Hey y'all, I got my butt kicked in Stoneshard today but it taught me a valuable lesson about how important it is to hunt/farm in the early game to get some gold and levels. We will be back tomorrow...and the next day to put that strategy into action.

Here's some tips related to this episode.
    1. NL was wearing broken chest armor the whole time, since Arna starts with very good, but very broken full plate armor that needs to be fixed. He probably doesn't have nearly enough money for this, but if you go to the blacksmith, there's a little button you can press to repair metal equipment in the shop menu. It looks like a hammer and anvil. Until NL can fix the chest armor, he should probably wear something else, since broken equipment has much, much lower benefits and full penalties. If arnas plate armor is anything like other plate armor, he might actually be better off not wearing anything at all, since they have some pretty serious drawbacks. On top of that, it's just gonna get more broken and more expensive to repair as he takes hits with it on, even though it's doing almost nothing for him.
    2. Vivifying essence is basically a health potion, it instantly heals 35% of your HP. (and that's based on your actual max, not what your max HP is after being reduced by injury.) If NL had killed the archer first and drank it up he might have actually been able to win the 1v3 at the end, since it has two charges. Finding it was super lucky, they're a bit pricey, and very useful.
    3. Pain goes up whenever you take damage and whenever body parts aren't at full HP. NL wasn't damaged enough to be injured, but he was almost injured in like 3 different areas and kept taking hits, so his pain just kept increasing till those parts healed. He could have salved to start recovering from pain faster, and he had enough food to just rest it out regardless.
    4. Pain naturally goes down slowly whenever your body parts are barely hurt/ not hurt at all. It's very slow though, so you are better off using something to alleviate it. You can't get ether inhalers until way later, but you can use herbal remedies like the one he found or an herb called bogbean that you can buy from town for dirt cheap to use as a natural painkiller. If an item says "pain change -1% 30x" on it, that means it will reduce your pain by 1% each turn for 30 turns, so that herbal remedy he found would have gotten rid of his pain easily. Alcohol is another option, the good stuff is arguably better than an ether inhaler.
    5. Intoxication also goes down over time. Getting a little intoxication is no big deal, so don't worry too much about using herbal remedies and stuff, even if it puts you over 25%. Some rest or eating pinecaps will bring it under that debuff threshold in no time and then it will just slowly go down on it's own with no fuss.
    6. You can sleep an hour after you've gotten your contract and done all your preparation in town just to make a save and ensure you don't have to do it all over again.

    NL please.
    - Abuse rest more.. pretty much after every battle.
    - Make sure your body parts are at 100% green, with the salve so you remove the pain status
    - treat the game like Zelda when it comes to barrels and crates. break everything they have stuff.
    - Enemies struggle with doors and when u jump out of a zone, if you are getting surrounded, jump back outside the dungeon or move a map tile.
    - sort out a ranged weapon/spell, even if its just a bow to hit them before they get to you. every bit of damage helps.
p.s you had a health potion in your bag when you died. that probably would have saved you.

Hey NL! Commenting and liking to support, and leaving a few tips I got from the prologue that you may have missed and could help you:
    - Enemies don't open doors, and are attracted by sound. Try to explore open sections first and then lockpicking and opening other doors.
    - You can change weapons and do whatever mid fight, it costs a turn. So you can use a bow and when they are 2 spaces away change to board and shield.
    - Judging by this episode, I think pain goes down if your limbs and everything is healthy. There are bones that get more red with injuries in the health screen, that might be it.
    - Talking to the guy you play as in the prologue gives information about the town, he tells you where the elder is, and other people if you are interested, although there is also a lot of fake lore.
    - Crates have food sometimes, and they are easy enough to break.
    - Check enemy skills if you encounter a new type, that gives you an idea on who to focus or how to position against.
Enough rambling, keep the good work and have fun Ryan, thank you for so many hours of entertainment throughout the years.

