Saw this just today and that is exactly right about networking. Not only does it help you while you're in your job, but it also can help you find another (better?) Dream Job, because you'll know more people. And more importantly, more people will know you. Great job!
You job search “coaches” are all alike in one factor: You assume people are capable of trusting others in sight. For people like me who have been traumatized, this isn’t the case. I refused to network and once even intentionally blew up an informational interview an extended family member tried to arrange because I was not specifically given the impression that I would be welcomed with open arms and not shot dead on sight instead. For people like me body armor is an absolute must to go to any networking event and you never cover this. I now work retail because it’s literally all I can handle.
