stepvans don't have much insulation, usually only a bit on the engine cover (dog house). Most vehicles though, have a combination of carpet or rubber mat with a thick felt type underlay, over the entire floor area and firewall. There are many aftermarket options available and they vary in cost, many are self adhesive, which then require some finishing product as wear surface. I looked at a bunch of options and ended up using EPDM foam puzzle mats. EPDM foam is a good thermal insulation and excellent sound insulation. I used a 1⅛" thick MMA mat over the entire floor area of the van, then topped by a 3/8" thick puzzle mat as replaceable wear surface, found cheaply in walmart or any hardware store. It works very well for sound and insulating from cold, it is comfortable to walk on barefoot even at -5 F; it was the least expensive option of insulation and finished floor; EPDM only off-gasses for a few weeks when new; it is easy to keep clean and most of all it is completely and easily removable for regular deep cleaning (spills happen :)
