Great 90's color and car right here. I'd love to own another 4th gen 94-97 like this. First car I bought at 18 in 98 was a mint red 94 3.4 Camaro 40k mi hard top, just like I wanted but ran into accidentally seeing it from the street and had bought it as soon is it rolled out of detail to the lot for half off ask because the salesman and my dad were both natives of Van Nuys in Nebraska. Loved that hing like a Testarossa. So fun to drive. Gave it a Borla dual with double tips, AVS tail light covers.
I have a bright red '96 RS, and have been down those very same roads you've cruised here. You're very connected to the road in these, and even when it feels like it's about to disconnect around the corners, it still has a way to go. As far as the squeaks go, I solved most of mine with a little bit of butyl rubber tape. I'm 6' and to be comfortable, I have to adjust the seat to a bit more of a reclining position than I had in any other car I've driven other than vette's. I've been pulled over by the WRPS on at least a half dozen occasions, for no other reason than the car's flashiness. She's been "sitting" for 12 years now, for similar reasons to your father's, but I still keep her fresh. By far the most fun car I've owned
Had a '96 Z28, and i loved that car. Mine had pretty much everything on it except t-tops. The previous owner had put the SLP exhaust on it, and it did sound amazing. Every parking lot i pulled into, people would look to see what it was. The car felt way stronger than the 285 horsepower it was rated. The transmission in mine was pretty smooth for a 4L60E, but it eventually gave up the ghost at 125k and i sold it a year later bc i couldn't afford to fix it due to other financial obligations. Im looking to find one now as a fun weekend car, but its hard to find one in my area that isnt ratty.
Great video. I love it for the 90's nostalgia and That I'm Canadian. I hope you and yours had a great Thanksgiving. I hope your dad enjoys his retirement. Dad and most of his side of the family worked at gm for decades in Oshawa and even with that, we were open-minded and liked all cars. What you showed of Kitchener was beautiful and Niagara falls and Hamilton are nice too. I love that colour and that generation with the recessed headlights and different nose. I also love that it's the final year before the ls with the same architecture from 1955. I never knew the scoop was functional but I loved this generation as a boy.
@@RomVlad These will eventually be very sought after. I sold them new and the majority of the dealer’s inventory of Corvettes were autos equipped with the LT1 for the 96 model year. Out of the 20 or so 96’s we had there was one Grand Sport on the showroom along with the dealerships owner’s ex-demo which was a competition yellow convertible LT4 car on custom HRE wheels and maybe 2 more various colors on the. They are not there yet but at some point this will be the hot car in the future. The weirdest color combo with most unique option combo will definitely be rare. I’d love to get my hands on a C4 Callaway twin turbo Corvette. They are kind of starting to get more expensive but for the longest time they had to be the deal of the century. Less money than a C4 ZR1 but far less common. I just recently realized that there were some 1997 LT4 Firehawk’s built too. I had no idea.
@@GrandCamino6 I almost bought a Firehawk back in 2009. Mint, low mileage but they were asking 10. I thought it was steep. I ended up with a ‘95 Mustang Cobra.
I have an 01 4th Gen camaro catfish convertible with the 3.8 and automatic. I love the thing and it makes a great daily driver. Good mpg and highway drivability and ride quality. Once got caught in a snow storm and had an inch of snow on the roads. I drove home from work that day carefully and I can't believe it did so well. Also I think my tire and rim package and ASR helped with that. Next day we had many inches of snow and I attempted to move the car out of the way to plow my driveway. I figured there's no way this car is gonna drive through this. I'd be damned it did it with no wheel spin and didn't think twice. I'm like " That's not how this is supposed to work. That's not how any of this is supposed to work". lol But it did. My Camaro is not in perfect condition but it's my daily which is better over using my truck as a daily. Bought mine on the cheap back in 2018 and it was a impulse purchase but I'm glad I didn't pass it up. Fixed a bunch of things on it too so it's better than when I got it.
Beautiful! That car is Bright Teal Metallic, not Mystic Teal Metallic though. Definitely my favorite color for a 96 SS! There never were any SSes made in Mystic Teal.
I had the 4th gen 1998 camaro v6 automatic in midnight blue and I loved it with the 3.8 liter engine, it was such an awesome car. I miss it and want it again. I should have kept it and put twin turbos in it. That car was so awesome.
I had a 97 30th anniversary SS 6spd LT1 not LT4. It was a great reliable car but the white leather seats and white wheels were impossible to keep clean. The only problem I had was of course the water pump went out at 65,000 and took the opti spark with it.
