RIP Michael Dokes. Your were a hell of a fighter, as this reel shows.
So fast, such snap in his punches and threw everything effortlessly.. Very talented guy.
starts at the waist
But Mohammed ali dodged all of it
im faster, want proof? thanks for saying im god like talent
@@firstlast1278nope, starts at your feet actually.
Back in The '80's, Michael Dokes (RIP) could have been one of the biggest superstars in Boxing next to Sugar Ray Leonard. He had the sheer talent, and the charisma. But he couldn't leave the drugs alone.
Yes ,but he over done it,I hear Sugar man,he use drug to, when he fight ,Andy Price, back in the 80, some time go,so to this,I bet to this day they or still doing, what you think, when money talk bullshit walk, right,🤔
Michael dokes was one of the best heavyweight boxers around in the 80's . fast and could punch. gave evander holifield all he could handle in one of the best heavyweight fights ive ever seen . he was dynamite. peace n smoke.
Heavyweights with genuine hand speed are the scariest sort of boxer.
Noah scarier than foreman?
Kory Gavin
Foreman didn't have speed but he is the most powerful heavyweight
Foreman had no speed but power
@@FN-bq2si shavers
@Ruff Godz 🎯 Both Ali and Ron Lyle faced both men and said Shavers hit harder, and Lyle could crack, too. His fights against both were epic wars.
Those are the fastest pair of hands I have eve seen on a HW. The velocity of his combinations is almost unreal.
Get Smart ehhh between him, Ali, and Patterson
@@onlyrog5 and tyson and joe louis
@@davidfitzgerald4683 dokes, ali and patterson were faster than tyson and louis.
@@colorado2455 ali and pattersion not dokes his up there though
@@davidfitzgerald4683 yeah u might be right.
Wow that man had speed AND power.Tremendously talented fighter. So sad that Michael's life ended so early and badly. ( RIP).
Incredible speed, perhaps one of the fastest heavyweight ever. And Ali dodged 21 of those lightning fast punches in 9 seconds 😳
Yet Ali couldn't dodge Ken Norton and Joe Frazier's punches when they were beating him upside the head.🙂
We need more people like you. So many great warriors forgotten.
Dam! I just looked up Michael Dokes and saw he died in 2012 at the age of 54. I met him in Las Vegas in 1992, what a nice and humble man.
2:19 dude threw a punch while falling down lol
Haha and he landed it
Speed for a man of his build is crazy
Dokes was a very good boxer. He was fast as hell for a heavyweight, had good head movement and nice skills. His fight with Holyfield is a classic. One of the good representives of the 80s boxers.
Rest In Power Michael Dokes and may your soul be granted heavenly paradise.🥊💯✊🏿🖤✊🏿⚔️
0:35 DAMN!!!
The mouthpiece 😭
This man speed and power is unreal
My absolute favorite heavyweight boxer, then George Foreman.
Dokes was a brutal machine, feared by all who entered the ring with him.
the more I see Dokes, the more I appreciate him.
Pure Beast
Dynamite Dokes baybaaaay!!! Dude had Holyfield thinking twice about facing Iron Mike. Awesome vid as usual Hanzagod!
I did time with Michael Dokes in Southern desert penitentiary and all I can say is thank god he never wanted to fight me. RIP champ
One of the fastest if not the fastest heavyweight of all time
can you do a "speed kills" series? would be nice to have a entire section like de defense one
What might of been if he could of fought off those demons.
If he gained some punching power, would have been phenominal.
I give you credit that he floored Weaver, but Weaver had been knocked out before in a couple of fights. Larry Holmes stopped him in 11 rounds. In some ways, Michael didn't have that defining win that Gerry Cooney and Greg Page had when they were contenders.
What demons are those? Thank u
@@fleadoggreen9062 drugs
big speed for a heavy
This man was a monster fighter
Only fighter to match Holyfields hand speed counter puncher ablity and reflexes
Agreed 👍
Always put on a good show. Dokes/Holyfield was the heavyweight version of Castillo/Corrales
+Candyslim501 One of my all time favorite fights!
haNZAgod u know a good fight when you see it. This was no doubt an underrated classic fight
Don't watch the Bowe fight
Dokes was a fun fighter to watch. He fought a lot of very good heavyweights and always gave them all they could handle.
