How high of truss or stands would you put the lights behind so they wouldn't get blocked by the band? And are the LED strip lights fine on the ground or would they be better higher? I think overall it looks pretty great. We are mostly looking to add some lighting effects to shows in theater venues that have some lighting already like washes, etc... but moving lights with some programming would add some better production value. Maybe some beam lights on top and some wash movers below them? Or would you mount them side by side on top of the truss? And, again... just wondering how high to mount them to make a difference but also be easy to set up from venue to venue. Thanks

It depends on the needs. These can change color, but 38's are a little cheaper and a better-looking white light. Each is better for different situations. :)

I just purchased 6 Totem trusses that can be set at 8 or 10 ft depending on the Venue. We are a 9 piece band and most of us in the near &0 years old range and I dont wwant people climbing anymore. I am having a really hard tme convincing the guyin the band who used to have all the lights that we can still do a good job with lighting even without a back or front bar. Am I way off base. We will have 6 totems 8 movers one on each totem and 2 on the ground, 30 par spots on the totems at the appropriate places on the totem and of course use a haser. What do you suggest?
I'm planning on using this lighting setup for a gig in the near future, but I'm wondering how you would recommend adapting the setup to cover a 5-man band. How, for example, should I light up the drummer when he's sitting dead centre between two trusses? I could point 2 of those standard PARs at the drummer, but that might compromise some of the lighting on the members at the front. Should I just ad another PAR? All help is appreciated; love your vids man. Thanks
Yes, probably just add another par. Some bands even just grab an LED par and put it on the floor to uplight the drums and drummer - that is a cool look too!
Exactly - as far out on the front of the stage as possible. I only use upright trusses in my visualizations because that's what's in the software :) There are also lighting stands that look a lot like speaker stands, but can go higher and often can hold more weight. (like amzn.to/2rnnio3 )

Jake Cooley just run a dmx cord, wouldn't trust anything else. Get some longer one's if need and cover it too so no one trips on it and pulls it loose.
Any suggestions for Front lighting LED DMX fixtures for a small venue band (to set up on a stand about 35-40ft in front because there’s no house lights or truss at all) and still get decent coverage for a 4-5 piece band with a stage that’s maybe 20-25ft wide? Chauvet PAR 64s maybe? Maybe smaller?
Hmnm...that is a really far distance. Most of these pars are designed to be up at the corners of the stage, and wash from a fairly short distance. With that said, I have used similar units (Martin RUSH Par 1's) from about 50' away on a truss upright, and it worked well for a bar band type setup, so it'll probably work. Definitely don't go smaller - at that distance, the laws of physics (inverse square law) really works against brightness!
How is this considered oighting on a budget? This uses over a dozen fixtures and trellis along with the controller to program them. Youre insane if you think this is on a budget.
JackstandJohnny It all depends on your budget. Is this entry-level? No. But it is a budget alternative for bands that have some basic lighting and are looking to kick it up a notch for a much bigger look!
JackstandJohnny this is definitely on a budget, you could easily build this rig for about £1000/$1500 if you look in the right places, going with pulse or stairville for your led par cans and led battens (strip lights) and either stairville or prolight for your moving heads will keep your costs low, and whilst there is free lighting software out there if you are really in a pinch, you can get a dmx dongle for avolites titan which is arguably one of the best lighting control software on the market for about £200/$300, the only major cost in this is the truss but you can substitute that for scaffold bars just as easily. You may think that £1000/$1500 isn't budget but it definitely is, lighting just isnt cheap, and seeing as how a single lighting fixture can cost several thousands in larger rigs I dont think you can really complain about over a dozen lights for just over a grand. Im not sure what you were expecting really?

It's literally half the brightness, so that is the major tradeoff. Other than that, there are pretty similar.

This is quite a big lighting rig, Even with a less complicated setup, great programming and running of the lighting can make it look great!
