Aboveup Well shit, so once the good writers were taken up they may as well just have handed a pen and pad to the special effects guys and had em go to town?
@@malikoniousjoe Broly DBZ Janeway is the result of some writers thinking a strong female character also has to be a strong and tough character all of the time. Wheras Picard might dither or compromise at a negotiating table to get the best outcome Janeway HAS to prove she's big and strong

Guys, THIS is the kind of stuff we want full LPs of. You can go to any gaming channel and find a Let's Play of RE7 or Batman the Telltale Series. You can't go to just any channel and see a full LP of a PS1 era Star Trek game. That's what sets you apart. Pat and Matt both have really interesting and funny commentary on the Star Trek series and I would love to hear more. You've never done a full Star Trek LP. Please consider continuing this game!
Janeway screwing things over in the finale to Voyager is actually even worse than Pat's half-remembered ramblings. The future timeline is actually pretty cool. Most of the Voyager crew who had survived until that point in the series made it home in one piece and were perfectly happy from what we see. Tuvok is the only one we're shown who's not okay, having a brain disease. But we're shown everyone else has moved on, had kids and are really enjoying life. The Tuvok thing sucks, but that's life, and literally everyone else is doing awesome, living in a state of perpetual orgasm. But Janeway can't stand people being happy and decides to erase these lives (and the existence of the kids who were conceived in this timeline(!!!)). And risks future technology falling into Borg hands. But mainly she hates puppies and rainbows and the smiles on little babies' faces and needed to erase it all.
The whole series was super fine, IMO. It's just too bad, it took like a whole other series with four season, two movies and a reboot after years of silence to realize that... Edit: Well, except for f****ing Paris'es and Janeway's lizard babies...
Starship WRONG: Captain - Janeway First Officer - Griffith Second Officer - Caim Chief of Security - Eric Sparrow Chief Engineer - Vic "Friend of Freq" Van Lier Also starring Ensign Pat
Fun fact: in one Voyager episode, the medical hologram was 'reactivated' to find that he had been offline for hundreds of years. Similarly, he was reactivated on the planet of a race that considered the Voyager crew to be the worst war criminals in their entire history, and there was a powerful movement to have him put on trial. They even had holodeck reconstructions of events that took place hundreds of years ago that made them look like violent, genocidal maniacs who would kill hundreds of thousands on a whim if it served their self-interest. And, in a plot twist, it turns out that this is apparently one of the few times when the Voyager crew was legitimately *not* guilty of any war crimes.
I genuinely think you guys would get a lot of fun and mileage out of a Let's Play for the sequel on PC. Taking place in the Alpha Quadrant for a more familiar setting to talk and joke about, Picard as your Captain, dueling with a Ferengi in the Rules of Acquisition, fighting dumb alien bug monsters, and the choice of romancing either your squadmate or a hot alien lady who walks around in a bikini.
Chuck at sfdebris usually goes pretty in depth into Janeway's psychosis. I think the best theory is from Janeway's cameo in Star Trek Nemesis, where Janeway manipulated the whole movie's plot in a mad plan to become the highest ranking officer in Starfleet. And it still makes more sense the movie's plot as presented.
I know this is several years old...but you're totally forgetting that Sisko absolutely took part in a plot with Garek who is an ex member of the Cardassian Obsidian Order to bring the Romulan Star Empire into the Dominion War that resulted in the murder/assassination of a Romulan ambassador.
So another fucked up thing about the Tuvix ep, the doctor fucking goes "I can't fucking do this" because he took an oath to not do harm, so Janeway does the operation to unfuse them herself
Anyone notice that at one point Matt and Pat are talking about two different species, but I don't think they realized that Matt was thinking about a Bolian and that Pat was thinking of a Benzite?
I totally forgot too... and I thought this was only on the PC on the Quake 3 engine (and it was actually good)... ... and geez, it was actually released 2000!?
I loved TNG and DS9 but never got around to voyager. Hearing about scumbag Janeway from two guys who clearly love the franchise as much as I once did is so fun.
Some quotes on the lizard episode: From the supervising producer, Brannon Braga: "I wrote the episode, or at least the teleplay [....] And... it had some good intentions behind it. It had a good premise, breaking the warp ten barrier. I don't know where this whole 'de-evolving into a lizard' thing came from." From Paris Actor Robert Duncan Mcneil: "When I read the first draft," he said, "I couldn't get it. I thought they took on much more than could be handled in one episode. ... I did not feel the original story ended very well." Braga also explains: "It's very much a classic Star Trek story, but in the rewrite process I took out the explanation, the idea behind the ending, that we evolve into these little lizards because maybe evolution is not always progressive. Maybe it's a cycle where we revert to something more rudimentary. That whole conversation was taken out for various reasons, and that was a disaster because without it the episode doesn't even have a point. I think it suffered greatly."
My favorite thing about the Janeway’s alliance with the Borg was framed. For like 5 episodes Janeway ran a hallowdeck program where she hung out with Leonardo Da Vinci played by goddam John Resse Davies. After framing her Borg problem into a context he can understand Da Davies says “We will awake the Abbot, visit the chapel, and appeal to God.” After which Janeway turns to a shadow on the all and literally say “Somehow I don't think that's going to work for me. But there is an alternative I haven't considered. What if I made an appeal to the Devil?”
