This is literally the best 1/10th scale monster truck!! Haven’t broke anything on mine and I full send this thing every time. it takes it like it’s nothing 🤘🏼
I'm hard to please when it comes to MT selections. I got the Losi 3XLE and the XMaxx.. Cause both can make my day at any day. But this Maxx beast absolutely outclass its 1/10 scale by a land slide.. Unmatched Speed & Torque out of the box. Thank you for the infos bro. Imma buy this beast asap.
I've seen many and this is the best review of this truck on UA-cam. It's extremely comprehensive, unbiased, and I seriously doubt any other channels will be able to top it. Excellent job. Maybe customizing the Maxx will make good content for future vids.
I dont see much enginering in traxxas vehicules honestly. Slash reshells most of their stuff. Only the udr was really sonething new the maxx is just a shrunk xmaxx easy to make
At least this overpriced beast doesnt break like the other cars they made all the traxxas i oned i had to deal with the stupid driveshafts breaking like sticks
I was going to say you are a little slow to release this video, but this by far is the most well thought out video I’ve seen. Well done. I like that you opened it up to show the driveline parts. I’ve been driving mine for a couple of weeks now and I love it. I got one from my LHS with the lights. They also have brake lights on the back that work while braking, even if you are braking in reverse. They also have a low beam, high beam, off option for the front, with the brake and reverse lights still working regardless of the front light mode. I have yet to brake anything on my truck, but I did notice today one of the c clips from a u joint missing. The pin didn’t fall out because it was trapped by the hub. I’ll call traxxas tomorrow and see if they will send me another one. Anyway, really good video, thank you.
I’ll be considering this truck over the winter for my next years fleet. I’ve sold off a bunch of old rc and parts to make room for next year haha. This was a great review. I think for the price you are getting quite a bit! Aluminum big bore shocks, nice tires and body is amazing, a scaled down strong xmaxx chassis, literally erevo 2.0 diffs and kush drive, a tqi tsm system. The esc we will have to see how it holds up but Traxxas does make a pretty good brushless motor. So for the price it’s not horrible I guess if anything id just like it a bit bigger I think.
The lights should come as standard with EVERY MAXX for the $549 asking price, not just the first run that hit hobby stores. Especially considering the new proprietary plugs force you to either buy adapters to use your existing batts (which adds resistance), or buy new batts and charger. Otherwise, I agree it should be a $499 truck.
Its specifcly made to steal your money they want you to buy their lipo and charger and that alone is like 200$ It rolls over they sell you the wide kit the wide kit breaks the shafts they offer you the steel dog bones ffs 1000$ rc get a 1/5 scale instead at that point🤦♂️ Nothing is a deal with traxxas always a catch unless you buy used
I haven't seen any other high end hobby off road 4x4 come with lights or offer it as an option for that matter. Traxxas has the summit 1/10 with lights for $500 but that is brushed motor so I'm fine with the $150 more for my maxx with lights also have a summit 1/16 with lights
Not all of us. I have precisely zero interest in this thing. It's gonna need upgraded driveshafts, tires, servo, ESC, body before it will be as reliable as, say, an Arrma Granite 3S is right out of the box. Not only that, but I'm one of the very few nitro nuts left around. I don't care about the objective advantages of electric, I care about the grin factor of having a genuine internal combustion engine in my RCs. Even if Traxxas pulled a complete 180 and made a genuinely skookum truck with the 1/10 MAXX, it still wouldn't interest me on the basis of being electric. I don't want electric. I want nitro. And Traxxas' engine is ABSOLUTE IRREDEEMABLE GARBAGE! I tried my best to get a TRX3.3 to live a decent life when I bought a Slayer Pro with a blown engine. Rebuilt it, threw a Davis Diesel rod in it, broke it in nice, it lived all of a gallon before the main bearings shit the bed. Yeeted it into the fuckit buckit and put a Dynamite 19T 5-port in that truck instead. More power, better reliability, more stable tune...fuck yeah bb. As for the slayer...it was factory stock when I got it. So far I've had to replace: * Entire clutch * 2-speed gearing in transmission * Brake pad fell apart one day. Literally just shat the lining out the bottom of the truck. * Engine * I had to solder over the polyfuse in the 2075x servo steering the thing. Waiting on the gearing to fail... * Body is intact because I don't actually run that body at all. I built a body out of foamboard instead. * One yoke, rear right. * Wheels and tires. I think the only reason I haven't had to replace the driveshafts in my Slayer is precisely because it's nitro. They're strong enough for that. They're **not** strong enough for electric. Slash 4x4 owners will confirm this; put 3s through those plastic driveshafts and they start failing, 4s and they shatter pretty much first run every time. And the Slash puts a hell of a lot less stress on them than the MAXX will due to having less weight and less traction.
@@AW-Luke Nitros are great when the engines aren't engineered by the accounting department. Problem is, that's who engineered the TRX2.5 and 3.3. That's why they don't last as long as engines from OS or Dynamite, why they have fragile conrods that snap for no reason, why they don't hold a tune very well. I have an OS car engine that's over ten years old and still chucks out enough power to break whatever driveline I throw at it. The Dynamite 19T 5-port I replaced my 3.3 with pulls small wheelies in an 8lb shortcourse truck. Even the offshore engines in my aircraft are great; my Magnum 52RFS is a chinese clone of an OS and it runs just as well as the OS does. And all of these engines bring along exceptional reliability; they're more reliable than anything Chrysler Corporation has sold in the past 30 years or so. Traxxas engines are hot garbage but nitro in general is fucking awesome. There's something nice about having a genuine engine in the car that no amount of stupid over-torque can ever replace. Well, that, and my nitro cars don't eat driveshafts like candy, which is nice. Would do if they were brushless.
You have to toe the line when reviewing Traxxas products or they'll blacklist you and you'll never get review samples again. Why you'll almost never see any of these review channels call a spade a spade when it comes to Traxxas. Simply too expensive to buy them retail to review them; plus if you don't get your review out first you lose a shitton of traffic which becomes absolutely impossible to do when you have to buy retail since review samples ship out well in advance of public launch. I'm free to talk as much shit as I want to about my Slayer Pro because I bought that bitch with my own hard earned greenbacks, but a review channel...they can't do that. They can't be like 'ok guys the engine in this thing is an utter piece of shit, the servo has a polyfuse on it that's gonna fail in the first summer run you make, the tires suck ass, the clutch is weak, the transmission's made of glass, the body's as durable as a wet newspaper, the radio feels like you could crush it pulling full throttle too aggressively....' . They can't say that like I can because they won't get the next TRX product to review unless they buy it retail with their own money.

