- In Smite Patch 5.4, Telkhines Ring receives a buff, decreasing its price and increasing its scaling. Polynomicon fulfills a similar purpose in some way. bit.ly/2hjNaPT While both items have different stats, they compete against each other in the same slots due to their passives. Previously, Polynomicon seemed to be the better choice for most, but after the recent Telkhines changes, it's time to compare both and see who comes out on top in Polynomicon vs Telkhines.

Well look at the auto attack mages: Chronos, Sol, Freya. Chronos and Sol both are really hybrid mages more than pure basic attacking mages, both with a high ability burst combo, with Freya being the only one with a true basic attack focus. With Chronos and Sol I think the polynomicon option is rather obvious, especially considering back when chronos was played a lot he was often built with poly, but if even Freya gets more benefit from an item like poly than from Telkhines, then perhaps something needs to change if the basic attack mages all would prefer an item not designed for them than an item designed for them.
TL:DR
If Poly is better for auto attack mages than the auto attack item when built on them, there is a problem. When it comes down to it, Freya for example gains more from Poly in the practical sense because she kills in about 4 basic attacks, however with poly vs telkhines, she would kill faster with poly.

But it's sort of like building Qin's Sai on Hun Batz. It's not an item that's designed to synergise that way.
Mana, Lifesteal and a passive that deals a large scaling figure at relatively long intervals all benefit characters who have high cooldown ability rotations to give them a bonus power spike. If you're building into attack speed then having dealing 75% of your, say, 300~ magic power every 4 seconds isn't going to contribute as much as it would if you had, say, 600+ MP. So to get the best out of the item, you'd want to burst/power build anyway
@OKeerakh0 That is exactly what Duke is getting at though, Poly SHOULD be only for burst mages and such, but as it stands, it is a better item choice for most auto attack mages than Telkhines.

Make telekines work on towers like poly does

As a person who routinely plays Chronos, I see no reason what so ever to build Telekines over Polynomicon. Or any other item for that matter. Demonic is better than Telekines imo. Its not a bad item for Freya however
On freya with demonic, hastened, telkhines, bankrofts, typhons, and magus, she has 1128 dps at 60% health with irradiate and pulse. That build at that health has 525 power, so unless you're building freya-one-shot, I think the attack speed from telkhines outshines poly. Especially bc the faster the basics the faster the protection reduction

Personally I prefer Telekhines Ring on Chronos since I'm not that great at hitting autoattacks. Plus, the lifesteal you gain from Polynomicon is competely lost if you miss the attack. Usually I build Chronos with Soul Gem, Chronos Pendant, Book of Thoth, Shaman's Ring, Telekhines Ring and pen shoes. Anybody want to rain in on that?

If we’re talking Chronos here... he can suffer losing some power in his items Bc his passive makes up for it, though that is only in late game.
i dont even build it on an AA mages, like i get pen hunters blessing pen boots ,hastened ring ,demonic grip,bancroft's talon, sell hunter's blessing for typhon's fang(if fed) or divine ruin or spear of desolation or obsidian shard depending on the match-up then finish up with a typhon's fang if i didn't build it or i got triple pen if like everyone is building defense against my 20 2 freya lel. I dont even get poly on AA mages heck i get it mostly on scylla and nox as an extra hit to finish up people. like the problem with telkines ring if i wanted to put it in my build i do more damage if i built pen and if i am snowballing i build typhon's for the sustain because its time to end the game and stop dying, sure you can argue that i can put poly in the build instead of typhon's but with my low power build, the extra power from typhon's fang and extra sustain from its passive is more beneficial than an extra 120 damage that is going to be evened out in 2 autos.
So video in short unless you are going pure Attack Speed and can hit your autos at lest 80% of the time the cost and stats on Poly will be better then Tel.
I'm pretty sure that one of the rings, before it was changed used to be basically zhongs passive, and it would work on zhongs basics and his scrolls basic to make a massive damage spike
just buy both and sell hastened ring, I find it to be useless, though to be fair I play freya and AS ao kuang and couldn't care less about chronos and sol.
If you can't hit autos, why are you an ADC mage? Also with this burst meta, poly holds the spot.