Janeway can't hold a candle to the legend of the Sparrow. my Captaining rate is 5 G's, i need 5 in my hand or i won't work. i don't CARE how many Borg are waiting!
Pat you forgot one of the worst Janeway crimes of all: 7 of 9 was assimilated by the Borg at such a young age she literally could not function outside of the collective and all she wanted to do was go back to the Borg after she was "freed", but Janeway was like "no, fuck you, I'm doing you a favor" and forced 7 to stay and work for her on Voyager.
Can we get a series of videos of Pat just telling Matt bout every episode of star trek. Or just voyager and deep space 9 because Deep space 9 is fucking Rad.
Can we just get a series called, "Patt Rants" and its all about patt ranting about stupid stories for like 15 minutes at a time. It can be about ANYTHING and it could go on forever.
One time Janeway forced a bunch of crew members to go on an away mission with her, so they'd like her more. They ended up hitting another ship and murdering an innocent alien. Janeway's plan to deal with the situation was to blow up the asteroid field they were in; killing all the witnesses. And when one of the crew decided to get into an escape pod to slow the other ship down she still blew everything up.
Hey, Pat. You should give Star Trek Online a chance. It's significantly better than I was expecting. Also, one of the best character creation systems I've ever seen
Yeah my favorite part of that game is the enmasse pay2win mechanics inside of RNG crates you have to either grind months to open a single one or pay 2 bux a key with less than .5% chance to get the item. Oh right not to mention perfect world requires all new ship content be trapped in said boxes so all you get is stale years old content that is the same content from when the game first launched. Great game!
i don't know if pat ever played star trek online but it's basically janeways fault the beginning of that game starts with everyone going to war against the federation
While Janeway is bad, Archer is worse. He is a racist against Vulcans because daddy issues Acts like a petulant child when dealing with other alien races, Helps an enemy of the Vulcans, who just beat him up and threaten to molest one of his crew, destroy a Vulcan spy station because spying on your enemies is wrong Condemns a race to extinction because that's the "path of evolution" and feels proud for doing so
Janeway was a dissident, but Sisko was a straight up CRIMELORD - and I goddam love him for it. Remember when he tried to forge some fake evidence then had the official killed when he got caught? Well, technically he just erased the log of events, but still...
Pat's wrongness is now leaking out into everything. The Borg first enconter in TNG was Q Who, not Best of Both Worlds. And I always figured that a Borg cube that big probably holds millions of Borg or Drones. So if someone boards the cube and shoots maybe six Borg before they adapt its really no big deal at all because the Borg don't fucking care. What loss is 6 or so drones to the Borg? Especially there are MULTIPLE cubes of the size we see in Q Who and Best of Both Worlds. I must say that Pat constantly talking shit about Janeway kind of makes up for this though. Haven't laughed like that in a while.
Or you'd think they would realize that it's worth the time to assimilate high ranking members of the crew, if for no other reason than to destabilize the command structure. Like, if you see a guy with more than one pip on their collar, assimilate that fucker. Download the crew logs and find out who the important people on the ship are and assimilate them.
I thought we all agreed to treat Star Trek: Enterprise like Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull - they simply don't exist. Did you not get the newsletter? They sent it out to every nerd in the world.
Whatever the Internet says, having watched the entire series (secretly hoping that the next episode would get better) I can say that, in my opinion, it was terrible. Maybe if they didn't try to bill it as a Star Trek show I would be nicer to it, but alas, they attempted to enter the pastry competition with a collapsed souffle. There were some decent elements, but it was far too dense for its own good and not even supposed to be there in the first place.
Jeedy Jay As someone who's never seen an episode of Star Trek ever, I get the feeling Tuvix is a shit. I'd also like to point out that characters being shits isn't a good justification for murder. Otherwise the Best Friends would have had their intestines pulled outta their noses LONG ago.
Janeway may be a bit shady, but after the Dominion War the Frderation probably needed a feel good story about one small ship braving the odds and returning safely home from the other end of the Galaxy. I guarantee anything that was a little morally bankrupt got swept under the rug, just like the time Ensign Kim got a space STD.
"What if the Borg got hold of a ship from the future?" That did kinda happen, IIRC. The phase-shifting missles that ignore shields that the Narada had in Star Trek '09 were the ones that Janeway brought back from the future.
Space... The final frontier... Except it isn't... well, maybe it is...? I think...? Eh... screw it.... blah blah "year is something something" yada yada something bad.... bleh... get in there. Also when's TimeSplitters LP? I needs some crotches to be split sideways!
Lady Pepper But I keep it strong with practice almost every day. also Still can't see you, Gungho. Seriously hoping that stupid auto spam garbage makes you visible again.
Lady Pepper Chris had the same thing happen but with him its understandable because he has salty haters. Don't know how Gungho got put into auto spam. I don't know who'd ever hate on him.
I loved both this and Star Trek: 25th Anniversary on PC. Never played the ps2 port though. I also remember some TNG games that played like point and click adventures that I enjoyed during my childhood.
Janeway's maiden name is Sparrow, and if you go back far enough she has an ancestor named Griffith.
You guys are kind of combining three or four episodes into a hazy memory, here and there.

