  • Due to the lack of availability of oil filters for my experimental aircraft engine, I purchased a reusable oil filter. This is a post purchase only review as it has not been tried on the engine yet. Will install at the next oil change.

I've got 3 Honda motorcycles. Each have a PC Racing Flo stainless filter PCS1 (virtually identical to the shown filter). They seem to work just fine. I've had them now for 8 years. The O ring can be repalced with a regular circular c/s oring - just be careful when installing so it doesn't get pinched. Also the PC filter has the nut on the tip with a lock wire hole. That being said, the nuts on any filter are not allowed to be the only securing point for TT/MGP/S100/Jurby races. Filters must be secured with lockwire clamped by a hose (jubilee) clamp.
Thanks Paul. These filters really gorgeous and exceptional quality.

I have one on a Road King. Works fine.

In this case he is looking at an automotive filter , the aviation ones have finer mesh in microns, and have a nut machined on the end and do not use a filter wrench to remove, and also have holes drilled into them for lockwiring. That may explain the price difference...

Call K and P direct. Been using them for years. No problems.

@@Ptro1 Several videos on you tube about cleaning reusable filters. Just look through them and choose the method that works for you.

Would you be willing to share the link to the site where you bought this? The prices that I've been seeing for this are much closer to $350. $200 seems like a great deal.

The site is usaoilfilters.com. At the top left go to products and there are many different ones. The filter for the lycoming O-320 is the S-15. The price on their web site is $189.00 for this filter. Keep in mind that this filter isn't for a certified aircraft... (mine is experimental so I'm legal)... Actually, If ask, I don't think I'd even let them know it's going on an aircraft at all. If you did they may direct you to the certified version anyway which is another site and more money. I think the only difference between the otherwise identical filters is the safety wire holes in the certified ones. I'm planning on putting a hose clamp around the filter and wrapping the safety wire around that.

Could you do a video of the cleaning of the filter, and what extra material is needed to do that ?. And how long the process takes ?. And what the micron rating of that setup has?. Knowing the cost of that setup would be handy to know, vs your standard throwaway filter. Tia.,,

Hey Philp, As far as the filters micron size, it is 35 microns consistently through the entire filter. The standard paper type filters is 40-60 microns. Here is a link to a video for the cleaning of the K&P reusable oil filter. Hope this information helps.

Beautiful filter but dont clean oil. To clean oil you need a Frantz a Australian Jackmaster or a few others. You cant clean oil at 10 quarts a minute.unless the filter is too big to go under the hood. The old AeroFrantz was FAA and PMA approved and used 2 ply facial quality toilet paper. The micron rating was near 1 micron. My Jackmaster Classic is 1 micron if you use their elements. The Wix full flow filter on my Pontiac Torrent has 62.000 miles and over 4 years on it. The bypass filter keeps it clean. All I have now that clean oil.is Motor Guards Gulf Coasts the Australian Jackmaster Classic and a Ford flat head V8 canister filter that I converted to use Scott 1000 toilet paper and installed on a Ford diesel tractor. 60 years of analytically clean oil. Sorry I didnt realize you were talking about aircraft engines. Saw the AeroFrantz filters on crop dusters in the early 80s.
