    Her character's always had so much depth. She was so good a being the lone woman standing.

    I read the book and watched the film (both excellent) but at the end of it all, I never understood why she felt the need to have so many children in the first place. She had a ridiculous number of kids, no wonder she felt overwhelmed.

    I watched the film many years ago.Do I remember correctly that she was trying to arrange an abortion at the beginning and the audience was tittering. My girlfriend declared loud enough to be heard:"these people are imbeciles. Now that I find it is a Harold Pinter play I will be watching it again. I don't enjoy Pinter that much but he certainly makes me think. He must have know a woman like this.
