1:18 What Zant says here is really interesting. "We soon knew neither anger nor hatred... nor even the faintest bloom of desire." It sounds like the Twili were becoming emotionless. Was Zant considered dangerous by the royal family because of the powerful emotions he displays? Kind of a Spock and Vulcan situation?
this sound like an really sad thing that the twili were became emotionless by the royal family for avoid them being an threat also in game you can see the twili when get healed by the sol power they look souless like
No he's a fascist. He resents the peace that arose from his culture advancing beyond the desire to conquer the world as a necessary consequence of their previous defeat. He wants to return to the glory days of Napoleon-esque conquest, and he characterizes a lack of unquenchable lust for power as being the same as lacking emotion entirely. We can tell he's objectively wrong because we can observe plenty of emotion in Midna, just not the raging evil kind.

As far as the scimitars go, you get the impression that that’s his first time having to fight like that ever. Seriously, walking forward chopping with both arms like that is like how bad fighters windmill their arms.
@I'm Right You're Wrong I mean idk man, as you saw in the fight itself, Zant is his own worst enemy, yeah he had magical powers and they are pretty good, at the same time, he doesnt have a modicum of physical ability, as shown when he wore himself out after a solid 10 seconds of utilizing the power he was given. If he had the physical prowess to go along with the magical prowess then he would be the perfect enemy. But as you said Link is similar in the fact that he has a magical sword imbued with light that only he can use, but a vast majority of his successes can be directly attributed to the fruit of his physical prowess and skill with his given equipment. Hell he manages to learn ancient hidden abilities in a matter of seconds while training with the Hero of Time (Hero's shade). So he definitely has a massive amount of talent as well.
Zant is a bit childish shown by his insanity to throw tantrums at times. So he may have no idea how to use swords and just swiped and twirled with them to land cheap hits on Link.
I love how the battle theme starts off intense and then slowly becomes more fast paced, which reflects how Zant seemed like a very intimidating and threatening character at first but turned out to be a complete psycho as we see in the cutscene before the fight. Zelda music has always been clever like that.
I like the idea of Zant being revealed as crazy behind his stoic facade, but I wish they actually built up to it, like we gradually see the pieces of sanity breaking until he’s fully insane

Ghirahim is the reverse of Zant. Zant is portrayed as a menacing threat with a stoic facade before being revealed to be a useless, impotent manchild throwing literal toddler tantrums who was mooching off of Ganondorf's power the whole time. I always sort of pitied Zant. Deep down, he just felt his people were cheated and mistreated, and wanted justice and freedom. But in the end, he was always a slave. To Ganondorf, and his own lust for power.
Wrong. Zant only desired power, to rule, to dominate. He only served the Royal Family in hopes he would be given the throne. When he wasn't, he decided to take it. Power for the sake of power, that was what Zant desired.

For such an insane guy Zant’s battle technique bringing Link back to previous boss rooms is quite creative Also lol at the beginning when Zant is having his tantrum he looks like he’s trying to perform CPR

From a gameplay perspective it’s really cool, but common sense-wise, Zant’s copying fools that we’d already beaten previously. If it didn’t work for them why would it work for him?
I'll disagree on the point of "Zant copying the bosses, he's uncreative". Yes, he's using arenas in a similar way to the boss of said arena, but at the same time he's trying to shift the arena constantly, to try to throw Link off his game, and surprise him. He's also adding his own technique into the mix to further surprise and intimidate Link. Think back to his conquest of ALL of Hyrule: he didn't do a prolonged, slow, "honorable" war. He used surprise, ruthlessness and intimidation to win. Zant is sticking to what he knows will win: Surprise tactics (teleporting all over the world, as well as teleporting in the arenas themselves), Ruthless onslaughts of magic (all his magical powers), and Intimidation (Using his helmet underwater, growing larger in the Ice arena, the fear of falling off in the goron arena, trying to present himself as this daunting, unbeatable foe).
When Zant uses his own version of the spin attack, you can return in kind with your own, with the possible chance of dizzying him and leaving him open to attack.

