Don’t ever think you can’t have two mids or two highs going at the same time. If the tracks are in the same key they should sound relatively good playing on top of each other. What matters is where you bring in the song and questioning yourself as to why you start a song in a certain spot
"I hope that was a good demonstration" Yes! It really was! Thank you! I actually understand how they can move from one song into the next one those super-long tracks you play in road trips. I've wondered how they do it for so long!
To keep it simple as a beginner DJ, leave all the other knobs alone except for the low freq. knob. Turn that knob down for the song you're bringing in so that the transition sounds clean and not cluttered with too much low end. Then, turn it back up on your drop or the end of your transition. The other knobs are used by DJs to adjust the sound making it look like they're busy on the stage.
1:11 that duke dumont song..... I Got U..... i recall my bros playing when i had my holiday time..... daammmnn wish i could go back..... we had a lot of fun partying with friends back then....
Thanks man. This is one of the better tutorials I've found. Great job. Please do more vids covering intermediate dj techniques in this format. There are hardly any other channels doing this in this format. Constructive criticism; please don't bob your head to the beat. It makes me slightly queasy. Keep up the great work! I'll def check out your website!
Hey. Thanks for the feedback. I am sorry about the bobbing. It’s always hard not to get into the music when Djing! Will keep it in mind for future vids tho!
There are a lot of great instructors out there, but Phil is hands-down fantastic. I have his beginner and intermediate DJ lessons, and I have another one of his tutorials. Highly recommended, just do it.❤
Trim (Gain) Knobs should ALWAYS be included in this category of instruction. "Don't worry about trim"... WHAT?!?!? "Forget the one thing that matters when your songs are in different bitrates". Trim and volume and EQ should be included together. Gain is VITAL to blending and mixing.
I am not a musical expert, but in Serato it has an autogain feature that will allow all analyzed songs to be set to fixed level of noise. So basically Serato users can just set the both trim knobs on equal levels, and allow mixing without worrying if the loudness of the incoming track is not equal to the outgoing track.
@@nicholasm8946 you need to know how the trim knobs work and how to use to them , you can't call yourself a true dj if you have to rely on a software to do all the work for you.
EXACTLY the blending video I was looking for! Never dj'd before and just bought a ddj flx4! Ive been in bands, and have made my own electronica in REASON, so I am familiar with song keys, structure, and beat matching... but BLENDING is what Im after as a dj noob and this vid opened my eyes! THANK YOU! subscribed.
Yeah thats a good way to mix....bring the beat in at the right count makes it perfect everytime.....mixing music with words is mixed slightly different
Thanks for the lesson mate. no right to call myself a DJ so will call myself a bedroom mixer. lowkey equipment but with the right techniques i learn, i might just get better and have more fun. Good show.
This is a good example of how to do the mixing, but the two tracks didn’t really blend together well. It sound like the actually aren’t in the same key. Also, it might be better if you played your own tracks so you don’t need to talk over them.
What about when djs turn the knobs in between mixing songs? I’m driving myself crazy trying to figure out what they’re doing. Are they just doing it to look busy?

Phil Harris this was the best Dj tutorial I’ve ever watched! Thank you so much!
Are you related to Calvin Harris?
Phil Harris hi I am planning on becoming an Sound and mix Engineering
"I don't know what key this is, probably G or something like that"? What makes you assume this is in the key of G? I am just curious.
But really can someone tell me the name of these songs?
Great demonstration!!! Super helpful for someone who doesn't know a single thing about DJing
My god finally someone actually teaches what those wonder knobs do and how to mix tracks thx a lot for the upload dude

WHAT DJ‘s ACTUALLY DO
Marshmello in the thumbnail
JxnaZ but its a great tutorial for the beginners
(Edited) got little click baiting
JxnaZ exactly
problem?
Fahrezi Farel yes because he sucks at djing and his sets are always prerecorded
Need Sasha or digweed in the thumbnail

Awesome video. Are you recording the audio for this video direct out of the mixer or from your speakers?
from the speaker. no noise comes out from the controller. the noise is transferred from the controller to speakers u need speakers for djing
@@angeldeleon9615 no, you can definitely route audio back to the computer.
I guess it is kinda off topic but do anyone know a good place to watch newly released tv shows online ?
@Nolan Coen I use FlixZone. Just search on google for it =)
