Hey Nate as a firefighter the last centre punch is a common tool we use. I addition please be careful of glass dust. You guys should all be wearing a minimum p2 mask to ensure dust is not inhaled causing silicosis. Basically a small glass shard moving around your lung slicing it up.
Just breaking a half dozen windows they'll be fine. I polish glass with a belt sander every day, the glass that gets around my mask is 1000x worse then what they are being exposed to.
Silicosis is only a problem with really fine dust over a long period of time or massive exposure and it is not slicing up your lung.

Is there any other tool that a firefighter might use for emergencies that we may not think of, but should maybe keep around?
@@samstickler8823 plenty of tools. If talking glass we use shaving cream on either side of the window when cutting it with a glass saw to catch the majority of particles. Glass hammers also work for tempered glass. Use the all mighty duct tape on the window to hold the shards together for a cleaner removal. Or wind the window down leaving a small part exposed and tape over the seal then pop the glass. Broken glass is then caught in the door.
I love how kicking the windshield with full force is still a struggle to break the windshield.
Yet when i accidently threw an icecube on my windshield it left a hugr crack

I didn't read all the comments but you did miss an option that not a lot of people know about head rest's are made to come all the way out and have a pointed end to help break glass

Its why they put pop rivets in the rear headrests for a lot of cop cars, for this exact reason

More modern vehicles and higher end luxury vehicles are now coming standard with laminate glass on all windows.
It's safer in roll overs and they do help absorb some side impact energy while keeping their integrity.

@@brettjohnson8009 Laminated glass has only been used in the front windshield only. Now they are starting to put laminated glass on ALL windows, making it VERY difficult to escape from a vehicle

I work with autoglass, and can tell you that if you had kicked the windshield in the top center to avoid the steering wheel, it would have been better. also, the top rear corner of that passenger window that nate used the seat belt buckle on is probably going to be the weakest point. ive broken my fair share of glass simply by tapping it in the wrong place while loading it onto the delivery vehicles.
She was trying really hard to fail. Sometimes it does seem like women have no spatial intelligence.

If you're stuck inside of a car and have NOTHING to break the windows with, but need to.
Pull off the seats headrest and use the metal bars of the headrest as a hammer and handle works best.

The best way to break which is readily available is the head rest of the driver's or the passenger seat which can easily be removed in modern cars.

The "hole punch" is used by many 1st responders, Firefighters, Paramedics to clear windows to get to patients from car accidents. I've used it 100's of times with 100 % glass breakage.

Nate, what about the fire fighters tactic or the common glass breaking pocket knives? I own a pocket knife with a tungsten tip on it designed for emergency glass breaking, and the firefighters tactic is smacking a corner of the glass car windows (not windscreens) with your elbow.
From what I seen, police use Flashlights, Glass Breakers, and Batons. Firefighters/EMS on the other hand, I have no idea. I'd imagine they would use a glass breaker of some sort

An older vehicle's windshield with a rubber gasket can easily be kicked out. The glued in ones are very hard to kick out, as seen here

In the extremely rare occasion that the windshield is the only means of escape, it's probably already cracked making removal easier.
Kicking it is actually not very efficient. If you apply constant pressure to one of the corners you can get a similar result. Windshields are "fairly" fragile. I use to work at a body shop and when I had to throw away windshields to get them to fit in the dumpster all I had to do was stand on it and it would break and fold.
you know what is the thing about having all passwords on the same site? That if someone gets acces to that place you loose it all.
I can't imagine what would happen if someone did that.

Lastpass/dashlane are both almost 100% unbreachable. The passwords are stored offline, so even if someone got into your account they wouldn't have access

Another thing you could have tried is using the metal prongs from the seat headrest. One of them is intentionally more pointed than the other to help break windows.
For any side or rear windows, always keep a spark plug somewhere inside with a hammer or something where you can break it. Ceramic porcelain from those can pinpoint it and shatter it instantly
Need the broken (shattered) ceramic from a spark plug, so prepare that, not the full plug.
Almost every firefighter in the US has a center punch in his pocket of his gear.