True power comes from the heart and self, as well as humility, such as with Link and his courage and bravery to stand up for Hyrule. True power doesn't go to the head. Zant in truth is a very weak individual who lusts for power, but doesn't have any aside from that which was artificially granted to him by Ganon. He is a manchild in reality who snaps as his inability to have power, and throws an extended temper tantrum over his inability to have power over the Twilight Realm. Those who lust for power are in truth weak spirited, and try to force power unto others or find ways to artificially gain a sense of strength in order to feel powerful. @@delayni638 I'm sure he means that instead of releasing the game on altered motion controls, he means on it's original platform with the original controls.
@@jimmytran3350 I think they're hesitant about skyward sword because it's so hard to redo controls when the whole game's centred around you controlling the sword with the wiimote and with all the motion controlled actions. I guess you could use a joy-con for that, but then again, if so many people hated the motion controls... You get the idea. Idk how they would fix that
I miss these badass cinematic fights from older Zelda titles. BotW and TotK have so much that's great to them, but never had moments like this. The culmination of an emotional and incredible journey with arena spanning fights, way more character moments to develop Link as a character, the multitude of cool gadgets you'd get to creatively use, etc. Love both sides of the franchise, but ill always prefer old Zelda.
Zant may have had a goofy fighting style but his power made up for it. The dude should had been the final boss. In the last phase he just goes crazy on you.
Agree, but power? Lol fella; he dishes out max 1 hrt of damage. A Breath Lynel on average deals 6-8 hts. Calamity Ganon deals 5 hts when you're defense rating it 80 (2/3rds of max)
@@shyguyrocks1 And an old grandad's one at that. That's what puts this game down for me and below Ocarina. Keep your villain constant. If Zant was his own enitiy, it would have made him far more iconic. Ghirahim has more personality and power even though he's a Sword, it's clever and very arrogant, how villains should be. Zant was sadly killed by Miyamoto in the end to being a colossal suck-up and bottle job
I really want him as a character in smash ultimate bc his design and character is so good but I doubt it’ll happen bc they removed all tp designs and he’s just not that wanted by many people
He went from the coolest villain ever designed in the franchise to a joke in the short span of this encounter. He should have stayed stoic and be the true final boss (a real breath of fresh air to an overly Ganon saturated franchise).
Because A) he's absolutely insane and B) He actually tried to use physical attacks on us when we have a sword that literally is made to kill things like him. And the dudes clearly not a close fighter. All he did with the swords was flail it arround like a little kid. Plus he has like zero stamina and it only takes him 10 secs for him to be out of breath. Close combat was his biggest mistake.
I’ve always loved this battle because it’s still sort of a boss rush, but done in a unique way. It showcases Zant and his insanity as something which has been driving the plot from the very beginning of your adventure.
Also kind of neat how after the familiar settings and similar mechanics, he takes us to Hyrule for a caged duel. It tips off how the next and final boss will end while still making Zant look absolutely manic.
"In the shadows we regressed, so much that we soon knew neither magic nor hatred, nor even the faintest bloom of desire". Maybe Zant was not such a psychopath, he just could not bear with such stillness.
The saddest thing about Zant is you can tell he isn't a warrior, just somebody desperate to be somebody. Especially in the final fight scene, Link completely decimates him despite Zant being way more powerful.
Way more powerful is debatable. Ultimately, his power came from Ganon, who we know to be at best a fickle, deceptive master. Zant had potent magic, yes, but absolutely no experience using it whatsoever, and his swordfighting is a literal child throwing a tantrum. He has raw power, sure, but he wields it like a giant club versus Link's blade as a scalpel - precise and consistent; even then, I'm not sure he's "way more powerful." His attacks don't do that much damage, and he's so wacked out that he can't even try doing anything with finesse with them.
It's the screams after you hit in the very last phase where it feels like he's not only completely losing his composure trying to kill you, but that he's defaulted to insane and wild slashing to kill you. No more illusions, no more false power, this is all he's got. Slicing and slashing like a fucking psycho--really driving home Twilight Princess as one of the darker entries in the franchise.
Fighting Zant felt like arguing with a hyperactive child, that ate too much sugar. But on the other hand ... he was just desperate and alone and met the wrong person in the wrong moment ...
I love this boss battle one of the best Zelda bosses But that Zant music gives me anxiety I think that something or someone will jump scare me at any moment
Whith his mask he might be like Darth Vader, but without it he's like Jar Jar Binks... ... but evil (and intelligent) And that's what I love about Zant. This plottwist when he turns out to be a psychopath is simply amazing and that's why he's my favorite Zelda character with Link.
It should be obvious to everyone that the Twili were ancient Shiekah, banished from Hyrule for trying to overthrow the Hylian Kingdom with dark magic, and considering Zants frantic attitude, and Midna's helmet, it should be very obvious to everyone that the Twili were the dark tribe who created Majora's Mask. This Links sword glows in the presence of Twilight bc he baptised his sword in light. So in BotW when you're around *malice* the same Mastersword glows, bc it's being exposed to the same dark Calamity Ganon uses as this Ganondorf uses, the difference is, his Twili fused magic banded with Shiekah technology (remember, the same tribe)creating a direct correlation between Twili magic and Calamity Ganons body, himself, including extensions of his body, via Blights, and Malice controlled enemies. In other words....sending Ganondorf to the Twili realm was the absolute worst thing they could've done, bc it just fucked the next 10,000 years of Hyrule. And boy, am I fucking excited for the BotW sequel. Dark Lord Ganondorf is returning!
I like how its clear zant has no idea how to actually fight. Hes just bouncing around and shooting orbs for a while and when that doesnt work he starts wildly swinging around two swords like a lunatic. He has no tactics, no strategy, no combat techniques, he exhausts himself mid battle, all hes got is magic and arrogance.