The SLP exhaust was an option as well as the Torsen led. The standard exhaust was the Z28 and the standard lsd was the GM mechanical gov lock. There were about 5 or 6 SLP options. I can't remember them all. The exhaust, Torsen and a hurst shifter for the 6spd and I believe suspension and performance tires which came with 4extra rims. When these were new they had two window stickers. The GM Z28 sticker and a smaller SLP sticker. The SLP one had the SS performance options. All for 96-97 SS. In 98 I believe GM switched production to in house.
I had a 1995 Z28 back in 97 senior high school days. I lost the car because of some issues that I got into. Later in the years I purchased an 87 IROC Z that I modified and soon after it was stolen and not recovered. Few years after I purchased a 96 Z28 to relive my high school day. The engine blew a few days after purchase. Fast forward to 2022 and I finally got my brand new Camaro SS1LE it was a dream come true, unfortunately the car was stolen and not recovered. My wife told me that I’m cursed with my favorite car and to give up on Camaros. I think it’s true. I would love one of these SS Camaros but I know something will happen if I ever get one.
Someone was familiar enough with F-bodies and their quirks to order that car with manual windows, which is cool. I had a 96 Z28 6 speed with literally every option (I had the dealer window sticker to prove it) except power windows. Whoever bought it originally even paid the extra cash for the chrome/polished “salad shooter” wheels that almost nobody bought, but not power windows!
That's a great car. I have a 97 6-speed in similar condition, came with the window sticker and all the paperwork from SLP, the floor mats, the car cover, etc. I really want to find a teal car. The Automatic SS don't seem to sell as well as the 6-speeds but the color of that car is what makes it special. The 1996-1997 SS were much lower production than the 1998-2002 SS. They made 2,410 in 1996 and 3,038 in1997. They made around 12,000 SS in 2002 alone. The96-97 were the only cars with the functional Ram Air because it turned out the air filter doesn't like to get wet. That may not be a 6-speed but its 1 of 77 Teal Metallic cars which is a highly desirable color. Even someone uptight about the transmission would consider a Teal car. Teal was 1996 only as well. I believe its the most rare SS color. You may have not gotten the Z28 SS floor mats as that was an option which would be listed in the passenger door jam or the SLP window sticker When these came out they were top dog on the street. Right out of the showroom they would flatten Mustangs or anything else. These got lumped in with Grand Nationals and Mustangs which were straight line cars but the IROCs could handle and the 4th Gens were world class handlers. The 1996 Camaro SS was also the quickest ever tested by Road and Track. First Camaro ever since 1967 to break 100mph trap speed out of the showroom. I like the 90s Japanese cars as well but they're so overpriced now. These cars and C4 Corvettes get overlooked because they were just so common. Even back in the day the only way you saw a MKIV Supra Turbo was in a magazine and then Fast and Furious created a new generation of enthusiasts. Don't sleep on the American 90s cars though. The interiors in everything was cheap back then but cars were also much more affordable. You want everything wrapped in leather and alcantara with German interior quality you're going to pay for it. A 1996 Z28 was like $18k brand new. Car companies now would rather make expensive cars than get slammed by reviewers for cheap interiors. The snobby reviewers got their way but you don't get something for nothing. These are also the last F-Bodies (shared platform with the Firebird). The newer Camaros are something removed from the past a bit and cancelled yet again as GM looks for a new path and turns its back on enthusiasts.
Nice one, I have a 97' Z28 Automatic in polo green with 179k miles. Everything you described is pretty spot on. They run fast that's for sure especially if they were fitted with the Z rated tires from the factory (no limiter at 118).
@@dnegel9546 They do if they don't have a z rated tire door sticker from the factory which a few didn't, Also none of the ss were limited that is only applicable to the Z28 models only.
Same, I had a 97 SS.... #0045.... I miss it but it had a few quirks that got under my skin.... would probably trade my vette back for it of the next owner treated it good😊
I will agree newer cars although incredibly fast, have no soul. There's more to a car than it's specs on paper. I bought a 2022 GT500, dream purchase. Fastest car I've ever owned, and I've owned a lot of fast cars. It looked incredible too. What I didn't expect was how disconnected I felt driving it. It was a digital experience, rather than an analog one and that didn't sit well with me. The size and heaviness also didn't help.
These cars are a hit or miss. My one lt1 lasted for 100,000 miles until the rear went. My other with 35,000 miles died after a major head problem. It could be sabotage but I am not pointing fingers. It ran perfect and went to a dealership that always did great work prior and I was told smoke was coming out. Cylinder head 7 went and now it’s a 3,500 job just look at it and at minimum $5.5k to potentially fix it.