Hey NL I have a handy tip or two for you. In the guard house below the elder's room there are weapon racks with one of most kinds of starter weapon you can steal without consequence, including a bow and arrow. The bow is very useful for getting an enemy's aggro so you can draw them away from a group and fight one on one. You character will suck with the bow at first, as well as most other things, but it's worth it to avoid fighting groups.
Also there are snakes in the forest which are stealthed until you step on them, and their poison is borderline leathal. You can spot them with detect traps skill.

i'm not an expert on this game but i've played for some time and got to the other village. So here are some tips:
-the only significant disadvantage to rest mode is hunger, which wouldn't be a real problem if you pack food or if you could find it somewhere(barrels) so use after almost every fight so you don't start the next with no energy or health
-break barrels, not only can they drop you the aforementioned food but they also can drop alchohol which is useful for pain and you can wait out the drunkness with rest mode.
-grind a bit. the drop rates and xp gain in the prologue are way more exaggerated than the rest of the game so grinding is almost nescesary; go into the forest near the village and hunt some animals and maybe fight the some bandits and when your inventory fills up go sell stuff and sleep for the day
-the question marks on the map are camps that when cleared out will provide an outpost for you to sleep amd save
-the moment you an enemy becomes hostile retreat and bait them so you don't alert an potentially nearby enemies
-if you are considering magic then definetly go for geomancy as soon as it's available; it offers great area control spells: runic boulder can block paths, deal damage, provide buffs and lead to another spell: stone spikes which can basically garantee a win in a fight paired with other ranged attacks

    • @fleasy4393
      @fleasy4393 4 роки тому +1

I switched from fighter to mage just because runic boulder is ez mode for the game. You have to actively mess up to get into melee range if you don't want to be.

Also, even mid combat you can drink potions (costs one turn, so the enemy will move after that) and you had one health potion that coulda seen you through that fight (maaaaybe..). And lastly, if you see an enemy don't skip past them.. they'll probably go after you even if they only caught a glimpse... and that enemy you skipt past was actually the boss it seems, since he was big and seemed to have a tied guy next to him (the kidnapped merchant).

But here ara some tips I can give you based on my experience with stoneshard:
    - In the barracks' 1st floor (the building with the Elder) near the soldiers beds are weapon racks with all basic tier weapons, good for selling or having the weapon for your build.
    - You will never sell an item for its total value but you can get higher prices by selling it to the correct merchant (really easy to assume base on the description of the item).
    - In the early game is a good practice to get Lvl 2 before diving into a dungeon. Hunt down some animals (beware the bears) and sell their pelts to the leather guy, you can cook the veninson from deers and mooses but they run from you a lot. One thing is that you get XP for when you witness kills, so if wolves fight bandits you can get the XP/loot and clear the survivos after. Luring them into eachother might be doable but be cautious with the bears, even if 1 bear is worth a lot, only engage if it is 20-15% hp or even less actually.
    - I'd recommend to scout those questionmarks in the map around your town first since they are usually bandit camps (with 2-3 badits, some loot and a sleeping bag to save) or the Witch house (high end loot and mage gear), and after getting lvl 2 dive into the dungeons.
    - When playing Arna is a good thing early in the game if you can repair her starting armor, it`s a decent stat boost but costs 500ish coins at the blacksmith, the same thing goes for other gear that you're using.
    - In the early game its recommended fighting enemies one by one like in 14:50 you can aggro only one foe at time, since they have small range of sight.
    - Another general tip is that differently from the tutorial accessories are kinda rare so they are valuable and so worth enchanting early.
    - The general debuffs you get from the survival mechanics can be ignored in the first stages if you are deep in the dungeons, like 'Pain' stage 1 is OK to keep but Strong 'Pain' and specially 'Pain Shock' can be deadly. So if low on painkillers its better to save up.
    - The trap detection skill searches in all tiles in sight, so you don't need to use in every square, but traps can appear in hallways so beware, also with the spike traps you can lure enemies into it since it works every turn, they can help you a lot.
    - Diagonal movement is olny possible if the adjacent squares between you and the diagonal are empty.
    - Don't be afraid of resting often since it helps you a lot in though fights, plus if you are hit with a crit in a bodypart alrady damaged it will in most cases result with an injury.
    - You're already aware of the awesomeness of Pinecaps, but gathering a few herbs in the fields also can help you be it in travelling or fighting.
    - In the earlygame its best practice to keep changing weapons once they break, repairing is very expensive (you only get a repairkit for them on the second town), even Arna's unique sword is just a good basic tier drop. If you lack inventory space you can put them on you alternative weapon slot.
    - Shields aren't worth using if they just give 1 Protection or if you don't go down on their Skilltree, so dual wielding is optimal most of the time.
    - I'd advise to focus on one of the damage types when you build you character:
Bleeding (Axes, Swords, Daggers) Bodypart/Injury (Axes, Greatswords) or ArmorDmg (Maces mostly).
-There are three types of dungeons:
Bandits - Good for all types of damage
Cultist (like the tutorial) - Bleed does the best
Necromancer - Crushing damage is the best vs Skeletons
Fire damage goes OK on all places
    - The Wellrested (when you sleep you get a buff) is very valuable in the early game, and the wellfed buff is very good on long fights like the bossfights (the big punk bandit at 25:08 was the dungeon boss).
    - I don't know if you already have a backlog of videos on Stoneshard but the build I reached the end of the game's content with Arna was going for Mace's/Geomancy, it requires you to get a Geomancy book relatively early on the merchant (that is missing because of the quests RNG you got), but pays off with the permastuns. Plus Geomancy is a fun/well designed category.
Anyway, hope you can find time to read all of this if you see the comment.
The game is really fun and challenging. Hope you stick with is for a while :D

