They're rather sociable and seem to remember human's they've seen, sometimes flying quite close to a frequent admirer . We've had them whistle to get attention when flying overhead undetected. They generally mate for life and their mutual companionship is very charming to watch. Like most near-apex predators, they tend to be calm and relaxed even while their head movement presents intense observational behavior.
So interesting! Thanks for your fascinating share and observations! Wonderful contribution enriching the channel experience for me and all learners/viewers!
I have tons of them by me, in IL. Rarely did I see in NE. I've had one on my deck railing, and noticed one on top of one of my bird feeder hooks. I was just happy to see it leave, so I could get my pretty song birds back!❤! That's quite some growth you have on your face, Frank!
Frank, such a great video! I loved all of the information! ❤ Thank you for all of the work and time that you take to do all of your videos, I want you to know it is very much appreciated ❤ have a great weekend.
This was a good one, Frank! Thanks for sharing. I photograph them here in Central Florida, they aren't as common here as they are in other areas and they just make me happy every time I see them. Thanks again!
200 pounds force per square inch at 5:40 is wrong because it’s a point load and not an area load, so it’s more like a needle and closer to 1000’s of pounds. Red Tailed Hawks are one of my favorite hawks. So beautiful!
Hawks and raptors are so beautiful and regal. We have a lot in my area, which has a large creek and is part of the Delaware Valley River watershed. I often see them cruising the thermals or stealing peanuts from my perch feeder. Maybe you can talk about the Osprey at some point? They were plentiful along the Rappahanock and Rapidan. Thank you again for another informative video!
I would be mesmerized and not able to stop smiling either by the beauty of this beautiful bird and close view. There is so much information in your videos that I have to watch them multiple times to grasp all the great facts. Thanks for all the time you take to make these videos and share your knowledge.
Ah! What a great compliment....I am told by youtube experts my channel will never get big because I cover so many topics...but like a true naturalist I love covering all things living!! Thanks for kind words!
Thanks Mr. Taylor, that was very interesting. I live in the country surrounded by farms so I can see Red Tailed Hawks everywhere. They are usually perched on a fence line or on top of a hay bale.
I love hawks❣️ whenever I go on long drives they always appear, I'm Cherokee Indian native and they are like my guide that I'm on the right path. Thank you for another very interesting video 🙏
Thank you Shayla! Your Cherokee heritage is awesome! I try to dig some background on indigenous peoples uses of trees and plants whenever I can! Thanks for your support!
Great video! Very informative. Thank you for uploading. I live next door to these wetlands, and today when I was taking our dogs out, I heard all of these crows going wild up in a tree. I looked up and there was this red-tailed hawk. It was so neat to see that beautiful bird. Love nature ❤ Btw, we have two dogs. A lab and a chihuahua mix. Sometimes I walk them separately. Would a hawk fly down and try to do anything to my small dog when I'm out walking him?
What a lovely and informative video. I used to think these were eagles. Lol! While I was out shopping in the city (vey urban), when I got back to my car, there was one of these on the ground just walking and minding her own little business in front of the car right next to mine. I took pictures and a video that I have not shared in my channel, but did shared one of the pictures in my "Community Tab" where in its comments section, I was told that it's a hawk. That's when I learned she was a hawk and not an eagle. Thanks for the share, Frank. Full watched and L73. Cheers!
Red Tails are Fantastic birds of Prey Hundreds of epic pics of them,Doves,Snakes,Possums, squirrels you name it. Maybe some day I will look into Falconry ?
Thank you so much for your video…tonight this similar bird perched on my balcony since I think it came to hunt for the baby pigeon that fell a few days ago from the balcony above me…its just trying to fly now, hopefully. Poor bird…I hope it will survive once it leaves.
Pretty incredible isn't it! Not just not protected but a belief that predators are bad and we will pay people for their carcasses. Some of the data I saw was absolutely staggering!
I just had a red tailed hawk kill one of my chickens 😭 I saw it overhead and then 20 minutes later when out to check on the hens and one of them had been mauled. But I love red tailed hawks and watching this made me feel better. We all gotta eat right?
We have two of them flying around our garden area Ughhhhh… think they have a nest near us, the noise they make is unbearable to my ears, non stop… plus my neighbors with small dogs are terrified to walk their dogs, I’ve also noticed all my little birds are so few now, and I haven’t seen the lil bunny’s either… Ive had it these dinosaur birds!!!
Such beautiful birds/raptors. I live in Central/West Indiana and it always makes me smile to see one.
@raywalsh9152 yes! I never get tired of seeing them!