I bought a 94 Z28 brand new after a lot of shopping. At 6'5" I didn't fit in the manual adjustment seats, but the power seats let me adjust it just enough to be comfortable. I Drove it from Dallas to Chicago several times a year comfortably. I had 2 Optispark die In irst 3 years. I have owned both 6 Speed and auto in this model car. The 6 speed was more fun but the auto was faster unless you really abused the 6 speed. The only reason I don't own one today is that the engine is hard to work on. Not horrible but I want to be able to pull an engine, you have to drop the whole front end to get the engine out. I recommend 93-02 Camaros for kids trying to get started in hot roding. They may need a lot of time but not much money to keep running. P.S. for my dayly drivers I like to buy 90's-2000's 4 cylinder Camrys with 150k miles and drive them to 300k. Over 30 MPH snd my total investment for cars and parts over the last 15 years was about $7000 about $40 a month. I am going to buy a 69 GTO with the money I saved by driving Camrys 😂
@PeterAngles-jq7gr I forgot they kept making Camaros till 02, I SHOULD edit my post The catfish Camaros with LS engines are awesome. I just like the looks of the 93-97 better because a 94 was the first car I bought brand new.
Last year I went to a guys house on market place to buy a blue, 1995 Z/28, automatic, mint, all original. I test drove it and it ran great. I went to the bank to pull out the agreed price of $2500. I came back to the guys house and the car would not start back up for nothing. I was told the fuel pump was expensive to fix, so I didn’t buy the car.
Mine 98 is half glass with the t tops. Compared to the brinks truck visibility of a lot of newer cars, it's the easiest car for me to drive. Then again 200k over the course of three of them, you get to know the cars.
I believe the F? Body which i think was this one killed more drivers than any car ever made due to spinouts. I've seen one spin right into a telephone pole racing a mustang years ago. I did really like the SS model.
@@jeremywhittler8591 real shame they never got it situated. So close to being a super car for ultra cheap. Always heard the trans am ws6 had much better traction but I’ve never experienced one for myself.
Makes me miss my 02 SS that I DD for many years. I traded it in on a 19 1SS 1LE, then on the same day that that high rise apartment collapsed in Fort Lauderdale some semi-truck hit my 1LE totaling it out. Yes GEN4 Fbody handling is a trip. They look like a car that would ride like crap, and beat you to death, but in stock forum, if your car came with the Delcrappo shock and not the Bilstein's (SLP cars) or Koni's (1LE) its ride is similar to say a Crown Vic. It's very plush, softly sprung, kind of floaty, and a lot of up and down suspension travel. When being pushed hard in a turn there's a lot of lean and body roll, and you're like, "holy crap, IDK if this car can take this corner going this fast," yet the car bites down and holds its line, and grips through the turn. No, it's not a C5 Z06, but a GEN4 Fbody will run with other cars from its era on a road course. I don't look at more expensive Japanese cars from its era like MKIV Supras, or 300 ZX, 3000GT/Stealth, etc and think that a GEN4 Fbody can't hang. It can absolutely maintain pace with these cars on a road course, if not outpace them, especially with some better brake pads, and DOT4 fluid. GEN4 Fbody is a very capable handling car with a few mods, and housing a 315 up front is not an issue for them. It does have a very good steering feel. Its steering wheel sucks, and is way too large in diameter, while the griping surface is too thin, but the feel is tight and responsive. Its layed down position, while looking over a long dash and hood is not ideal and makes the car feel bigger than it is, but the manual cars have a better shifter location than the SN95 cars had, but overall I preferred Mustangs ergonomics and outside visibility over Fbodys, but Fbody had a better chassis/suspension setup. The Fbody felt like it would be a crappy handling car, but then surprises you with how capable it's handling actually was, but a Foxbody/SN95 Mustang on the other hand felt like a competent handling car, but then out of nowhere it would let go and bite you on the arse hard. It's amazing for as much as things change, how much stays the same. Mustangs always had a better seating position, and its always had far superior outside visibility. (This is not just a GEN5/GEN6 Mustang/Camaro thing) Mustang has always been an easier car to live with on a day bases. Camaro's always had a superior, less budgeted chassis/suspension setup. Camaro's always been a car more geared to the hardcore performance enthusiasts that compromises other things to prioritize performance.