I think Freya can/should sell boots for Telkhines Ring in the super lategame, after upgrading relics and consistently having a purple potion. Freya likes attack speed a lot but it's not worth building this ring before her other items.
eg; Hunter's Blessing, Bancroft's Talon, Shoes of the Magi, Hastened Ring, Spear of the Magus, Demonic Grip, sell Hunter's Blessing for Typhon's Fang, sell Shoes for Telkhines Ring.

It’s the difference between lifesteal and landing the basic or movement speed and attack speed with more consistency. I’m a fan of telekhines if you take the gold value away.

So, I was really surprised at how much more aa damage the new Tele gave comparing to the old Tahuti hidden passive buuuutttt, it's actually not nearly that useful.
By the time you get it your build is already full and, for the price, the extra damage just isn't worth it. Poly, or even a defensive item feel more impactful.

Meaning, more base damage, and cheaper. The % increase on the passive is really nice because it makes the item viable in the end game but it just isn't enough, when the base stats are that of a 23-2400 gold item.

I'd be interested to see the damage numbers for swapping pen boots out for typhons fang in the same build, since the triple rings give plenty of movement

I feel like these two items are for a completely different goal from each other... sure they both augment basic attacks, but they are for two different things. Telkhines is for the more auto attack and sustained damage gods/builds and Polynomicon is for getting the highest damage possible in one burst. Even still saying this I feel like telkhines is not worth getting on the auto attack mages when most of them benefit from other items much more than they do telkhines. The only god that benefits from telkhines is Zhong Qui because his flying book procs it meaning if he hits both of the basic attacks he can proc it twice for 20 + 16% of your magical power instead of 10 + 8% of your magical power.
It would probably be better to have more than 1 paragraph to explain your thought but i see what you mean.

Oh... I feel foolish i don't use both i thought i did they change looks and stuff so much i just use what i put in my custom area with 6other options it's one of those other options. I use poly more often

The real question is... How does Telkhines passive interact with The Morrigan's 3rd basic? Because that could be quite useful if it procs in whole for every tick.
It does not
When the morrigan uses a basic it resets her chain to the 1st hit so that's impossible

Nope telk does not lower protections so it doesn't shred and right now it will only put out more dps if you miss a poly auto's yet somehow hit every auto with telk on... Did you not understand what duke said? By the time your telk out damages poly, freya already murdered the squishy or other magical adcs are ready to throw another poly auto. Maybe replacing boots as 7th item... BTW so the only time telk autos won't be 1v1 or single target is freya 2 or Sylvanias... or is there some other way in your imagination telk is not single target focus like poly?
Shred in smite is a term for lowering protections, not taking away health. Your using it in place of damage... quins passive is still just damage. Exe/Demonic shreds... Nem ult, rat 2, cerb 2. When you take protections off a target so they take more damage, that is shred.
I build in this order demonic grip, poly, hastened, typhons, spear of the magus, and then telkhines.
Why are you even comparing this items? And you are doing it the wrong way.
With how much you rely on numbers and all the effort you put in this i find it very strange that you think building poly on AA builds is even close to how effective it is to build it on full dmg builds.
Im not saying this because I hate you or anything but you are promoting the building of poly on a build that doesn't make sense I mean any thinking brain can come up to the conclusion that having more atack speed won't affect the 4 second cooldown polys passive has, and also that all the stats the item has don't fit in AA build.
And AA builds for mages fail because all the AA mages are considered that way because they have an atack speed steroid but why does that even make them AA mages? The only real AA mage is Freya, and unless they desing items more powerful than fatalis and demonic she will never build them because she doesn't any more atack speed based items.