I'm not particularly fond of most birds, but I absolutely love the raptors. They're so majestic!
They really are! Absolutely regal!

Just saw one of these today up close in a hike. Looked up what it was and found this video to learn about them. Great content!
That's awesome you saw one up close!

Awe Rose! You just make my day! It makes all my work with worthwhile...for this only!
The sound Hollywood use for an Eagle call is really the call of the Red Tail Hawk
Ha! Yes! This is true!
Hi Frank. Awsome video. Im jealous you got to hold a red tail. They are awsome. God bless my friend. Pennsylvania buddy Jeff 😊
It was absolutely incredible...and when he turned and looked me in the eye...just wow!
You are a true naturalist! Thanks for your informative videos!

@thehillbillyhoarder4996 god bless you too, hillybillyhoarder!
1:31 Very true. I saw this red-tail girl going for a duck that was paddling in the Turtle Pond in Central Park the other day. Unsuccessful though!
I just went by that pond a couple hours ago!!!
Taking my swiss nephew on a bit of a usa tour with 3 days in NYC!
Thanks Mr. Taylor, that was very interesting. I live in the country surrounded by farms so I can see Red Tailed Hawks everywhere. They are usually perched on a fence line or on top of a hay bale.
They love to hunt from those perches!
Thanks for the video. We have these on our ranch in the Texas Hill Country. They're magnificent birds
Yes they are! Cool how they exist across habitats!
Great talk. Did you read Hook the story of a Red Tailed, by Tillburg Clark??
I have not! But I will look it up! Thanks for heads up!

Beautiful
Thank you!
I wish I lived in VA where you live.
I admit ..very beautiful here at my house at 2700 ft not far from blue ridge parkway!
Frank. A couple years ago I was releasing pheasants. For hunting. A red tail took it right out of the air. 😊
Oh my gosh! That is wild! I woke up this morning to a red tail calling out side my window!
Thank you so much for your video…tonight this similar bird perched on my balcony since I think it came to hunt for the baby pigeon that fell a few days ago from the balcony above me…its just trying to fly now, hopefully. Poor bird…I hope it will survive once it leaves.
There is high mortality among juveniles that are still learning to hunt successfully.
I think it’s beautiful. 😊
Yes!
It must have been cool to be that close to a huge hawk like that, those sharp talons and beak are intimidating...
Very cool! Priceless!
That's horrifying! We can't go back and slap our ancestors in the heads but I wish we could! I love birds of prey!
Pretty incredible isn't it! Not just not protected but a belief that predators are bad and we will pay people for their carcasses. Some of the data I saw was absolutely staggering!
Where are their ears? Like the video
Underneath the feathers!
And thank you!
My Saying! Up Close And Personal!
Lol! 😉
In California its my favorite hawk.
Such an amazing range! Coast to coast!
This bird is surprisingly large. I usually see them from afar.
They really are BIG! 🙂👍
A wild red tailed came and Let my friend and I hold it in Weston West Virginia I’ll never forget that day
Wow! What an experience!
they are not too friendly, I saw one today eating a loon and after it was done, it approached me and swerved 5 ft away
@seinundzeiten They are wild animals and top predators after all but no need to fear.
Thats the biggest red tail I've ever seen
She was imposing!

Yes. You sound like a wise philosopher! Sorry about your chickens. I hope that was just a one time event by an especially opportunistic hawk.
Great video. But l don’t like them
@roseizsvak5051 ha! Is it because they eat your chickens? Once known as the chicken hawk I believe?
Hate them. They kill all our cats and the neighbors.
No! Really? I haven't heard of that!