The handling isn’t bad. I disagree with the crown Vic handling. I have a 93 z28 and used to have a 94 v6 with the z28 suspension option. The v6 handled better (due to its lighter nose weight) but didn’t have the power to pull you out of a corner. My z28 handles just fine. I’ve driven dozens of crown Vics and even modern Camaros.
@@CamaroAmx you're not taking the time to properly read what I said before commenting. I never said a GEN4 Fbody handled like a CV, I said it rode kind of like one. Point I was making in that a GEN4 Fbody looks like a hardcore muscle car that would ride poorly, but it's actually a pretty soft riding car that's somewhat underspung feeling with a lot of suspension movement. My 02 SS rode way nicer than my 03 Lightning, or 03 Cobra (which rides stiff, but not harsh like the L) and even my old 99 GT. BTW we used to have a 01 CV for several years. While in no way a sports car, many have hustled down a lot of fleeing cars on the road. My base (non SLP/non 1LE) 02 SS when stock definitely handled better than my moms 99 V6 Firebird, but LS1's are noticeably lighter than 350's.
I gave my 1994 Z28 6-speed the full Sam Strano treatment with Koni yellow adjustable shocks . I think it would surprise most people with how competent it is on a road course and canyon roads . I also installed Kooks long tube headed with a catted y-pipe and a magnaflow cat back . Between the exhaust a K&N cold air intake and tune it’s a pretty fast fun analog car . I had one in grade 12 it was my second car after a 1995 mustang GT so the nostalgia kinda cool too . Upgraded the brakes to the LS1 front calipers with EBC rotors on all 4 corners and yellow stuff pads , makes a hugeeeee difference.
Ahh the 90’s where manufacturers actually put functional scoops or shakers on hoods. No traction control or nannies and a good old push rod v8 Not the most power but great sound and quick enough to have fun Not a bad looking car either either Very well taken care of car
@@lb9gta307I tuned mine with HP Tuners to shift harder. No more gear hunting or weird shifts. It just shifts quickly for an old school electronically controlled automatic.
I'm a bit tired of hearing taller people gripe about room. They always want MORE, but never acknowledge that it might be too much for someone else. No one gives a crap about my short body fitting in a car, or finding a pair of shoes. If you're short, you're not even an afterthought. Stores don't even think you exist.
It's how Canadians say "Z". I worked for Ford customer service for a few years and whenever I'd get someone from Canada on the line they'd most often say Zed when spelling something with a Z in it or like he does in the video. If this were a video about a Z06 Vette he'd definitely say "Zed 06" I'm sure 😅

@@FWDSUXARSE you could do a delete (very easy actually) but in many cases when you took it to the dealer for service, the dealer would reactivate it.
Wtf is a zed 28????
uk, canada, some other countries say that
As well as New Zealand & Australia. It used to bug me until I married a kiwi years ago.
It's a Z/28 as pronounced by a man who watched Top Gear.
In Canada we say “ Z” as ZED.
Zed is annoying. Z/28!!!!
thats a really nice camaro, but the '1 of 7' thing just reminds me of all the memes about 'this car is 1 of 7 with these specs in sunrise yellow built on a full moon tuesday in that specific factory' .
Lol true, some people appreciate those kind of stats and some don't
Credit to your Dad and family keeping the car unmolested. I worked at Chevy Engineering.
Beautiful and rare spec and love the color.
i had a 90 rs with v8 and the 700r4, all the things you are saying about the trans feel and power delivery are spot on. now i want to look into getting one myself again. i was 15 in 2000 and that '90 camaro was one of my first cars. so fun
It's Z, Zed's dead, baby.
Thank you!!!😂
LMAO 🤣🤣🤣 right lol
Yeah.....the first time was forgivable but after the second time.....I was like......WTH is going on???😂
It's not a bike, it's a chopper.
So is the Camaro.
That is the best looking 4th Gen pre catfish face
Not a catfish front end that would be the 98 to 02 model
@9etherbo he said "pre catfish" for a reason dude
That's why he said pre catfish@@9etherbo
I had a 1994 Z-28 Camaro back in the day. Good memories.
Beautiful Camaro. I own a '96 Corvette LT4 car- quite powerful actually.
Oh my, that is gorgeous! And I have always loved that color.
My bad... looks like Mystic Teal was more of a green color than this?
I had the 4th gen 1998 camaro v6 automatic in midnight blue and I loved it with the 3.8 liter engine, it was such an awesome car. I miss it and want it again. I should have kept it and put twin turbos in it. That car was so awesome.
