this band has the most nostalgic lyrics of all time.
Sine-sine is like cinema DIY where children used to watch as past times back then.
Sine-sine sa bata pa (shows in cinema when we were young)
Di na unta matapos pa ( hoping it wont end)
Saksihan ta ang pagdagan sa panahon (we'll witness the time pass by)
lantawon mga eksina na molabay (we'll watch every scene that passes by)
tanang taw makasabay (that every people can relate)
Saksihan ta ang pagdagan sa panahon (we'll witness the time pass by)

FYI, Bisaya has more spanish than tagalog. The first Spanish settlement in the Philippines is in Cebu, where the people speak bisaya.

Wasn't expecting this! My Bisaya heart is so happy! Thank you so much! 💙
The song is actually in pure Bisaya, it's just that Bisaya and Tagalog/Filipino share a lot of words. Panahon, oras, sine, ako, sila, siya, etc. The song is referring to kids "making" their own cinema at home, like hanging up a blanket then cutting up paper puppets and naming them Pedro and Sabel and using a candle to create shadows. Then basically putting on a play using the puppets, kinda like a cheap DIY way to make your own movie. It draws upon the nostalgia of enjoying your childhood with friends/siblings/cousins even when you didn't have a lot of money.
Re: Bisaya/Visaya. We usually say Visayas when referring to the island group. PH has 3 island groups: Luzon (the northernmost island group and where Metro Manila is located ), Visayas (middle island group), and Mindanao (southernmost island group). The islands of Cebu, Bohol, Negros, Panay, Leyte, and Samar are in Visayas.
Bisaya, on the other hand, refers to the Bisaya language spoken mainly in Visayas but also in surrounding areas like Masbate and a huge portion of Mindanao. The term Bisaya also refers to the people whose native tongue is Bisaya. You can be Bisaya even if you don't live or come from Visayas. Felip/Ken of SB19 is Bisaya but he grew up in Mindanao. You probably already know that his debut song Palayo was primarily in Bisaya. He also has a lot of Bisaya lyrics in his latest EP. "Mictest" and "Criminal" are the prime examples.
Sorry for the word vomit! Just really excited to share. Hope you'll explore more Bisaya songs and artists!

So as you know, the Philippines has three regions: Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. In Visayas and Mindanao, bisaya referd to the language people commonly speak, its like majority I believe (but there are also other language ofc). So when someone says s/he is a bisaya (also used to refer to bisaya-speaking people), the person maybe from anywhere of that two region. I think Visrock is just associated with Cebu mostly because it is the queen city of the south as we call it, so it's like our "Manila" in the Visayas region. So it's also where the Bisaya Music industry is making major progress. For Bisrock, I guess its peak is around late 1990s and early 2000s (?) and through the time, Vispop became more popular.

One of the greatest Visayan song ever written! If I may, it doesn't do justice if you don't understand what the lyrics is about. Sine (means movie/film). Sine-sine is play-movie!
Sinesine we have no other entertainment
    Sinesine wala ta'y laing lingaw
    Candle behind the blanket
    Kandila luyo sa habol
The body was paid a peso for the stolen goods
    Katawang binayran ug piso'ng kinawat
    In grandma's broken purse
    Sa gubaong pitaka'ng lola
    Shadow of the paper artists
    Anino sa mga artistang papel
    Pedro'g Sabel was named
    Gihinganlan tag si Pedro'g Sabel
They are the protagonists of our story
    Silang bida ning atong estorya
    In love without fulfillment
    Sa gugma nga way katumanan
    Cinema, cinema as a child
    Sine, sinesine sa bata pa
    It wouldn't be over yet
    Di na unta matapos pa
Even with the passage of time
Bisan pa man sa pagdagan sa panahon
Watch the scenes that pass by
    Lantawon mga eksena nga molabay
    Everyone can ride
    Tanang tawo makasakay
Let's witness the passage of time
Saksihan ta ang pagdagan sa panahon
    PERIOD
    Panahon
Just go ahead and do your dirty work
    Sige-sigeha lang imo'ng pagkalaw
    Fear has light
    Ayg kahadlok may kahayag
    Glow in the dark
    Modan-ag sa dalang mangitngit
Including the sky as a wide sun
Lakip na ang langit daw lapad nga adlaw
    Life is a twisted story
    Ang kinabuhi sugilanong hiwi
    Pleasure, pain, and pleasure
    Kalipay, kasakit, ug kalami
They are the stars of this movie
    Sila'ng bida niining salida
    In love without fulfillment
    Sa gugma nga way katumanan
    Cinema, cinema as a child
    Sine, sinesine sa bata pa
    It wouldn't be over yet
    Di na unta matapos pa
Even with the passage of time
Bisan pa man sa pagdagan sa panahon
Watch the scenes that pass by

Visayan regions are called to the places where they speak Visayan Languages like Cebuano, Waray, Hiligaynon and other Visayan languages. They are all Bisaya but they are not mutually intelligible with each other sometimes. But they are not dialects, that's a misconception.