In rough terrain when your ripping around with some light and medium jumps, 3S battery is best in my opinion. Less rolls and more control. 3S 6700 mAh will last a long time as well. Great review on the truck, it really takes a beating.
Even though I’m excited about this truck, composite plastic drive shafts are very disappointing, the drive shafts are always the first thing to get shredded on these trucks steel cvds or metal dog bones should come stock nowadays !
My plastic shafts did fine until I installed the widemaxx kit. That destroyed them pretty much. It extends them too much so I had to install the Traxxas metal CVD's.
I havent heard any problems about them breaking easily, widemaxx kit could change the situation, but if you are going to use it stock with either a 3s or a 4s, it should last w.o problems.
What brand and model would you recommend as the toughest one out there? There are no spare parts where I’m at so definitely need something bullet proof! Cheers
@@sebs6736 Max. Parts support would be #1 for Traxxas. Keep it stock though since it will run fine like that. The Granite V3 BLX is also another tank. Parts support is pretty good for Arrma
Bob Billy to me it’s worth it, had no problems with it. Now I’m getting the wide stance setup and metal upgrades, it’s a beast on 4s. It didn’t come out until fall so I’m looking forward to spring, I’ve driven once in the snow, still even in the cold nothing broke. Clipless body definitely is sweet. I own a stampede, two slash’s, XMaxx a UDR and one Arrma notorious, so I’m kinda biased
jarrett maltry it’s awesome, I’ve put the wide kit w/ wide steel axles on it, only ever broke a couple of axles pins when it was stock. I can’t complain. Lots of videos on my channel from when it first released
Wow what a beast! I’ve seen a couple reviews on the Maxx and after seeing some of the airs you put in through I’m going to have to get one! Thx for the great video break down😁👍