Me too! It's like when Mike Stoklasa (from Red Letter Media) goes into his Star Trek rants. I'd love to see an entire video series based on it.
I actually prefer listening to Pat talk about Star Trek than actually watch Star Trek itself.
I love how much their energy level spikes when Janeway shows up. This channel thrives on the presence of a nemesis.
Pat has told the Warp 10 lizard story like 20 times in the past 5 years but I'm strangely okay with that

He was always sapient. That's what he needs in order to function.
This!
You've got it backwards. Sentience is just having senses; sapience is having a human level of consciousness.

Wow Mass Effect Andromeda doesn't look anywhere near as bad as people say
Janeway broke the prime directive, abandoned her mission, assisted in genocide, AND screwed over her crew all at once in the VERY FIRST EPISODE.
Some quotes on the lizard episode:
From the supervising producer, Brannon Braga:
"I wrote the episode, or at least the teleplay [....] And... it had some good intentions behind it. It had a good premise, breaking the warp ten barrier. I don't know where this whole 'de-evolving into a lizard' thing came from."
From Paris Actor Robert Duncan Mcneil:
"When I read the first draft," he said, "I couldn't get it. I thought they took on much more than could be handled in one episode. ... I did not feel the original story ended very well."
Braga also explains:
"It's very much a classic Star Trek story, but in the rewrite process I took out the explanation, the idea behind the ending, that we evolve into these little lizards because maybe evolution is not always progressive. Maybe it's a cycle where we revert to something more rudimentary. That whole conversation was taken out for various reasons, and that was a disaster because without it the episode doesn't even have a point. I think it suffered greatly."
This needed a full LP.
My favorite thing about the Janeway’s alliance with the Borg was framed. For like 5 episodes Janeway ran a hallowdeck program where she hung out with Leonardo Da Vinci played by goddam John Resse Davies.

I get the feeling Janeway is gonna be up their with Eric Sparrow after this video.
She's worse. Eric screws Woolz, Janeway screws the Universe!
Janeway sounds like Eric's dream woman
Janeway is trying to actually get her crew home. Eric just rocks up to little Woolz to insult him even though Woolz is better than him.
Janeway can't hold a candle to the legend of the Sparrow. my Captaining rate is 5 G's, i need 5 in my hand or i won't work. i don't CARE how many Borg are waiting!
What you don't know is that Janeway 's secret last name is Sparrow and she comes from a long line of fuck faces.
The episode with the weird lizard babies is called "Threshold" if you all are interested. XD
...nah, I'm good.
Sisko was top tier, by far the best Captain and the fact that Pat agrees with me makes all the arguments I ever had worth it.
RIP Tuvix. You weren't great, but that was a rough way to go
This was the BEST... I always love your Star Treks vids. DO MORE!!!

