Nice work Matt! Would be great to continue this DMX series with more training videos... programming the Gig Bars, etc., moving heads, software options, setting up shows, how to do multiple Universes, etc. Let's keep Matt busy!
Exellent video! I really enjoyed the explanation of the mailman and the people in the house. I am doing a pretty advanced system with 6 lights and a Yorkville Orion controller. Your video is the perfect basic information. I was able to get my Orcan4 PAR up and running in 20 minutes on the rack and even programmed my first strobe scene. Thank you so much, Matt!!
Lighting has undergone a huge upgrade from years past. This DMX stuff is making it almost idiot proof. Lighting is not given enough credit for its impact on live shows, music videos, UA-cam streaming or just a general video like this one, a product presentation.
My backyard will never be the same.Appreciate the simplified demo.Bongloads of info here, now I won't be such a lost geek when talking lighting up back yard for DMT vape sessions or a dab rig scenario during mini rave w headphones and gerbils...ha ha ha
The obey 10 has 16 channels per fixture and they're split between A & B. If you wanted to align these lights you would start them all at the beginning of the corresponding channels starting #.Channel 1 begins with 1,2 is 17,3 is33 4 is 49 and so on. Therefore the first one on1 and the second on 17 lines their channels up and they would both be controlled with 1 to 6.

Thank you so much! I was breaking my brain so much about how the connection of the lights would be.. with most of the ‘cheaper’ controllers having just 1 (or maybe 2) DMX outputs.. Thinking in a audio kinda perspective I did not understand how that would be possible if you would have multiple lights and different type of lights So daisy chain it is! (I should have known because it’s digital.. but now I’m shure! 😊) Lots of thanks!
Very new to this... 10 mins new to be exact. Question: If I want to have all the lights doing the same thing, do I program them all to just one Chanel?
You can either program them all to the same channel or send identical data on all channels (in case you might want to make them do something different eventually)
Set at channel one, with a 6-address footprint. I think he meant to say that the fixture ended at address six, so therefore the next fixture had to be patched at the next available address in the universe.
All of this digital control may become erratic if you do not TERMINATE the cable at the last fixture in the chain. Microphone cable distorts the data signals but unterminated lines are a disaster by reducing reliability caused by reflections of the signal within the cable.
Thanks for the question, anonony9081! That is correct! If you want all your Pars to be the same color, to fade at the same time, etc, you can absolutely assign them to the same DMX channel. I do this with my set-up to save me time! I'd love to chat DMX if you need more help, just give me a shout! Would you make a tutorial how to use dmx with DAW? Like an intensive programming

first video I think I actually learned something about DMX, thanks a lot!
I love when my tutorials are narrated by the voice of Tom Hanks.

Great Video!
Super informative while staying easily understandable!
Thumbs up 👍
Thanks for the kind feedback, Erik! 💙

Thanks this is so useful

Yes you would set them to all be on the same dmx address

06:26. Channel 6? You mean channel 1 right?
Set at channel one, with a 6-address footprint. I think he meant to say that the fixture ended at address six, so therefore the next fixture had to be patched at the next available address in the universe.
Thank you!
wow it is so great
Clear and helpful... thanks.
Very nice

I've never had that problem and now I use mostly wireless DMX Transmitters & Receivers.
do I need my lights plugged into AC voltage when using DMX cables ( my lights are easing dancing )
i have 19x 15w stage light ,can you help us review ,thanks
So if we have a bunch of identical fixtures and we want them all to have identical signals going to them can we just set them all to the same channel?

Thought he was gonna show a demo at the end. Just lost a sale
So if the next fixture starts at 7, why is the first one at channel 6 rather than channel 1?
He meant to say it was channels 1 up to 6
Knock knock, open up the door, it's real!
Sir please I need your help 🙏🙏
When a turn on my DMX, my speakers make noise. How can I fix that?
Thank you for your video
Given no setup, id say you`ve got ground loop somewhere, maybe this is an issue
Conecte separadamente líneas de corriente, una para el sonido, otra para las luces.

Help, my DMX cables keeps barking at me

do I need my lights plugged into AC voltage when using DMX cables ( my lights are easing dancing )
the DMX is just a control signal, the light also needs electricity to work
