Must be feeling the cold as you have trousers on. 😂 Also, it’s great to see you appreciating all the hard work from the volunteers. A recent letter in the Waterways magazine, was giving them a really hard time. Well done Vince.
I'm one of the Marsworth VLK's featured in your excellent video. Re the one gate issue... if we're single handed on a lock, we usually ask if the boater is happy with a one gate entry. If they look like a confident or competent boater, then a one gate entry is fine. And you seem to know what you're doing. :-)
Thanks for your educated input Keith! And for the help through the locks! What you said makes good sense to me! PS hope you got your sons insurance sorted haha!
I must say, I totally disagree with that Heron! I think your boat handling skills are excellent. I've been watching from your first video and I have to say how impressed I am with the way you handle your boat since you started. Thanks again.
Such an interesting vlog and I really enjoyed it. I totally agree with you about the excitement of learning about the stories from the places you moor at and taking your time to live them for a while.👍 As for the cows, well when you have DrDoLittle powers you will find all creatures great and small trying to communicate with you!🤣🐄🐮
Really glad that you enjoyed it! I try not to make it like a race out here. God willing, I stay healthy, I will have nothing but time to discover these places along the way! As for Dr Doolittle, I can't repeat what them Cows said at the end (Too Rude) Haha!
Hi Vince. That was a great vlog, lots of variety. I would have loved to have seen that. Sorry! Lovely tour of the town and loved the kiddies getting involved too. Made my evening.
The reason you shouldn't open one gate is because people hit the closed gate and over time the gate wears away where it is continuesly hit and that is why the gates leak, look at the gates closed and see where its leaking next time, that gap is where the wood is worn away. So next time you see a gate leaking g badly, you know why. Just a little advice of my years of boating.
@@rogermcd9918 I do know that Roger! If I couldn't handle the boat and was bashing the closed gate all the time I would open both, or tell the CRT lock volunteers that they are doing it wrong! Like you Vince I’m a single hander, I prefer going down locks, I only open one gate it saves a lot of time. Sometimes, (it’s not always possible) when going up a lock if there are steps leading up to the lock I’ll step off as my boat enters the lock, the momentum takes the boat into the lock and I walk up the steps with the centreline. Works for me anyway. Good work.
Sorry Vince, but that thought of you sprinting down the towpath made me laugh 😅. Seriously hope you and the cow's were OK. Tring looked like a beautiful place. Thanks again for another lovely journey, Until next time. Kath

Great video. I really enjoyed the tour of Tring! Thank you very much + safe travels. Was that the famous "running with the bulls I've heard about? I thought that was in Spain!
The Comments are right Vince, both gates should be open to avoid damaging the gates when moving boats contact them. It’s not so bad when it’s a gate that will move away in the direction of the boat. The official CRT advise is to open both. If the CRT volunteers are not doing that then that’s on them mate. As a boater though it’s up to you really, if you feel confident going through a single open gate then you should but a new boater, like a holiday hire then two gates is far better for the sake of the gates.
That's exactly my thinking! If a day comes when I start hitting the closed gate, or there is a byewash pushing me about as I approach the lock, then I will definitely open them both! Because I wouldn't want to damage the gates!
Anyone who complains about only using one gate obviously hasn't been on the canals. One boat is 7 foot wide and so is half of a lock so why waste labour opening a senond gate.
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle well the route up to it is nice 😉. Still, you’re in a good area. Where you are now was my first intro to canals and have been returning that way for most of my life. Pitstone swing bridge may be a tad challenging if you’re on your own though.

If I had time to get my phone out, I would have filmed it Tel. But they was gaining on me so I had to give it all I've got to get to the lock gate! I won't lie, I was shitting myself and didn't think I would make it haha!
Well the calves would have a new adventure.
They all seemed like they was panicking a bit Steve, trying to get back to their herd!
Great vlog Vince keep up the good work you do by the way The Hammers are doing well aren't they
Thank you Lenny I appreciate that! We are living the dream with West Ham at the moment, long may it continue!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle we are mate I'm a very happy Hammer
Another good vlog Vince & how lovely the families helping out with the locks & those lock volunteers must have saved you lots of time 😀 Found the history of Tring interesting too 😊
Would loved to have seen the cows chasing you 🤣🤣🤣 I am a bit sadistic like that 😂😂 hee hee! Glad you managed to get out of their way though & tell the tale 👏 Never a dull moment ay Vince 😀 lots of love ❤ xxx
Glad you liked it Pauline! Them little kids helping were charming! I was S######g myself when the cows were catching me haha! See you soon love Vince xxx
Love Tring.
So do I Simon!
Great video. I really enjoyed the tour of Tring! Thank you very much + safe travels.
Was that the famous "running with the bulls I've heard about? I thought that was in Spain!
Thank you! Don't think I'd last too long in Spain the speed that I can run nowadays haha!
Bit wet end of October? Any flooding that area?
Not that I know of! But then again, I am pretty high on the canal system here!
"Moo"ve over Vince!
Haha! Nice one Mike!
Hey mate. Please explain how you see over the front of the boat whilst steering.
Hello Allen! You don't see the front, but you have to learn to judge it!
you mored in marsworth.
Yes I did Julie!
Anyone who complains about only using one gate obviously hasn't been on the canals. One boat is 7 foot wide and so is half of a lock so why waste labour opening a senond gate.
As long as I can handle the boat without bashing the lock gates about, I agree with you Brian!
Moo moos didn’t enjoy that.
Yep!
Ah real shame about the Aylesbury Arm.
I was looking forward to going to Aylesbury!
@@NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle well the route up to it is nice 😉. Still, you’re in a good area. Where you are now was my first intro to canals and have been returning that way for most of my life. Pitstone swing bridge may be a tad challenging if you’re on your own though.
