- Building trails with a mini excavator on our land and hauling logs out of the steep forest to make firewood. Takeuchi tb235 excavator. We have 5 acres and we barely use 4 of it since it's so steep and heavily treed and filled with brush. The excavator and a really good operator was able to go down really steep hills and access trees we weren't able to haul out otherwise. Great Success!

I have 60 acres of timber that's too overgrown to ride my ATV through. I thought I needed a backhoe but obviously I need a mini excavator. And now I think I"m addicted to watching mini-ex videos. Awesome job!

Not crazy, what I meant was that leaving the stumps taller vs cutting off low. Allows the machine more leverage to pull them out.

He picked the right machine for that job, the takeuchi is a beast. He's an excellent operator, I've seen people freak the hell out when they get on half of that angle.
Ya the hills we're really scary to us unskilled operators then Andy hopped on. Still took some convincing

Our friend John would love to have one of those for trail building. He does all his work by hand, but makes amazing trails just the same. You should see the bridge he built across a creek with steel supports and sturdy enough for quads. I thought of you yesterday. We had to change out the tarp for our rain water collector. The old one lasted about ten years. Not bad for constant sun, wind, rain and snow. - Margy

That’s uncle bob the super operator that his nephews never knew he had. He’s incredible. He’s got to put ear muffs on for full concentration and have his grandkids hold his beer. But damn are them boys sure empresses my god
I have been operating equipment since I was 14 and now for over 40 years not everyone could of came down that hill like that. that guy is a real good operator with some good safe work sense
Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad someone noticed his skills. It's very hard to tell how steep those hills are. But they are very sleep. No one ever wants to walk down there even though we have a trail now.
I agree. Im an experienced operator too. He's good. And very efficient. Hard to find on youtube. lol

Exactly how steep was it? or What was the grade?
Not sure but it was hard to walk up without grabbing trees to help.

I’m sure you have since discovered this but that trail will wash out in the first big rain if it goes straight down the hill. It would be a better design to go across grade with switchbacks. It takes more space and is more expensive to build but you will pay that and more in future maintenance. To make a good operator one needs to know more than how to run the machine, he also needs to know good grading design. I’m not trying to be a know it all or critical just I have learned from my brief experience in making trails with an excavator and making mistakes.
I have 10 acre's in MI that is nothing but hard wood up to 24" and and a lot of fire wood. I need to build a drive way, plot for house and put in a septic. Do you see any problem with using this style of excavator to do the job? My land is all sand and flat, mostly.

Man, that guy is moving! We've tried to clear brush like this by hand, the work in this video would have taken us a few days at least!

I've been watching these videos of excavators on steep land Because I have to dig on a steep incline for a powerline to be buried in the ground I'm trying to build confidence up because Excavators scare the crap out of me you can watch on my build channel I have that I just started That I am nervous lol great work keep it up

MukyMik My grandpa was a carpenter by trade and he told me that one of his co-workers used to bring his dog onto the jobsite. Well one day the dog got to chasing something and ended up getting ran over by a bulldozer. Definately agree with you about leaving animals at home.

I don't know much about running an excavator, but it looks to me like the got the right man for the job.
haha, we didn't either then our ace in the hole showed up Saturday morning and did amazing things in a short amount of time! I'd say he did 6 years worth of work in 6 hours. Those area were so steep no one would even walk down below the cabin, now we have a great trail to access more logs and ride quads on. Fun times, I smell a yearly rental in the future.
Kinda looks like wv but in kn now it's out west or up north we have a bunch of hills that I've pipelined on the last on was 69 % and you could get to the rocknledge before winching was needed
I personally love the woods but i don’t own any. One day ima buy some land, or help out with land hrhr.

On how steep a trail can this r build a trail? Could it do 300 down 150 feet long ? I guess thats a 2-1 grade.
Excellent work. I've been trying to figure out the best equipment to cut in some trails on my property as well. I have some slopes but the steepest I can avoid and the brush isn't as dense. Seeing this machine work, I'm confident I can get the job done and get to riding!!! Great video! Subbed.

Is it possible to rent a mini ex without any experience and cut trails like this? How many hours of a learning curve?
I rented it but had no clue or nerve to go down steep hills. This guy driving had years of experience and was our friend. Otherwise nothing would have gotten done. They roll so easy.
Nice work in making walking and ATV trails,...great country too . It sure helps to have a guy who knows how to make the excavator run well.

Seems to be OK so far 6 years in. Some water runs down but soil drains so well up here.

I shoot all mine with the gopro. Light weight and easy to use. The black is great at getting audio for voice also. 1080p superfine that bad boy. I can't wait to watch. Don't do anything I would do and be safe brother
