The micro processor needs to be reset. Press & hold on power button for 5-10 seconds. Th power light may or may not blink. Then place battery in charger. If red charger light light’s instead of green charger light probably the fuse inside the case needs to be replaced. iTunes for that process. I had problems getting my 2.5 amh battery to even charge after use. It would show fully charged. A friend told me about the reset process & now battery so far will fully charge. Hope this helps.

I think my dad may have figured out the fix for this problem. There are 3 connectors inside the end cap of the battery and they have silicone rubber all around them. We think that the silicone rubber expands when the battery gets warm and causes intermittent loss of connection. I removed the silicone rubber and so far so good.

Couldn't agree more. I think I'm done with Ego. I have a battery that is just a little over three years old (out of warranty). Constantly getting red ring of death. It's a $400 battery. Ego won't do anything about it. You can't even get it serviced. It's just garbage now. Which means to me that Ego's products are just garbage.

As much as I would love to throw it all in the trash I just can't find a product that has that much power. It is never a good feeling that have to buy another tool because of a battery issue. It's called "voltage sag". When batteries are under high load their voltage may drop. The higher the discharge rating (C rating) the less prone they are to voltage sag. But after a few seconds of no use, or less use, the voltage should plateau back to a decent level (unless they are completely drained). I think EGO batteries are 18650 batteries, so their discharge rating is relatively low. And smaller batteries struggle with this more than big ones. But completely normal

@@FloridaFamFive Could be not thick enough wires. Wires that are too long. Or a cell could be dead. I think thats whats happening with mine. Which is why I started searching UA-cam to see if there was a fix. My big 5Ah battery is reading 2.24v on the multimeter. So I think a cell or a connection is broken. @@FloridaFamFive Just got off the phone with EGO. When you call Press 2. I was on hold for 3 minutes. They gave me an option to keep waiting (Press 0) or have them call back (Press 1). I asked for a call back. They called back, registered my mower, charger, and battery. Did a couple routine checks and then said she was shipping me a new one. I will 100% be opening this battery and checking its connections. Most of the time its 1 dead cell. Or you can even use a lipo battery charger and FORCE power into the battery with Pb (Lead) battery setting. Its dangerous, could over heat, or explode, so you need to be very careful. But I have saved many batteries this way.

Sorry to hear that. If it's under warranty they will send you a new one out. I know I have a few Ego batters that didn't even make it to but a year or two. I wish this wasn't the case. They make a great product. They do not make a good battery. I have called and talked to mangers bosses and after 3 years they won't give you a new battery. I have talk to them about trying to fix this issue. Ego batteries cost is way to high. You can buy battery with tool for about the same price. I really hope in the years to come that they will fix this issue. I believe it is just the bad wiring job as to why to stop working. This is why beating it on the floor or even taking it apart moving wires around sometimes will make it work. This is not a option for most. I know this might not help. Its great to hear about the things going on with the ego Batteries. We are all in this together.

Well, it's just the chemistry of the battery. Lithium ion has about 500-800 charge cycles. That's roughly 3 years worth of use. Plus, you store them in the garage which gets really hot in the summer. Batteries do not like heat......

@@FloridaFamFiveit's important not to overload or every alow the battery to heat up as this will degrade internal cells, it is better to have at least 2 batteries and keep swapping them over before the battery ever warms, also don't charge a hot battery. Overloading machine causes battery to heat or running for too long at one time. Charging to 100% or discharging below 20% also reduces lifespan of your battery, only store at 40-60%. Use a plug in timer to shut off charger earlier than a full charge would normally take. If all that fails accept that an extension cord machine would be a lot cheaper option though it's more dangerous to work with mains powered equipment and avoiding cutting your flex cable.

These machines, while very convenient, are obviously throw aways. It's because the workload is too much for the battery, always go for the higher current rated batteries at least 4 amp as it is under less than 60% stress than the 2.5 amp equivalent pack, a mower draws a lot of current which will cause heating, heat is the enemy of lithium ion battery cells, a 4amp battery even thought a lot more expensive has double cells, 20 x 4 volt parallel cells instead of 10 x 4 volt cells, this shares the burden of half's the load on each cell. It's nothing to do with what brand of mower you buy it's just physics, batteries are ready damaged by abuse and will degrade over time, In reality not a cheap way to mow your lawn, if it's a small lawn cut regularly in dry conditions with a sharp blade etc it may be viable.