Class fighter
This guy was heavyweight champion of the world.
Michael Dokes was indeed a dynamite...1958-2012..rest in peace
Awesome vid
The real reason his comeback wasn't so successful was cause he no longer had his mighty afro to intimidate his opponents into submission.
Looooool hilarious
Exactly I say the same thing.
I'm from his birth place Akron, Ohio; he's one of our historical sports heroes. You should change the title to Michael Dokes - Incredible Power Punches because he was knocking the crap out of them. Great job. Thanks for the video.
Great showcase of a unique HW champion!
What a great fighter!
What a dangerous guy his Body Shots look like real cripplers, gonna enjoy watching him ✌️
Brillant
Ali vs micheal dokes 😂 Ali make him micheal jokes😂. RESPECT
Yes Cobb doing a good job taking those right hands.
handspeed was wow for a big man at that, Pinklton Thomas, Razor Riddick and this gentleman are a few of tysons talented opponents he fought and beat and the naysayers still insist Tyson only fought Bums. Also shout out to the dude that runs this page, the web is saturated with HLs of known boxers nice to see some of this men skills highlighted
I remember this guy being so much better than everyone else at the time and then just disappearing
also the grunt when he hit
0:59 might be the smoothest KO in the history of the sport
micheal dokes was one of the Top 10 fastest heavyweights of all time
I'm a boxing fanatic and I've never heard of this brotha. But dam he's nice. Quick as hell for a heavyweight.
that left hook to the body...
Damn that left hook was lightning!
holyfield admitted dokes was fastest fighter he fought and mind you dokes was past his prime legs were gone but gave hell
Pretty damn impressive he was.
WOW
Those liver shots!
Awesome vid. Can you do czar amonsot? I think he's very underrated
And we have the fastest HW in history - dang this guy was fast!
Agreed the only fighter to match Holyfields hand speed counter puncher ablity and reflexes
He was good in the 80s
Real tough fighter salute to dokes he was a problem
Holy shittt
Akron's Own Mike Dokes
The heavyweight sugar ray
Greg Paige & Michael Dokes were two of the most naturally talented heavyweights of any era.
That's arguably true. I think Page had a bit more natural ability than Dokes, but Dokes was in better shape and quicker. The who was faster thing is debatable.
I don't know.
Tim Witherspoon and Pinklon Thomas had some talent too.
Timmy was really underrated. But, these guys went through the WBA merry-go-round.
Kinda funny that Mike Weaver was the more stable champion among them.
Kinda sad that the 80's heavies did not turn out as great as the 70's.
They were as equally talented.
But, they were so mismanaged and undisciplined .
Don King. But yeah, the 80's were chock full of talent from top to bottom.
Dont forget thomas and tim witherspoon and tucker and douglas
I became a dokes fan when I heard Evander mention him as a type of fighter that’s hard to deal with.
Agreed the only fighter to match Holyfields hand speed counter puncher ablity and reflexes
Fast!!!!
Dokes had incredible potential, and his hand speed was off the chart! His big problem as a fighter was that he was too stationary.
His main problem was cocaine, and his lifestyle. His punching power was starting to kick in when he "beat" Weaver. He was lucky, despite his skills, that Don King was in his corner.
Espectacular la música
Didn’t realise Dokes was so good!
a past prime dokes gave holyfield a better fight than tyson even holyfield said it dokes had just as hands as him great counter puncher ablity
@@theinformationbomber7102
No prove Holyfied took juice and juice can't give you a better chin or will power to win
Something tyson doesn't have not the fighter who gets off the canvas to score a k.o with indomitable will power
Minus the footwork he was like a heavyweight Ray Leonard
Damn, he is quick. Never watched Dokes much, but after seeing this clip I'm convinced that he would definitely give Larry Holmes problems (a pity the fight never happened)
Boxing breed nothing but monsters u have to honor the sport regardless the level of the fighter
Second 0:30. Which fight is that?