I was also going to add some tips but looks like you got them all covered. Especially that part about Arna's armour. Makes a huge different to have those extra stats but that 500 repair cost is going to hurt. Just to add a few of my own:
      - it's actually very possible to clear a contract at level 1 (as long as you chose the one that's threat level: Average on the map). I found it easier to grab a 2H sword with Arna, but it should still be doable with the skills NL has already picked.
      - honestly, avoid bears and wolves and go straight for the dungeon. Wolves you can maybe deal with if you can ensure a 1v1 by going around trees.
      - bandages, healing salves, and herbal essences are the main survival items. 2 of each (they're quite cheap) should be plenty to help you get through the first contract. And 1 splint just in case of an injury
      - you can stock up on cheap food from merchants in the middle of town (cooked drumsticks should suffice)

@@UrAverageGamer9000 Yeah the price got increased recently but usually its doable before lvl 3
The fact that you take so much damage in the early game makes preparation take a lot of your inventory, I usually take more healing than 2 of each, but tend to hunt for trouble and the hard dungeons. Idk if NL would fight all 5 on Oskbrookor just the 3, so I suggested the camps so he can go for the good loot.
Hope we go for a long ride like Hades but idk if the game would have enough content

Since you talk a bit about builds, let me consult you if you don't mind. I've been playing with the ranger guy, and obviously speccing into ranged, but for the second loadout I'm trying daggers (the skill that lets you change equip without a turn seems very valuable for a ranged/melee hybrid) and I thought Axes might combine well with daggers for the other melee hand, since they both seem to benefit from bleeds and injuries... just had the rough draft in my mind, but tell me if you think it'll work out.
      Thanks for your time! :D

@@Jonjon13Jonjon13 The only problem will be a lack of skill points if you want to go deep into all 3 trees. You'll feel this early on if you only have 1-2 skills from each tree. You'll have to decide where to save points early on (bows honestly just need Take Aim). Maybe just the first axe skill for a gap closer and then mainly dagger skills. There's a lot of ways to make it work though.
I was actually going to try dagger/axe with the berserker so that the stats and skill points would be more efficient.

@@UrAverageGamer9000 is there a max level? or we're considering the lack of skill points because it takes so long to level up?
So far I took the Aim, and I'm planning on doubling it ASAP, and also got the swap for free on the daggers. Might skip axes talents until later, since I'm not planning on gapclosing, instead I wanna use the bow as much as possible. Only taking points in melee for when they get on top of me.

Hey NL, don't use shields, they're not that good in the beta since swords like the falchion have decent block chances (~3% less than your standard shield), but let you inflict more damage and kill enemies faster by dual-wielding (while also not decreasing your energy and such as the shields do). Dual-wielding is pretty much the way to go in the current state of the game, since the dual-wielding mastery tree, and I assume other dual-wielding related mechanics, haven't been added to the game yet and there is no downside stat-wise to just carrying around two swords.