Philippines is grouped into three island groups. Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Luzon is where manila is. Visayas is the middle. And Mindanao is in the south.
Bisaya on the other hand is a language. Some regions in Visayas and Mindanao use Bisaya language. They can also be used to call the people who speak the bisaya language

Bisaya can refer to a person that speaks Bisaya or is from the Visayan region in the Philippines. Bisaya can also refer to the group of languages spoken in the Visayan region. People from Cebu are Bisaya because Cebu is part of the Visayas. They can also refer to themselves as Cebuano, meaning a person from Cebu specifically. Cebuano is also the language originating from Cebu, and is considered one of the languages under the Bisaya umbrella.

Bisaya and Tagalog have overlapping words. Just like Tagalog, some Spanish words are also used in Bisaya.
BTW in Bisaya, repeating the words means demoting it's meaning to a toy or something sub par or childs play. Here sine-sine means a cinema but for kids, or the shadow puppets.

  • @Tagohala
    @Tagohala Рік тому +2

FYI. Tagalog this days mostly equates to a national language which is Filipino. Filipino language is a mixture of different vocabulary of words from different languages in the Philippines to create a unifying identity hence Tagalog/Filipino has many familiar words that are similarly used in the other regions in the Philippines. ✌️

Glad to see you react to Cebuano music!
The entire song is in pure Cebuano, it's just that Tagalog and Cebuano are close cousins (think, say, Spanish and Italian) so there are a lot of words in common. Cebuano is a bit more staccato and spoken with a stiff diction compared to Tagalog, and in general has a lot of U's where Tagalog has I's (bug-at vs bigat, etc)
Definitely do check out more Cebuano music in the future! We have quite the variety, and I'd say the studio version of this song is even better listening.
Missing Filemon's (pronounced like fih-leh-mon) collaboration album with Max Surban is a source of good music to react to as well :)

here's irony. I followed MF when it first came out through my niece. i was long gone from our town. First time I heard Sine-sine I knew its the best bisayan song ever written. Every line is poignant. I always knew it takes a while till folks realize how good they are. I came to Seattle in the early 80s and when Seattle sound came I never would have thought it grows that big. We always knew their songs are different, as in its the future of rock. Insoy is a great lyricist because he is also a good writer. His older brother was my best friend. He actually submitted some songs at the Manila Song Fest. Years later I have this hiatus of Bisrock when it lost momentum. Then years later my brother introduced me to Morissette. I've followed her daily for over 4 years now. i think the Bisaya thing is a great coincidence.

Always been a fan of your videos, sending love from Cebu! 💓

Fun Fact: Did you know that Morisette Amon is Bisaya? She’s from Minglanilla Cebu. And most of the famous singers here in the Philippines that you guys reacted to are Bisaya.
Pilita corales, KZ Tandingan and many more

Should I say, "The Father of Bisaya Rock". Back in the day, most band either sing tagalog or english rock song.

The use of V and B in Visaya/Bisaya is like the use of Ph and F in English and Spanish. V is used by non Bisaya people, English speakers and foreigners while B is used by native Cebuano speakers.

sine-sine is actually a "shadow paper show" a paper actor and actresses that was illuminated by the candle light behind the curtain.. hahaha sine-sine comes from the word cinema, when it double the words in bisaya it become a little or mini, like tarak2x (from the word truck) means little or toy truck,. haha so sine2x means little or mini cinema. hehehe i'm a bisaya by the way

3:21 it’s still in Cebuano bisaya. Tagalog and Cebuano share I think 20-30% of words but they’re still different languages. I’d roughly compare it to Portuguese vs Spanish. There are similarities but in large part, Tagalog and Cebuano are not mutually intelligible.
Thanks for reacting to Bisaya music!

your correct! sine sine translate to cinema cinema, some words in talalog the same in bisayan, and some words tagalog and bisayans, same in spanish specially things/object, like kutsara, tenidor, plato.

FYI…. Bisaya/Visaya has more spanish words than Tagalog. Cebu is the first and oldest city in the Philippines. It is where the Spanish Conquistadors first set foot on. And also, bisaya speakers are not only from Cebu, but also most parts of the Visayas and Mindanao regions.

Cebu is one of the main island in the Visayan region. Each island has it's own dialect. Bisaya is dialect, however, it's island has a name for their own bisaya.

Bisaya is LANGUAGE or PEOPLE who speak the language itself, hence we can call it dialect if it's Cebu- bisaya, Davao-bisaya, bohol-bisaya or Leyte-bisaya and etc.

For foreigners wanted to learn Filipino languages, tagalog is much harder to learn than visayan languages. Its just that tagalog is the national language of the Philippines because it was declared by the second Filipino president who was also a tagalog.

This is one of those times when me, a pure blooded Filipino cannot understand the words, except for the common words used in Tagalog and some Spanish loan words. Other than that, no idea. Hahahahahaha. I'm Bicolana raised in Metro Manila btw. 😅😂😂😂
