Had to have a MRI on my back. This dropped minutes before they slid me back in the tube. I replayed it in my mind while in the "coffin" and all the noise that goes with it. Was so relaxed I fell asleep. So thank you.
Hi Ross, I hope your back gets better soon as I do know what it's like though I ended up going to a chiropractor which I have to say has been the best thing I ever did as it sorted out the pain for me... All the very best Davie
@@DavieMcPhail Thanks. I am going to have to have surgery. But I’m ready. Wading has become a problem and painful. The upside is I’ll be out of action for 6 to 8 weeks so lots of time to tie flies. And watch all your videos over again.
Fabulous tie, Davie. I find that a sparser wing tends to get eaten more, but it could just be what I am confident presenting, always quartering downstream to the rising fish. They see the fly before the leader.. Al Caucci and Bob Nastasi designed this fly to perfectly mimic mayfly duns from below while being durable and somewhat easy to tie. It is a fabulous fly, one that can stand up to multiple fish without damage.
@@ross1458 You are 100% correct. They took an existing design and modified it. Along these same lines, the tail was modified from a clump of deer hair into individual tails.
@@RedFeatherAngler yep. Mr Better’s wasn’t the best tyer I’ve ever seen but he was an innovator. Many of his designs were “rough”. I tie my Haystacks with groundhog hair. Much neater and floats well in broken water. On C&R waters it’s the Comparadun by a mile.
Hi @ricellinson, Over the years I have bought materials from many places from my local tackle shop to game fairs..Most recently I have bought from Glasgow Angling Centre,Fulling Mill, Cookshill Tackle, Premier Angling in Ireland and Ebay...I'm glad you enjoy the videos.. All the very best Davie..
Hey davie, I have a question and I figured you'd be the man to ask. I bought some synthetic dubbing but the fibres are very long and I find it unusable, do you have any advice to make it useable?
Hi @NLFlyFisher, I would cut it to a length of about an inch and a half long or so as it will make it easier to dub though make sure you mix it well..The other way is to blend it with a softer dubbing like rabbit or even wool as this makes a good dubbing as well.. All the very best Davie
Top draw fly again davie, well done , it’s competition for that favourite dynamite harry - would it be possible to blend your own dubbing mix do you think .?
Hi Jamie, I would normally tye for at least 6 to 8 hours a day depending on the flies I was tying though many a time I would tye a little longer to get an order finished..I have stopped taking orders now so I only tye to suit myself and my UA-cam channel.. All the very best Davie

Don't want to start a fight, but they based the Compara dun on Fran Betters Haystack.

Another masterpiece. Dohiku also makes a nice short shank hook also. What time of the year is best to fish this fly?