8:50 In this part you can see how Zant was totally desperate to try something, he was already totally out of his senses and was attacking erratically and randomly.
Yeah…he’s basically thinking “shit, What to do now….Screw it imma swing my blades and hope one of em cuts his head clean off”
the music is incredible
I was thinking the same thing. It's like remixed haha
no tf lol
Twilight Princess honestly has the best sound track in Zelda game, including BotW for me.
The monkey part is where I laugh the most lol.
I don't know why but I can hear a tabla (an indian instrument , a bit like a drum , but you use it without sticks ) .
the neck and the twisting are so uncomfortable
The way he shrieks like that is also super unsettling, and his weird whines
They should re-release this game on switch that way you can play on GameCube controller
Uh this game definitely came out on gamecube lmao
@@delayni638 I'm sure he means that instead of releasing the game on altered motion controls, he means on it's original platform with the original controls.
This, skyward sword and windwaker to Switch please. Would be Great in this time 🙏
I mean, swithh has so many weird remakes and other low quality games.
Idk how they would fix that
the minute he stops floating up to “ursurper king zant” with the beginning of his theme was so badass.
While Zant was a silly boss, at least he was more of a challenge than Master Kohga in “Breath of the Wild”
If master kohga isn't stupid, i believe he is stronger than lynel
@@Brightsonp that wasnt the point
I literally beat Kohga first attempt knowing nothing about the boss without taking damage and fighting Zant I died

Definitely the scariest boss in my opinion. I remember being like 10 or 11 and dreading this fight because it creeped me out so much.

This fight was always fun! I also loved Zants screams and screeches
Same, I need a linear 3d zelda again 😂
12:25 the look on Link's face after Midna killed Zant.
Link was like DAAAAFAQQQQQQ ?? 🤣😂😂🤣
Well we cannot deny one thing. The Twilight People actually had real magic. And pretty cool magic too. Bloody Zanz Gun shooting red bullets ^^
The curse you placed on phillip
Zant may have had a goofy fighting style but his power made up for it. The dude should had been the final boss. In the last phase he just goes crazy on you.
Divine_Wrath
His "power" wasn't his though. It was Ganon's
No one is talking about BOTW
@@tenmod1419 So? These are facts, why depend or wait for others?
I really want him as a character in smash ultimate bc his design and character is so good but I doubt it’ll happen bc they removed all tp designs and he’s just not that wanted by many people