Cool boxer
He seemed to have a pretty good defense when he was younger.
where was that when he tried to connect with Mohammed Ali
He was super fast during his 77-85 run .....when me back in late 80s had t a considerable amount of speed......
@ 1:54 the sharpest Ko combo I have ever seen 💯💥😵
check out the phantom punch
Very FAST HANDS
The way dude fell at 1:03 took me out.🤣😂
You make one for Gerri Coetzee too since he ko'ed Dokes nasty.
After watching a few of his earlier fights, I felt that he had the potential to win the heavyweight championship and hold it for years. Sadly, that is not the way things worked out for him.
Yea hand speed was off the hook but DON KING RUINED everybody he ever promoted
BIG- L he did himself no favors by doing drugs
Do not think that Don King is the only cause of ruining boxers careers. That is also an effect. He made his boxers richer than most of the other promoters during his prime. Don King made sure his boxers received a lot of money. However, Don King always asked for a higher percentage than most other promoters during his time. Don King was not the only person to blame. Don King made the fights that people wanted to see. Is unfair to only blame Don King for all of the downfalls of the boxers he promoted.
No BIG L Don gave them an opportunity to make something out of their lives, Larry Holmes showed em all how to play Don......win and keep winning and when it’s time to renew, as the champ, you get a better deal. The crack pipe is what let Dons boys down. Larry Holmes owns half of Easton thanks to Don King. They wouldn’t dedicate.
PainandMotivation what a pile of shit, King was a modern-day slave master, every boxer he ever promoted ended up broke. That’s like saying Vince McMahon and Dana White make all the wrestlers and fighters lots of money. He was also a murderer in addition to being a crook. Just an all-around repulsive guy.
Dokes vs holyfield great fight
Exactly a past prime Dokes gave Holyfield a better fight than tyson proves tyson is way overated by the media at the time
@1:53 he went to work 🔥
Saldy, a Journeyman
Huh?
@@hanzagod he never took boxing seriously
@@g-man1035 He took it seriously enough to become a champion. He wasn't a journeyman haha
Hanza who do you think is faster Floyd Patterson or Michael dokes
Patterson!
Wats the name of this beat
Some of them were so vicious, that they could actually qualify as a Hate Crime. It is written.
Surgical left hand into the liver🤪
He was one of those guys back in the day where people literally kept his name out they mouth.
I knew Mike since he was a teenagers boxing for Bill Sawyer out of Firestone Park YMCA in Akron Ohio. I was training out of the same gym at the time. Sad how things turned out for Mike. Mike past away in 2012 I think it was at a young age.
Died of cancer afaik.
I saw Holmes sit next to him and you can tell he wanted no part of Dokes then.
Heavyweight Sugar Ray Leonard lol!! Nice video
That was Greg Page, not Michael Dokes.
Belburg
No
Very good fighter. Unfortunately I can’t get the Razor Ruddock KO out my mind when I think of him. But Dokes was a very good fighter.
Agreed the only fighter to much Holyfields hand speed and counter puncher ablity
It's one thing to have speed with some shoe shine bullsh!t, but he had power behind those licks!
Michael didn't have a lot of power. When he started to develop it, the drugs kicked in. Watch his fight with Cobb the first time. The way Cobb was aggressing him, at times, was scary.
The fact Ali was joking with this guy scares me
Song ?
Dokes looks like project pat with those cornrows lol
Him and Witherspoon are the 2 tragedies of the 80's Heavyweights. both excellent when focused but their careers were chaos. In fact same goes for Greg Page.
Michael Dokes Vs Greg Page would've been an interesting fight
Name of the beat ?
this guy had a rock on his gloves wrap with duck tape.
Dokes...
Would've love to see him vs Tyson in late 80 s
Dokes hand speed counter puncher ablity and combinations are Superior then tyson
Dokes is the only fighter to match Holyfields speed
0:59 and 2:18... was crazy!