@@bobtawilger359 well if you are open, look at the kraton 6s by arrma. Same price as this, 1/8th scale (bigger) and will outlast the maxx in fun factor. Main thing is price, if the maxx was cheaper then idk.
Also i think what Traxxas needs to do for there oil filled differentials. Is to vent them when ever you have enclosed moving parts. It needs to be vented so pressure doesn’t build up. And causes leaks.
You do understand why Traxxas make the battery mount that way...right.. Just say it then, because they want to sell overpriced batteries also. I really dislike companies going that way but sure, I do understand it also. I also understand why so many more would be happier with this truck if they can fit their own batteries in without modding.
Proprietary connectors, proprietary battery compartments, proprietary servo sizes, proprietary wheel hubs, proprietary body mounts. They don't want to work well with others. If Traxxas had their way, they would be the only option for your RC and your RC parts. That attitude is not good for the hobby as a whole.
SMC 7200mah batteries fit just fine as do others. That 285oz servo is upgradable if needed. The hexes don't prevent other wheels from being used. They just prevent stripping the stock wheels. Some like the clipless body. Some don't. Same with the newbie friendly battery plugs which can be bypassed. No other RC brand can compare to the large amount of other companies that support Traxxas with various custom options. So "don't want to work well with others" is an odd comment.
@@nobodynoone3428 Ok, well just go to the Traxxas forums and look up any post where people ask for advice on parts. All of the companies that Traxxas doesn't want you to see, they are the ones censored with the "*********", those are apparently people that Traxxas doesn't get along with and the list is apparently quite long as it's a bit hilarious trying to decipher posts when so much of the content is redacted. Just saying, I know of no other companies that actively show their animosity toward others like they do.
@@nemocheerio You keep posting assumptions. Anyway, I don't go to brand specific forums, but obviously a sensible person can understand them wanting people to buy their own parts just like every company does. This is a business after all. The point is many times you don't have to. You can even build some Traxxas kits without using any Traxxas parts. The sheer amount of non-Traxxas branded options compared to other RC companies is remarkable.
I just put some losi 70 weight in the rear, seems way better compared to the stock front oil. Think I may just put 70 in the front too, see if it’ll eliminate the hard chassis slap. That was a good top to bottom look and review. Thanks for slamming it from 40-50 feet. It Survived😳
Great review Greg, got my Maxx a week ago having a blast with it, the only thing I would say is I feel the truck would have handled much better if the suspension had more preload, it was set up wy to soft for those jumps. If the truck bottoms out when you give it a two foot drop it will never handle big jumps
That's fantastic! I have been sick of those stupid clips for years! I've always thought "man, can't we come up with something better than this?" I mean supposedly we've been to the moon and back but no one can design another way to mount and secure your RC car body... Right. lol Thanks for the 'always awesome' uploads.
Water Islife nah, they’re flat out copying other companies and making money off other people’s designs. And as far as a mini maxx, I mean an exact scaled down version like this maxx but 1/16 or so
I much prefer bent body clips then walking 40 yd every time the body pops off that includes the X Max as well. But traxxas did a great job with the truck and chassis. This should be a front runner for years. I went the proline pro mt route but I do like the maxx as far as the modern chassis design and durability. But, it's a traxxas, and I have already played that game. I prefer if I can to sample more from the industry. But if you are a one rig guy, the maxx is a great choice and it is a useful size. The x maxx is cool but too big and cumbersome to use easily and conveniently. In terms of esc and motors go aftermarket when you can, tekin, castle, even a lot of hobbywing stuff if nice and affordable.
I've only had it come off once in the few days I've had it and it wasn't at the skatepark been their twice but off of a speed bump at 50-55mph on street ending up doing several side flips as happened to me just as quickly with clipped bodies so prefer the convenience quicker to take off/on the body and I hate replacing clips failing off on me frequently at higher speeds
Great review. I just let the smoke out of my E Maxx brushless and am trying to decide what to do. May be time to put the vintage E Maxx on the shelf and get a new basher.
Great review man. It's really a nice truck. Just too bad the wheelie wheels are plastic. I would like some rubber on there. But okay, I guess it does the job. On rough terrain it probably doesn't really matter, maybe plastic lasts longer. :D
Just picked the red and blue one up for 509.99 at my LHS. Also grabbed the Wide Kit while I was there. Been into Arrma for awhile now and still love my Outcast 4s but wanted something new. And didnt want to have to buy new batteries so the Maxx fit the bill. I agree its a bit expensive but very well made. If you buy an Outcast 4s and then add aluminum shocks your already close to the Maxx price so its not that far off.
My only Traxxas Truck that I can bash with confidence and not come home with a broken truck. This thing is a tank. I drive it more that my E-Revo 2.0. I run the same 4S 5000mah and get a good run.
Great review vid. Yeah I wonder what tuning adjustments could be done to the suspension to make it handle the jumps better. The back wheels seem to bounce a bit more. Definitely took some abuse. Awesome bash 👍👊👊. The back flips and big air was sick 😱😱. Bash on 😎😎

Hey yo great review - I'm tossing between the e-revo 2.0 and the maxx ... have still got my nitro revo that I love, and feel I would like the e-revo more, but still undecided Can you throw in a review of the e revo 2.0, and maybe a separate comparison between the revo maxx and 4wd rusty
I'm an r/c novice, but pretty well versed in automotive aftermarket modiifcations, so with that said.....I have a question...when considering suspension on the first test site (dirt/gravel), wouldn't it be helpful to lower tire pressure? Is there an element I'm missing in this scenario? Is the tire pressure non adjustable? If so, I don't understand why.
Those drive shafts are great, used em on emaxx with 6s for years and never broke one.Yokes are as usual wear out but have the same shafts to this day.5yrs old
I’m speaking of HD Splined plastic in general.Everyone want metal, but I think it’s better to have a weak point between wheel and tranny.Only issue ever had was tires blowing never axles if set up properly.
Great video! Thanks for all your 'hard' work! 20Gb of video! Wow How many battery packs was that? What kind of run time do you get out of a battery? Did you ever run it with the TSM all the way off? Are those tires 'belted'? I never saw them turn into 'fribees'. Thanks again for the great work!
I was looking between the Maxx and Rustler VXL. I want something I can run on the streets, dirt and grass. I was worried about the traction roll of the Maxx. Is it really that bad? Or would you recommend one over the other?