Man, this feels really good, having Matt and Pat just chilling and talking about Star Trek. Missed this kinda stuff.
I really want Star Trek playthroughs just so Pat can tell Voyager stories.
Man, I'd love to see them play all the way through a Star Trek game, just to see how many times they say 'HONOR' .
In Janeway's defence, Pat was wrong about pretty much everything he said she did.
Abusing time travel to kill the Borg, blowing up planets, ramming starships, tank tops, fighting Robocop villains? Janeway sounds metal as fuck.
This is easily one of my favorite videos on all of youtube.
Hey, Pat. You should give Star Trek Online a chance. It's significantly better than I was expecting. Also, one of the best character creation systems I've ever seen

he'll get things wrong but he'll make your life sound interesting.
what the hell are you even talking about??
I remember these two games blowing my mind as a kid, so cool to see them get a highlight on the channel.
I paused Deep Space Nine to watch this.
*Sisko Disproves*

Space.
The Final Fuckery.
an infinite canvas upon which to commit war crimes
omg. I cannot stop laughing! 21:57 -- "he's fighting Predators, Palpatine, and Jason Vorhees and shit."
I started to love Janeway as a character once I started considering her the villain.
well I wouldn't necessarily say she's a villain she's just a little miss guided
Within the first 15 seconds, I was like "Oh boy. A Majesco game. Purveyors of absolute time-honored classics."

NEERRRRRRD
they should at least attack when they know some one is going around killing borgs for maximum efficiency
As someone who never really watched much Star Trek, Star Trek is one of my favorite SBFP topics of discussion.
Really, Pat? You're pouring one out for fucking _Tuvix?_
I think it's mostly just to shit on Janeway, and I'll let him cause it's fucking funny as hell.
I always questioned Janeway decisions, but the Tuvix part... yeah, Tuvix needed to go, It was fucking horrible :D
pat telling stories about voyager was the best
Janeway may be a bit shady, but after the Dominion War the Frderation probably needed a feel good story about one small ship braving the odds and returning safely home from the other end of the Galaxy.
I guarantee anything that was a little morally bankrupt got swept under the rug, just like the time Ensign Kim got a space STD.
"What if the Borg got hold of a ship from the future?"
That did kinda happen, IIRC. The phase-shifting missles that ignore shields that the Narada had in Star Trek '09 were the ones that Janeway brought back from the future.
Pat knows why too much about this shit....FINALLY Pat finds a game that he isn't wrong about.
Holy shit, these Star Trek LPs have such an old-school TBFP feel to them. Love it.
Janeway's the Eric Sorrow of spaceship captains "Aww Jeez Admiralty Board, you see the thing about my crew was..."
Sparrow* fuck
no, keep that name, thats good shit.
Every time I've tried to watch Voyager, I've fallen asleep. This, however, I can listen to forever.
Space... The final frontier... Except it isn't... well, maybe it is...? I think...? Eh... screw it.... blah blah "year is something something" yada yada something bad.... bleh... get in there.
Also when's TimeSplitters LP? I needs some crotches to be split sideways!
Lady Pepper My crotch splitter is feeling grossly underutilized.
Stan Sketches This is why you should always use it at the best of your abilities, lest it falls in disrepair and jank.
Lady Pepper But I keep it strong with practice almost every day.

Still can't see you, Gungho. Seriously hoping that stupid auto spam garbage makes you visible again.
Stan Sketches Ugh, this auto spam is really gettin' on my nerves right now.
Lady Pepper Chris had the same thing happen but with him its understandable because he has salty haters. Don't know how Gungho got put into auto spam. I don't know who'd ever hate on him.
15:11 ...Mark the date, because Pat's totally right. I don't Star Trek, but this Janeway war crimes bit is amazing.
True facts: I loved this game.
It looks fun, I wish I could play it!
I'd argue that it's actually a fairly solid and decent game. Probably one of- if not the best Star Trek game.
Backward Rocket Studios That's...not a high bar.
I loved both this and Star Trek: 25th Anniversary on PC. Never played the ps2 port though. I also remember some TNG games that played like point and click adventures that I enjoyed during my childhood.
This is one of my favorite episodes in years. Star Trek hype