I thought this dude was gonna be some stoic badass, then he started flapping and sqwaking like a bird.
He went from the coolest villain ever designed in the franchise to a joke in the short span of this encounter. He should have stayed stoic and be the true final boss (a real breath of fresh air to an overly Ganon saturated franchise).
Oh yes, Phillip, the guy who saves Zelda every time, that Phillip 😂
Hey, he could be named for the Phillips CD-i. You never know :P
how this man have all this magic and still get his ass whooped smh lol
Because A) he's absolutely insane and B) He actually tried to use physical attacks on us when we have a sword that literally is made to kill things like him. And the dudes clearly not a close fighter. All he did with the swords was flail it arround like a little kid. Plus he has like zero stamina and it only takes him 10 secs for him to be out of breath. Close combat was his biggest mistake.
Nabi When he teleported to the castles, he had no idea what to do next. So he just pulled out two scimitars and start doing whatever he can.
I liked how it's not until this point in the game that you grasp just how truly insane he his.
One of my favorite Zeldies. I just wish the Twilight realm temple was a little more fun.
Zant is underrated. I love how nutty his fight is
1:06 I never reached this part before. I never knew his helmet could retract like that! Like the jaffa helmets in the Stargate movie.
Links reaction at 12:12 is the reason I live for this game lol

12:23 LOL I wasn't expecting that
Popped like a balloon
I’ve always loved this battle because it’s still sort of a boss rush, but done in a unique way. It showcases Zant and his insanity as something which has been driving the plot from the very beginning of your adventure.
Also kind of neat how after the familiar settings and similar mechanics, he takes us to Hyrule for a caged duel. It tips off how the next and final boss will end while still making Zant look absolutely manic.
10:41
"REEEEEE! stupid.. nigga!"
I cant unhear it now
noodlenoose XD
noodlenoose LMAO how do no one else hear that. Wow just wow lol.
It’s so funny I keep replaying it in different speeds
Nintendo had a dark secret here
Zant was pretty intimidating until he took off his helmet.
"In the shadows we regressed, so much that we soon knew neither magic nor hatred, nor even the faintest bloom of desire". Maybe Zant was not such a psychopath, he just could not bear with such stillness.
Even at the time of making this, I always found Zant to be one of the strangest Zelda bosses
Not Majora?
“When your boss has too much phases”
I can relate to that.
Wish they made more Zelda games like this. The dark esthetic ages really well
The saddest thing about Zant is you can tell he isn't a warrior, just somebody desperate to be somebody.
Hahahahahaha zant trying to swim away
I love how u have to give yourself a migraine to knock him off the pillar
i love the song remixes along with his song
It's the screams after you hit in the very last phase where it feels like he's not only completely losing his composure trying to kill you, but that he's defaulted to insane and wild slashing to kill you. No more illusions, no more false power, this is all he's got. Slicing and slashing like a fucking psycho--really driving home Twilight Princess as one of the darker entries in the franchise.
10:42 we not gonna discuss this huh
Fighting Zant felt like arguing with a hyperactive child, that ate too much sugar.
But on the other hand ... he was just desperate and alone and met the wrong person in the wrong moment ...
I love this boss battle one of the best Zelda bosses
But that Zant music gives me anxiety I think that something or someone will jump scare me at any moment
10:43 Did he say the N word? o_o

@@zack-qb1xq hahaha yes
This fight is actually more fun than the actual final fight
Nah
Whith his mask he might be like Darth Vader, but without it he's like Jar Jar Binks...
... but evil (and intelligent)
And that's what I love about Zant. This plottwist when he turns out to be a psychopath is simply amazing and that's why he's my favorite Zelda character with Link.
Playing this made me realize he's like Hyness' inspiration from Kirby, given how batshit insane he is.
12:26 link is just like, "holy shit"
I always thought them gerudo seeing as they're missing
9:30 Words cannot express how hard I’m laughing at this chicken dance fighting style
Am I nuts or do I remember Zant snapping his own neck instead of Midna killing him?
OP here.. Turns out I was remembering the end of the Ganondorf battle
I played throught this game multiple times when i was a kid. Now watching back, im wondering how my favourite game didn't traumatize me

Ghirahim wins out of sheer FABULOUSNESS
Ganon blessed twili sorcerrer vs living dark master sword
Ghirahim. Because, he's a sword spirit. Zant is mental with a sword, but he'd be quite outmatched due to the former's knowledge of the sword.
I much prefer ghirahim because even if he has a narcisistic complex he is a better fighter