@@kaelebtorrey4662 that's what I was wondering. It looks like you have to replace the whole chassis
@@talonvaughn6175 to replace the bulkheads or?
I'm hard to please when it comes to MT selections. I got the Losi 3XLE and the XMaxx.. Cause both can make my day at any day.
But this Maxx beast absolutely outclass its 1/10 scale by a land slide.. Unmatched Speed & Torque out of the box.
Thank you for the infos bro. Imma buy this beast asap.
Great review Greg. One of the most thorough yet I've seen.
Ready Set RC Thanks! Just had to tear into it to show off some features.
I've seen many and this is the best review of this truck on UA-cam. It's extremely comprehensive, unbiased, and I seriously doubt any other channels will be able to top it. Excellent job. Maybe customizing the Maxx will make good content for future vids.
I just got myself a Maxx! Awesome review love the detail
I like how Traxxas puts the Logo on the chassis and through out the rc. Shows the engineering in there products.
That orange body... It looks amazing
Just got mine at B & B Hobbies, Spokane, WA. The Maxx is very powerful, and yes, I have been drooling on the xmaxx, so this is perfect to start on.
So for the price it’s not horrible I guess if anything id just like it a bit bigger I think.
as always - amazing job on the review, thank you for taking the time to do this.
Do you like the rustler 4x4 vxl or this better

Trailer Trash Racing It was a blast to drive. Great video.
I’m loving my Maxx so far. Great vid as usual!
Yes the batteries have kept me from buying a Maxx, I just feel like I'm being scammed although I really love to have one
All Traxxas and arrma rc cars are over priced about 200$
@@jessefava16 don't put Arma this s*** are cheaper than Traxxas
Looks like every RC enthusiast is going to be thinking about this for the holidays
So far I've had to replace:
* Entire clutch
* 2-speed gearing in transmission
* Brake pad fell apart one day. Literally just shat the lining out the bottom of the truck.
* Engine
* I had to solder over the polyfuse in the 2075x servo steering the thing. Waiting on the gearing to fail...
* Body is intact because I don't actually run that body at all. I built a body out of foamboard instead.
* One yoke, rear right.
* Wheels and tires.
So you complain about not liking electric then say about how crap nitros are. The previous comment isn’t even relevant to this reply
If this video didn’t interest you as you hate Traxxas and hate electric them why are you here
@@AW-Luke Nitros are great when the engines aren't engineered by the accounting department.
@@AW-Luke ask UA-cam's algorithms.
Nice job of straddling the line! Glad you acknowledged some of the "concerns" of the truck. 👍

Cheers

Traxxas it's OK 👌nice video keep it up.
Also i think what Traxxas needs to do for there oil filled differentials. Is to vent them when ever you have enclosed moving parts. It needs to be vented so pressure doesn’t build up. And causes leaks.
TRAXXAS IS THE BEAST ! Nice video 👌👍🏻
@@nemocheerio 🤦♂️
I bought a V2 about 3 weeks ago and I love it.
Good reviews for everything!
I’d like to see a mini maxx, a chassis like this somewhere in the size of the 1/16-1/14 scale area, like a 2.2 wheel size scale on 3s
mike s That would be awesome
check Out Remo Hobby 1:16 SMAX truck. they are awesome and only $65
Water Islife nah, they’re flat out copying other companies and making money off other people’s designs.
Love this channel!
Great review. I just let the smoke out of my E Maxx brushless and am trying to decide what to do. May be time to put the vintage E Maxx on the shelf and get a new basher.
If you can afford it that is not a bad option. Looks like they won’t be making the E Maxx anymore as it is
Great review man. It's really a nice truck. Just too bad the wheelie wheels are plastic. I would like some rubber on there. But okay, I guess it does the job. On rough terrain it probably doesn't really matter, maybe plastic lasts longer. :D
It is really a cool truck but the price is a bit high. And it is not very high under the diffs.

Is there an element I'm missing in this scenario? Is the tire pressure non adjustable? If so, I don't understand why.
There is no air pressure in the tires. The tires have foam in them and then the edge of the tire is glued to the rim