Thats my dream car these came out when i was in highschool
I had a 97 30th anniversary SS 6spd LT1 not LT4. It was a great reliable car but the white leather seats and white wheels were impossible to keep clean. The only problem I had was of course the water pump went out at 65,000 and took the opti spark with it.
Loved your humor at the start!
Even though I own a black 94' Z28 T-Top '6 Speed car, seeing videos make me want to buy another one lol.
I had those options. You could dump the clutch and no worry at all
Im drooling over that color
If you can find a "stock" SLP firehawk, it is likely the best iteration of the Fbody.
Always loved these cars
You may have not gotten the Z28 SS floor mats as that was an option which would be listed in the passenger door jam or the SLP window sticker
When these came out they were top dog on the street.
My dad's was 94 Z28 {same color) I loved it
I'm Canadian from Windsor, ON (our motor city) and I've never heard another Canadian call it a "Zed"-28. Nice car and vid.
Trans is a 4L60E. An aftermarket cooler probably wouldn't be a bad idea, as heat is what kills these.
These early 4th gens always looked so much better to me than the later ones.
I believe the 1997 Camaro SS was also sourced out to SLP. 1998 was a different beast altogether and was done on the regular GM plant in Boisbriand.
Nice one, I have a 97' Z28 Automatic in polo green with 179k miles. Everything you described is pretty spot on. They run fast that's for sure especially if they were fitted with the Z rated tires from the factory (no limiter at 118).
Didnt know these had limiters.
@@dnegel9546 They do if they don't have a z rated tire door sticker from the factory which a few didn't, Also none of the ss were limited that is only applicable to the Z28 models only.
Very nice Camaro. Great condition!
That turn signal just rings of quality lol!
"This is a big car" It's classified as a compact. The transmission is a 4L60E which is an electronicly controlled 700R4, effectively.
I had a 1997 SS #1500 and loved it for the years I owned it. Should have kept it.
Your dad has great taste!
I have a 96 “Z” 28 with manual windows, seats, mirrors, etc and a hardtop. The weird thing is, my VIN comes up as an SS but, has no SS badging.
Makes me miss my old 94'
The SS is sweet no doubt ! That’s also a BA MR2 in the background !!
Mine 98 is half glass with the t tops. Compared to the brinks truck visibility of a lot of newer cars, it's the easiest car for me to drive. Then again 200k over the course of three of them, you get to know the cars.
Adjust the detent cable to change the shifting hard thing if you want to. I'm guessing they still had them in that car .
I see Chevy cavalier everywhere in there, grew up with one
That paint is clean!!
It's about to get even cleaner!
How tall are you? My buddy is 6’2” and never had a problem in his Trans Ams. I’m 6’ and never had a problem in my Camaros.
It came full circle, you, driving around in your pop's car, chirpin the tires, and sayin "yeah i kept it at the speed limits" 🤫🤣
The lack of traction I experienced when driving one was a dealbreaker. False confidence inspiring
I believe the F? Body which i think was this one killed more drivers than any car ever made due to spinouts.

I did really like the SS model.

Compared to my buddy's old MKIV Supra I'd agree, handling in stock form is pretty similar!
No traction control or nannies and a good old push rod v8
Not the most power but great sound and quick enough to have fun
Not a bad looking car either either
Very well taken care of car

@@michaelm3381I tuned VATS out when I got HP Tuners and never looked back. Did egr delete and tuned that out at same time.
Wrong info off the jump. Camaro 4th gen style started in 1993 NOT 1996.
4L60E is a smooth transmission, you probably just need to change the oil or really break it in.
It's a smooth transmission when it's programmed to be smooth
@@lb9gta307I tuned mine with HP Tuners to shift harder. No more gear hunting or weird shifts. It just shifts quickly for an old school electronically controlled automatic.
I'm a bit tired of hearing taller people gripe about room. They always want MORE, but never acknowledge that it might be too much for someone else. No one gives a crap about my short body fitting in a car, or finding a pair of shoes. If you're short, you're not even an afterthought. Stores don't even think you exist.
Right they should buy an expedition if they want room.
I fit just fine in my 95 Camaro and I'm 6'3.
The LT-1 does have good low end grunt.
4:54 in the 90s an accord was smaller than the current civic. Just 80s 90s gas crunch things
I owned a couple of these cars when they were new, they didn't squeak..over time, plastic ages even if it was in a bubble.
What the hell is a ZED???
It's how Canadians say "Z". I worked for Ford customer service for a few years and whenever I'd get someone from Canada on the line they'd most often say Zed when spelling something with a Z in it or like he does in the video.
